Chapter 22 - Huo Family

The white wolf, with his yellow eyes fixed on the young miss, gradually let the raw malice in his gaze subside. Huang Biren looked down at the wolf with genuine surprise, wondering how her silent companion had become so powerful so quickly. She walked over to him, gently placed her hand on his head, and rubbed his snow-white fur with a profound love and care that was far beyond what she would ever show for a mere pet.

As the two were sharing this tender moment, the wolf noticed the first prince's crumpled body gradually disappearing, shimmering strangely in and out of existence. The wolf immediately ran from the young miss in an attempt to stop whatever mystical process was happening, but by the time his paws reached the blood-soaked spot, the body had completely vanished into thin air. The two looked at each other with deep confusion, but there was nothing they could do to trace the anomaly.

They walked out of the room together. In the long corridors of the palace, Huang Biren saw the bodies of royal guards left and right, every single one of them cleanly beheaded by a single, precise cut to the neck. Huang Biren looked down at the entirely unsurprised white wolf and instantly knew he was the sole culprit behind the slaughter. She simply smiled at him and said nothing.

The two continued walking through the grand architecture of the palace. When they finally reached the central throne room, the high-ranking members of the Huang family were already gathered there in force. On the stone floor, hundreds of people were tightly tied up, some hovering on the brink of death from prior clashes. These captives were the surviving members of the royal family and the four rival ruling houses. Huang Biren walked toward the throne, where her father sat as if he were already an absolute king.

The heavy presence given off by Patriarch Huang was that of an emperor who ruled entire worlds, whose spoken word was law. All who obeyed him thrived, and those who dared oppose him died. It was as though Patriarch Huang was naturally born to rule over all men. The scene was made even more dramatic by the former king of the Tinding Kingdom, who was kneeling submissively in front of the throne with his entire family lined up behind him, with only the missing first prince absent from the lineup.

When the patriarch saw Huang Biren enter safely, his intimidating posture vanished. He jumped off the throne and instantly pulled her into a tight, protective hug. "My daughter, Father is very sorry for this. If I had not been so busy with outside affairs, I would have destroyed these lowly creatures long ago, saving you from all of this pain," said the patriarch. Patriarch Huang went on to say even more embarrassing, doting things, causing everyone else in the room to be completely flabbergasted. How was such a dramatic father able to give off such a terrifying, kingly aura just moments before?

When the patriarch was finally done doting on his youngest daughter, his demeanor instantly shifted back to absolute coldness. He calmly walked toward the kneeling royal family and viciously kicked the third prince. The prince was sent flying across the vast room until he collided heavily with a stone wall, where the kinetic force flattened him like a stepped-on bug. The royal family gasped in raw horror at the brutal sight, but the members of the Huang family were not surprised at all. They knew that for Patriarch Huang, his two daughters were his heaven and earth, his greatest treasures in the mortal realm. If anyone did anything to harm them, their fate would be worse than death. The remaining royals all pressed their foreheads flat to the floor and began desperately begging for forgiveness, their voices broken and shaking with absolute fear.

When the white wolf saw this display of absolute dominance, his inner craving for power increased even further. "Where is the Huo family?" was his only burning thought. He had never forgotten how Elder Huo Yuanjia of that house had brutally murdered his mother for a core upgrade. He carefully scanned through the sea of captives but saw no one from the main Huo line, only their household servants. He looked up at Huang Biren, who seemed to instantly understand the predatory look in his eyes.

Huang Biren questioned her family members about the absence, and the answer they received was surprising. It turned out that the local Huo family was just a small branch clan, and their main ancestral family elsewhere was extremely powerful. They were influential to the extent that when an elder from the main Huo family arrived and formally asked the Huang family to let the local branch off, the Huang family elders felt they had no choice but to comply.

Of course, just the Huo family elder's words alone would not have been enough to make the proud Huang family back down. The two sides had ultimately ended up settling the diplomatic matter with a private duel between the visiting Huo family elder and a senior elder from the Huang family. Surprisingly, the Huang family elder had lost the duel.

The Huang family had been left with no choice but to let the local Huo clan off, but they did so under the strict condition that the branch leave the borders of the Tinding Kingdom permanently. Just like that, the Huo family had packed all their property and left the kingdom immediately under the protection of their powerful main clan elder.

When the white wolf heard this explanation, his yellow eyes went blood-red with pure rage, and his sharp claws tore apart the hard stone floor as though it were a piece of cheap cloth. Patriarch Huang looked down at the enraged wolf and was truly surprised. An animal he had originally bought as a cheap pet for his daughter had somehow managed to become this physically powerful. He thought about it further and simply concluded that his daughter must have secretly fed the beast some incredibly precious, ancient herb from the treasury.

The patriarch moved back to the grand throne and sat down like a true king. He looked callously at the kneeling members of the rival ruling families before he calmly raised his right hand. When he brought it down sharply, as if chopping the air, a synchronized wave of energy rippled through the room. The heads of all the rival ruling family members instantly fell to the ground; they had all been executed simultaneously.

"Take the surviving royal family to the deepest dungeons. They will be publicly executed at high noon tomorrow in front of all the citizens of the kingdom. Make sure the scribes prepare a comprehensive list of all their historical crimes," said the patriarch as he got even more comfortable on his new throne.
