Aldana Candi was slightly stunned, and what followed was a faint, delicate awkwardness.
She didn't really understand what Liam Summer meant; between the two of them, it didn't seem like things had reached that kind of relationship.
You could even say they weren't worthy of being called "friends" at all.
Aldana forced a smile, lowered her head and said nothing. Liam dropped his gaze, watching the expression on Aldana's face, and seemed to sense her slight resistance; his eyes darkened a shade.
He said, "I want you to get used to it—the intimacy we'll have in the future."
"What?" Aldana lifted her head. "Get used to what?"
"I once considered marrying you. Back when Steven Balance was still alive, I told him I wanted him to back out, that I'd take you to America and marry you."
This was the first time, in all the time they'd known each other, that he had spoken of Steven Balance's death, and of what had once existed between him and Steven.
