Chapter 329: The Dragon Race Targeted by Qi Han
Although the Ingredient Acquisition quest and the Intermediate Promotion Quest were particularly exciting, Qi Han held back his excitement and first claimed the remaining rewards from Main Quest 7.
Two Random 3 Star Dish Recipes and four 3 Star Star Optional Recipe Fragments.
Qi Han didn't immediately draw the random 3 Star recipes. Instead, his gaze fell on the four Optional Recipe Fragments.
When he first obtained a 3 Star Star Optional Recipe Fragment, Qi Han hadn't paid much attention to it.
After all, it required a full nine Fragments to exchange for an Optional 3 Star recipe, which was significantly harder to gather than the 2 Star ones.
But now… receiving four Fragments at once made him feel that completing the set of nine wasn't so far off anymore.
How many Fragments did he have now?
Qi Han checked and found he already had seven Fragments.
Aside from the four he had just received, the other three were obtained from Quests in Star Luo City.
Only two more Fragments were needed to make an exchange, which filled Qi Han with anticipation.
It felt like he was getting close.
Suppressing the rising excitement, Qi Han turned his attention to the two Random 3 Star Dish Recipes.
Hmm… better wash my hands first.
After hastily washing up, Qi Han began the joyful lottery draw.
Soon, under the nervous gazes of both Ru Yi and Qi Han in the system space, the results of the two draws appeared.
3 Star recipe: Jiangnan Hundred-Flower Chicken.
3 Star recipe: Yanjing Roast Duck.
To draw one chicken and one duck at once was something even Qi Han hadn't expected.
If Jiangnan Hundred-Flower Chicken, a somewhat niche Cantonese dish, was relatively obscure, then Yanjing Roast Duck was undeniably famous.
And speaking of it, Qi Han realized it had been a long time since he last had Yanjing Roast Duck, which made him especially look forward to this dish.
Now, his recipe collection is beginning to grow once again.
The current recipe he was working on—Dinghu Shangsu—was also not far from completion. Once he finished the intermediate promotion and Ingredient Acquisition Quests, it would likely only take a day or two to wrap it up.
Besides that, Qi Han still had two 2 Star recipes: Mapo Tofu and Fried Pork in Scoop, as well as three 3 Star recipes: Jiangnan Hundred-Flower Chicken, Yanjing Roast Duck, and Jixi Yipin Pot. Of course, there was also a 4 Star recipe he couldn't unlock yet: Peony Fish Fillet.
Along with the upcoming Furong Chicken Slices from the Ingredient Acquisition Quest and what was bound to be a generous reward from the Intermediate Promotion Quest, Qi Han would have no shortage of new recipes in the coming days.
With Main Quest 7 completed and all its rewards claimed, Main Quest 8 had yet to appear. But this wasn't the first time something like this had happened. Qi Han thought for a moment and asked, "Ru Yi, will Main Quest 8 only appear after I complete the intermediate promotion?"
"Yes."
Just as he expected.
Qi Han nodded in understanding, then turned his gaze to the two new Quests on the quest panel.
He had only skimmed them earlier, but now he began to read the detailed descriptions carefully. As he did, a look of surprise gradually appeared on his face.
The Extreme North Snowfield?
A Thousand-Year Snowfield Ice Pheasant?
The last time he went to the Hellfire Corridor for an Ingredient Acquisition Quest, Qi Han had wondered if he would ever get a Quest to the Extreme North Snowfield.
After all, the Extreme North Snowfield, like the Hellfire Corridor, was a special spirit beast gathering area—one blazing hot, the other bitterly cold—making it hard not to draw comparisons between the two.
To his surprise, this time the Quest really was set in the Extreme North Snowfield.
And the target of the Quest was a powerful spirit beast like the Snowfield Ice Pheasant.
Although the Extreme North Snowfield is similar to the Hellfire Corridor, the two aren't truly comparable, as the spirit beasts of the Extreme North Snowfield are far more powerful.
Legend has it that in the Extreme Northern region dwells the terrifying Three Arctic King, each with cultivation exceeding 200,000 years. In addition, many other 100,000-year-old spirit beasts inhabit the area.
Because of this, the spirit beasts of the snowfield are categorized into distinct classes and tiers.
The first tier consists of species under the rule of the Three Arctic Kings. The second tier includes species with a 100,000-year-old spirit beast leader within their kind. The third tier consists of species that once produced a 100,000-year-old spirit beast but no longer have any. As for the fourth and fifth tiers, spirit beasts in those groups rarely exceed ten thousand years in cultivation.
The Snowfield Ice Pheasant belongs to the third tier. It once produced a 100,000-year-old beast, proving that the species itself has considerable potential and an impressive upper limit.
While there are no longer any 100,000-year-old Snowfield Ice Pheasants, there are still many that have reached ten thousand years.
Fortunately, this species does not live in flocks. Each beast claims its own territory and avoids intrusion by others. Otherwise, Qi Han would stand little chance of completing the Quest.
Though it's also an Ingredient Acquisition Quest, this one is significantly harder than the previous Quest involving the Hellfire Dragonfish.
The Ice Pheasant is a formidable opponent—not something that can be easily taken down.
While "pheasant" typically refers to a wild chicken, the Snowfield Ice Pheasant behaves more like an eagle in its hunting habits.
These spirit beasts can soar freely at altitudes of over a thousand meters, using their terrifying vision to detect the slightest movement across the snowfields. Then, they dive from above, striking prey with deadly talons in a single blow.
Although it can't match eagle-type spirit beasts in terms of flight altitude, the Extreme North Snowfield is blanketed in snow year-round. Most creatures here have evolved to be entirely white to blend in with the environment.
Under these conditions, the Ice Pheasant's ability to spot prey against a white background speaks to just how incredible its eyesight is.
Looks like this time, a lot of preparation will be necessary.
Qi Han mentally began planning and turned his gaze toward the Intermediate Promotion Quest.
To his surprise, the Intermediate Promotion Quest was set in the Star Dou Forest.
Compared to the last promotion Quest, which took place in the Kalei Forest, the two locations are on completely different levels.
Qi Han had no idea what criteria the system used to select these Quest locations.
Remaining in the Star Dou Forest for an extended time—searching for ingredients and practicing cooking—even with the training space eliminating the need to camp overnight in the forest, still came with substantial risk.
That said, completing the promotion Quest in the Star Dou Forest came with both drawbacks and advantages.
As the largest spirit beast gathering area on the continent, almost every type of terrestrial spirit beast could be found here, except for those with very specific environmental needs. According to the Douluo Continent Ingredient Encyclopedia, nearly 40% of the ingredients could be sourced here.
Why only 40%?
Because sea spirit beasts are far more numerous.
Beyond that, the Star Dou Forest had another major advantage—it housed the largest population of dragon-type spirit beasts on the continent.
Perhaps it was because the Beast God Di Tian himself was a dragon, or maybe it was the influence of the Silver Dragon King who slumbered here, subtly releasing an aura that attracted dragonkind. Whatever the reason, the forest had an unusually high concentration of dragons, especially various sub-dragon species.
Although Qi Han had just received the Intermediate Promotion Quest and still had no idea what kind of dish he needed to create—after all, 2 Star recipes were significantly more complex than 1 Star ones, and the previous simple approach wouldn't work again—he did know what ingredient he wanted to use.
He had recently been studying materials on dragon-based ingredients, and now he was headed to a place teeming with dragon species.
For this 2 Star dish, he would use dragon meat as the main ingredient.
