The sun was beginning to set, casting long shadows across the valley. The mountains glowed with a soft, pink light.
Mama looked at me, her expression serious. "Are you tired?"
I shook my head. "Nope!"
She smiled. "Good. Because we still have a long way to go."
We rolled on through the night, the only light coming from the lanterns on our wagons. My eyes widened as I saw rainbows in the sky. Well, they looked like rainbows, but wavy and green.
"Mama, look, rainbows!"
Mama chuckled. "Those aren't rainbows, sweetie. They are aurora."
I tilted my head. "Aurora?"
She nodded. "They're a phenomenon that can usually only be seen in the north and south. The sun's energy interacts with the atmosphere, creating these beautiful lights. All the metal mana in Mizu no Kin further enhances them."
I continued to stare at the dancing lights in the sky. They were amazing. The sight made me feel small and insignificant, but also filled me with a sense of wonder and awe.
