Chapter 278
My breath caught in my throat. My hand tightened around the phone.
I didn't know what to say. I didn't know how to respond. My mind was blank, empty, like the attic around me.
"Did you just..." I started. Stopped.
Dafa: Yes? Am I successful to distract you?
I blinked. Then I laughed. A startled, breathless laugh that escaped before I could stop it.
"Not bad. Nice jokes."
Dafa: "But it wasn't a joke."
My heart was pounding. I could feel it in my chest, in my ears, in my throat. The same heart I had thought was empty, that I had thought was incapable of feeling anything. Now it was beating so loudly I was sure he could hear it through the phone.
Dafa Haltons. The man that I met when I was in a storm. When my world was failing. We didn't know each other but we got engaged all of a sudden. Did he really mean what he said? His words? His confession?
