It's About Someone's Life
My phone was ringing.
I stared at the screen.
Unknown Number blinking like a warning.
The room was quiet, still dense with the sour aftertaste of the morning: the neighbors' whispered insults, Lilith's poison curling through every thought.
Now there was only silence.
And me, sitting on the edge of my bed, holding my breath without realizing it.
"Is this a stalker?" I muttered into the stillness. "Or… maybe it's important."
Hope flickered. A job offer. The certification office. Anything normal.
I swiped to answer. "Hello?"
A beat of silence.
Then a voice, smooth and cool as polished marble.
"Alayna."
Not a question. A statement. A claim.
"Yes… who's this?" My guard climbed up my spine.
"This is Armand."
My heart stumbled.
I blinked. "Oh. Armand. Hello. How... how did you get this number? I don't recall us ever exchanging..."
