Abigail begin to pace in her room with confusion written on her face. She had been calling Mr Awuku severally but he refused to answer his phone. She knew she wasn't supposed to report to work till the following Monday, so understanding why she had been called to report suddenly became difficult. Not sure what to do, she picked up a dress and decided on going to the workplace to find out what was happening.
When she was almost at the door, she heard her phone beeping and she worked back to pick the phone she almost forgot. Checking she realized Gasper had sent her the address and time they were supposed to meet. Unfortunately, it was the same day she was supposed to report to work which was tomorrow. *Sorry but I can't make it.* she texted him without explaining further.
*What about the weekend?* She sigh, seeing that Gasper texted back, but she didn't have time to reply. She runs out of the house in a hurry to get to the workplace.
"Oh it's good that you are here, I was expecting you tomorrow but come and see this." Mr awuku said as he handed a file to Abigail as soon as she got to the station.
Abigail accepted the file, ignoring the eyes that ware scrutinizing her. She sat on the nearest chair and begin to read the file in her hand. " What! that is not true, this can't be possible." She exclaimed midway into reading the file
" I know right. That is why I wanted you to come this early so we can plan on what to do next, but guess who is the complaint." He asked and Abigail gave him a knowing look.
"it was the daughter of his father's best friend, and the bad thing is she provided evidence." Mr Awuku confirmed her doubts.
"Don't tell me you believe this because it's not true." Abigail sounded so worried but there was nothing she could do about the situation. She placed the file on the counter and storm out of the police station rushing back to her house.
"Don't you think she is going to call that boyfriend of hers?" Vicky the friend of Gina who has been working on the same case asked Mr Awuku, not understanding why he had to tell Abigail about the case, after all, she was still on leave.
"That's exactly why I called her. I want to know how that prison guy get himself out of this. I also want to know who Abigail would choose between her work and her boyfriend." He walked out of the station after speaking, only to spot Abigail running on the street in a hurry.
Upon reaching home, Abigail began to call Gideon on his mobile, but he wasn't answering. In less than ten minutes, she had already called more than a dozen times. Fear grief her and her heart began to beat harder and faster, as if it could jump out of her ripcage.
For more than an hour, all she did was call him non stop but not even a single call did Gideon answer. She wished she could storm into Enoch's house and drag Gideon out by the ear, but even that wasn't possible. It will expose her plan and if care is not taking she can be arrested.
"Answer the phone God derm it." She screamed and almost smashed the phone but a thought came to her mind. "What if she calls Enoch directly. No no no he wouldn't answer." she stood and began calling Gideons line again while pacing in the room, but he still wouldn't answer.
" How can someone miss over 100 calls and still wouldn't attend to the caller. Am sure that stubborn boss of his is the one stopping him from answering the calls." She said and sat down on her couch exactly where she had meet Enoch sitting the last time he was in her room.
She relaxed and let her palm feel the fluffy texture of the couch, then something fell off the couch to the ground. She picked it up to check and it was no doubt a business card that belongs to Enoch. Aside from his own personal information the card also contained his receptionist number.
She didn't hesitate for even a second before dialing the number. "Hello please can I speak to Gideon, Mr Damtis's assistant?" Abigail said into the phone immediately she heard a voice from the other end.
"Please wait I'll put you through to his personal phone." The receptionist said politely
"No please, his line is so busy he's not answering, tell him it a matter of life and death and he needs to come out and answer the phone." Abigail was beginning to sound like a nagging wife, and all that the receptionist could do was rush into Enoch's office to call Gideon.
....
How can you do this to me sir, you seized my phone and put it in your drawer, what if an important call comes true? It's been more than an hour and am sure she has stop calling by now. Please can I have my phone back." Gideon was beginning to get upset about the situation, his phone has been ringing non stop but Enoch wouldn't let him answer the call, he even placed it in the drawer giving him no chance to speak to the caller.
" If she is not calling me, I'm not giving you your phone. Why can't she speak to me but can call you? Enoch's voice was lace with jealousy, but he knew there was no reason for him to be jealous.
" Come in." Enoch said upon hearing a knock on the door
" Sir please someone called you on the main line, she said its a matter of urgency, no life and death. Please you have to come and speak to the caller." Juan said immediately she entered, forgetting to great.
Enoch stood up from his desk with his usual expressionless face, in a hurry to attend to the caller. " Sir please, its not you. It Mr Gideon." He heard Juan saying again.
Gideon gave Enoch a deathly look before storming our of the office. Enoch sat back in his chair not sure what to think. "It can't be her, she doesn't know the main line." He said to convince himself it wasn't Abigail that was on the office phone.
"Hello who is this?" Gideon asked as calmly as he could be.
"Tell that ungrateful boss of yours that, his lovely wife to be has filled a complaint against him for smuggling drugs and ammunition. The police would be coming to arrest him by tomorrow. I have been invited to the Head quarters to assist in the investigation because, I was mentioned as a suspect." She said and just ended the call.
Gideon dropped the phone and run back to Enoch's office, only to find him pacing and massaging his forehead worriedly. " I guess you heard that. " Gideon asked, guessing from the look on Enoch's face. He had forwarded the call to his office just to listen and to be sure the caller wasn't Abigail, but it was her indeed.
" I swear I'm going to kill that girl someday. she doesn't know when to stop, and now she involves my love ones." He said angry, kicked the chair and storms out with Gideon running after him with his safe bag.
Enoch pick up his phone about to call Abigail to know more about the situation, after making himself comfortable in the car, but on second thought, he stopped and thought of what to do, knowing she would not answer his call and she couldn't speak to him either.
"Give me your phone." He said to Gideon with an outstretched arm.
"You left it in the office. Have you forgotten you took it away from me?" Gideon asked, looking at Enoch from the driving mirror.
Enoch started getting down from the car but when Gideon saw him getting down he knew Enoch was going to hit him so he got out fast and run back to the office before Enoch could get to him.
" Here you are, and stop hurting people whenever you get angry, it's not good for your health." Gideon sounded like a father cautioning his son, but his words fell on deaf ears.
Enoch almost hit him after taking the phone from him, if not for the fact that he was already prepared for that. "And she's also testing my patience." Enoch said bitterly, after calling Abigail for several times and she didn't answer even a single call.
"Take me to the port." He instructed Gideon and in no time, the car was already on the main street, heading towards the city's biggest port, where most of the thing imported from and to the country takes place. And that was were the Damtis family ships their goods like the palm oil and the materials for processing.
