During the drive, Sitwell, realizing how much he had confessed, started entertaining thoughts of switching sides.
"HYDRA doesn't take kindly to traitors," he muttered, half to himself.
Before he could continue, Sam, who was driving, snapped in frustration, "Then shut your mouth!"
Meanwhile, Natasha turned to Steve, who was seated in the passenger seat, "The Insight Project launches in 16 hours. We're running out of time."
Steve gazed out of the window, thinking aloud, "I know. We'll use Sitwell to bypass the DNA scans and board the helicarriers directly."
Hearing this, Sitwell protested, "What? Are you insane?"
"That's a terrible idea! Do you have any idea how many enhanced operatives S.H.I.E.L.D. has prepared?"
Before he could say more, a loud thud landed on the car roof, followed by the sound of shattering glass. Suddenly, Sitwell was yanked out through the broken window by a metallic arm and hurled onto the street.
"Ah!"
A speeding truck struck Sitwell, and his scream abruptly ended as he disappeared under its massive wheels.
At that moment, the Winter Soldier stood atop the car and drew his weapon, firing three shots toward the interior.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
But Natasha had already anticipated the attack and leapt into Steve's lap, avoiding the bullets.
Sam slammed the accelerator and pulled the handbrake simultaneously, causing the car to spin. The sudden maneuver flung the Winter Soldier off the roof.
However, he landed gracefully after a roll, using his metal arm to grip the ground and halt his momentum.
Seeing him rise, Natasha pulled out her gun to fire.
"Bang!"
Just then, an armored vehicle rammed into their car from behind, sending the gun flying from Natasha's grasp.
The armored truck pushed their car forward. The Winter Soldier leapt onto the roof again, smashed through the windshield, and yanked the steering wheel off, tossing it aside.
Watching the steering wheel fly out of the car, Sam turned to Steve and shouted:
"Shit!"
Natasha picked up her pistol and began firing at the Winter Soldier on the car roof.
"Pew! Pew! Pew!"
The Winter Soldier, however, leapt onto the hood of the pursuing armored vehicle to evade the shots. The armored vehicle then rammed into their car once again.
As the car flipped over, Steve grabbed Sam and Natasha, leaping out of the vehicle. Using the car door as a shield, they skidded along the ground for several meters.
Unfortunately, Sam wasn't as lucky. Unable to steady himself against the sudden inertia, he was flung through the air, landing hard on the road and momentarily losing consciousness.
The armored vehicle came to a stop, and five operatives stepped out. One of them handed a grenade launcher to the Winter Soldier.
Taking the launcher, the Winter Soldier aimed directly at Steve.
"Boom!"
Steve shoved Natasha out of the way and raised his shield to block the incoming assault.
"Kaboom!"
The grenade detonated against the shield, producing a massive explosion. The force hurled Steve backward, smashing him into the windshield of a nearby car before he fell off the overpass. His shield flew from his grasp during the impact.
Steve landed on a moving bus below, causing it to crash into a crane and topple onto its side.
Meanwhile, on the bridge, the Winter Soldier and the five operatives unleashed a hail of gunfire at Natasha and Sam, who were pinned behind a car.
"Rat-tat-tat!"
The rapid gunfire was relentless, forcing Natasha and Sam to retreat from cover to cover.
Natasha returned fire with her pistol, but the Winter Soldier responded by firing another grenade, blowing up the car she was hiding behind.
Luckily, Natasha had anticipated the grenade and dove away in time. She scrambled, evading the continuous gunfire from the operatives, who didn't let up.
The Winter Soldier fired another grenade at her. Natasha flipped over the edge of the bridge, deploying a grappling hook mid-air to swing to safety beneath the bridge and escape to the other side.
The Winter Soldier grabbed a rifle from one of the operatives and moved to the edge of the bridge, ready to shoot at Natasha the moment she reappeared.
But Natasha spotted his shadow and fired first.
"Bang!"
Her shot was precise, hitting the Winter Soldier's goggles. However, the goggles were bulletproof, and the shot only created a crack.
The Winter Soldier crouched to avoid further shots, removed the damaged goggles, and threw them away. He then stood up and unleashed a barrage of bullets down below.
Both sides quickly emptied their magazines. Natasha fled, using parked cars as cover, while the Winter Soldier turned to the operatives and ordered, "She's mine. Find him."
With that, the Winter Soldier jumped off the bridge in pursuit of Natasha.
The five operatives, unable to jump like him, used grappling hooks to rappel down.
By this time, Steve had just climbed out of the overturned bus. Four operatives armed with machine guns and rifles descended to his position, while the fifth guarded the ropes from above.
The four operatives immediately began firing at the bus, sending bullets spraying across its length.
"Rat-tat-tat!"
Unable to pinpoint Steve's exact location, they swept the bus from front to back with relentless gunfire.
Steve had no choice but to flee. Dodging bullets, he dove out of the bus, snatched up his shield from the ground, and crouched behind it for protection, using it to shield his entire body from the barrage.
