She touched her stomach, feeling a bit hungry, and planned to get up and cook something to warm her belly. As she sat up straight, the bed board creaked with the sound of "ee-ah," "ee-ah," prompting Philip Shaw, who was sitting at the door watching the rain, to turn his head, "Awake?"
