Alex felt like stabbing himself in the throat. He still couldn't bring himself to believe Damon, but his uncle decided to show him a hand-drawn image of Arthur. The moment Alex saw it, his world came crashing down — he could no longer run from the truth.
"Why... why did he kill my parents and then offer to help me? Tell me!" Alex shouted, clutching his chest. A raw pain tore through him — was this what Atticus meant when he talked about regret? He had said Alex would be able to handle it, but look at him now...
"The ancient bloodline that was passed down to you by your mother," Damon said quietly. "That's what he's after."
