Sienna Johnson took a piece of candy from her pocket, unwrapped it, and stuffed it into the man's mouth. "Here, your favorite liqueur chocolate. Is it good?"

"Shade, the sunset today is beautiful," Sienna Johnson insisted, determined that the man before her was Shade Jervois, not the sinister Night Owl.
The man's mouth was full of candy, and his eyebrows furrowed. Sienna Johnson ordered, "Don't spit it out. If you dare, you'll never have candy again."
"I'm not Shade! I hate candy!" Night Owl spat out the candy, disgusted by the taste, and rinsed his mouth with clear seawater.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, it painted the sea gold, creating an illusion of warmth. Yet, Sienna Johnson's feet, submerged in the seawater, felt numb from the cold.
She had thought this island was safe enough, so she'd let her guard down.
