A Hunter Is Leaving

War defines existence in the Great Tree village of Zune. Casualties are common, as battles occur almost daily against the rival village of Fon. The presence of monsters throughout the land leaves little room for civilization. The conflict between these two villages has persisted for centuries. Every boy is raised for the purpose of warfare. At the age of eight, each is taken from their Nurturer, remains unnamed, and undergoes training until the age of thirteen. Upon completion, they participate in the “The Naming” Ceremony, during which they receive names and titles as they are formally inducted into the army. The title of Hunter is given to the most loyal and talented men in the village. They work in small groups, spending most of the time outside of the village and camps. They specialize in recon, tracking, trapping, and killing monsters. At least that’s what The Officials will say. This world called Noon has so much to offer if it weren’t for the other village. War propaganda is spread across the village. Everyone must do their part to keep their way of life safe. But is this the right way? Classism, sexism, deceit, and corruption are all justified by The Officials as necessary for the village’s survival.
