Chapter 260
I stood in the dark hallway of the Halton mansion, beside Dafa. His eyes were swollen, his face pale. His whole body felt rigid next to mine, like a pillar about to collapse.
"Dafa," I said softly.
He turned. "Yes?"
"I need to go home. Father is waiting in the car."
He nodded. Didn't answer. His gaze drifted back toward the dark living room, where his father still sat in silence after Minerva's confession.
"Will you be okay?"
He smiled weakly. Not convincing. "I'll try."
"I'm serious, Dafa."
"So am I." He took a long breath.
"Go," he said. "Your father is waiting."
I nodded. I turned. I stepped away.
My father had already started the car engine. White smoke rose from the exhaust. The headlights shone brightly into the dark morning.
I opened the passenger door and sat down.
"Said your goodbyes?" he asked.
"Yes."
He nodded. Didn't ask further. He knew I needed time to process everything.
