"You what?! Hold on, I don't get it. You were the one behind the Mythos Entertainment, and you also made the capsule and the game... wow, that's amazing. And then, you are saying that the game somehow affected my body in reality? Like some sort of magical stuff?" Ruri asked, her pupils swirling in confusion. It was hard for her to put things together, especially when she knew nothing about it. So she recalled his every words and begins from there, repeatedly replaying in her mind until some of it finally registered through her brain.
"Yes, I made the game specifically for such occasions. Anyone who played my game will eventually realize that they appears more energetic and healthy despite never exercise much in their life. But of course there are requirements for these, such as unlocking special quest from the easter eggs I planted in the virtual world, and others I'd like to keep it a secret for now." Kousuke revealed one of his plans when creating Infinite Crisis and the capsule. He never plan to be a hero even on Earth, he had discarded that tiring job the moment he returns home. But as a retired hero, he needs to do something if he truly wanted to retire for good.
Infinite Crisis were the final conclusion he reached. If people could defend themselves, then there are no need for him to intervene at all. His idea is basically empowering humanity as a whole so that they can break free from fate and write their own destiny by carving a path for themselves. At the end of the day, he couldn't be everywhere around the planet to save people from their misery. He is still human, and humans makes mistake so that they can learn to be better.
Of course he also knew that some people might use their power for bad things. It's just build in human nature to sin, that's why he made Belfast oversees their actions in the virtual world first before allowing the easter egg to bloom. People can also change, which was why he prepared a countermeasure as well. If such a case ever appear, he can essentially sealed their power again. After all, it was thanks to his Sacred Gear and Valerie's that they can unleash their dormant potential to begin with. If he can gives, he can also take it away. Nothing in this world comes free.
"What?! This is the first time I heard about this!" Rias said out loud. She turned to her Queen expecting the latter to appear surprise as well, but Akeno looks away. Clearly the latter had known this for a while, but kept it from her. "So you knew..."
"Sorry Rias, I promised him that I'll keep it a secret until he reveals it himself." She replied with a wry smile. She knew he had been busy with something for a while, yet Kousuke always had the time to spend with his girlfriends. When Akeno finally asked, he didn't even try to hide and even went as far as to show the data in front of her, explaining the whole idea while cosplaying as the God-Emperor ofMankind. It was rather comical seeing him wearing a huge golden armor, but she didn't say anything since he seemed to be well invested in the roleplay at the time.
"I still don't get it... How does a game can makes horns appearing on my head in reality? Even for magic, that didn't sounds logically at all." Ruri muttered with perplexed expression on her face. She did ran into a strange quest in the game earlier this week. She was just fishing on a lake while waiting for her friend to finish her tutorial, but something bit her bait and upon reeling it in—it wasn't a fish that she caught. It was a dragon's scale. It then forced her to the town's library, making her learn the history of dragons, and why they rarely appeared in the virtual world anymore.
"That's because what the game affected wasn't your body in reality, but the soul that entered the game. That's how the game were able to tell what race to recommend so that your gameplay won't be more difficult than it should be. An example of this would be a human trying to play as Cyclops, but they were used to having two visions throughout their life so having a single pupil threw them off as you would expected." Kousuke elaborated, but then, he shrugs his shoulders and continues. "Though there are still players who wouldn't listen to the system advice and willingly walk through the hard path for the sole reason of uniqueness."
"Ah, I have ran into a couple of nonhuman players before." Ruri muttered, recalling a few times she almost mistaken players as monsters in the wild. "But what do you mean by my soul? I thought the capsule only read my brain's signal which becomes the key to entering the virtual world, at least that's what I remembers from reading the manual."
"That's just a front to fool the average people into falling to some semblance of security, and fortunately it works just as I thought," he said nonchalantly, as if his words didn't came off like some third-rate villain. But it gets worse the further he goes. "Of course I also add some lines in the long terms of service, specifically informing the player that by clicking agree, they, essentially, willingly offer their souls to be modify by the game. Thus, I am protected from liability for the foreseeable prosecutions."
"You are absolutely evil! Mad scientist kind of evil!" Issei said with a gasp. his finger pointed accusingly at his friend. Instead of showing any remorse or even slight semblance of guilt for fooling innocent people, Kousuke grinned menacingly before standing up in an exaggerated manner.
"Indeed! I am Mad Scientist! It's so cool! sonavubitch!"
"I wasn't referencing to Steins Gate!" Issei rebuked almost immediately as he recognized the familiar English line spoken by Kousuke. But the latter simply sat back and casually wrapped his arm around Akeno before turning his attention back to Ruri.
"If you're scared that things might go wrong, I can just reverse everything back as if nothing ever happens. Then you'll go back to being ordinary girl enjoying her school life just like everybody, that's not bad is it?" Knowing he might came off as rather forceful, Kousuke decides to offer her a way out. It was just like that one time he threw the same deal to Issei, but the latter were already deep into the mess, so he refused. But unlike him, Ruri were still rather new to the whole supernatural. She hadn't even dipped her toes yet, but once she did, it would leave a huge ripple that would attracted a lot of people towards her.
Ruri pondered for a while, so Kousuke keeps his silent, not rushing her to make the decision immediately. This could be a life altering event for her after all. However, it didn't take long before she put a determined expression on her face, and speak out her honest thought.
