I smiled as Anis looked around at the various sea life. She was starin' at some northern turtles. Their shells were gray and alabaster. This species of turtle used their shells as camouflage when on land. The polar bears of Kuroyuki usually preferred seals and fish, but those further in land would sometimes hunt the turtles if desperate enough. Being able to pull their limbs inside and blend in with the snowy rocks was the only defense these slow-moving reptiles had against such massive predators capable of bypassin' their defenses with brute force alone. A swipe from a fully grown bear could shatter ice shelves; against a shell, it was just a matter of whether the beast lost patience before it managed to crack the seam.
"Look, Pa!" Anis chirped, tapping Pingui's felt beak right against the display glass. "They got snow armor! Stealth camouflage units!"
