Chapter 11 - CHAPTER 11

When I open my eyes, I'm surrounded by loud conversation. My vision becomes clearer as I blink repeatedly in an effort to tell the different persons in my immediate vicinity apart.

A nurse looked up at me and asked, "Oh, your awake?" I nodded in response.

She says in a joyful voice, "Good, good, now I'm not exactly sure what caused it but you were out for two days straight. Through this your body is mostly healed and you only have a couple of tests you need to run, besides that you should be all right to go."

"Okay"

The nurse briefly leaves the room and enters a closet in my hospital room that I had no idea existed. She returned and took a seat next to the bed.

She asks seriously, looking down at her clipboard, "Patients must go through a series of tests before they can finally be free. So I'm going to have to put you through them. Understand?" She finally glances up, and I nod.

Awesome. Let's get started. Try to sit up first here using my arm, she replied. I clung to her arm and forced myself as high as I could, managing to sit up straight.

Now that everything is in order, she said, "I want you to move your body and sit with your legs hanging off the bed, without my support." I let go of her arm and made an effort to go through the bed with my body. I unconsciously screamed out as I prepared to turn my leg when a sharp pain struck my lower leg.

She exclaims in a worried tone, "Oh my, what's wrong?" as I hurriedly turn my leg to the side to get rid of the excruciating agony.

I retort nonchalantly, "I'm fine", and I raise my seat to the position she instructed. She gives a head nod before taking notes.

She says, "Okay, now try to stand up," and I do so while experiencing some leg pain.

Good, she declares.

Now try walking, she says again. I advance one step, barely maintaining my balance. When she sees me struggling, she gets up and grabs my arm. It takes me approximately five times of walking in a circle before I can do it effortlessly.

She turns me towards the bed, "Awesome!" she says. She sits in the chair as I take a seat on the bed.

"You have essentially passed the test. Your physical condition is functioning well for the most part. My partner will check on your body. Sit tight until they," she says, getting up from her seat. As she approaches the door, it suddenly opens again, letting a male nurse enter just as her hand is about to touch the doorknob.

Before she went away and he walked in my direction, they exchanged a few brief words.

He introduces himself, saying, "Hello, my name is Nurse Brian, and today I'll be doing the last part of your check up." I return his greeting and bow before lying down at his request.

He continued as I closed my eyes, "Miss, I will just scan your entire body so just stay still and keep your eyes closed." I could hear wires and noises going off. He finally speaks after a few minutes of bewilderment and ignorance.

I hesitantly open my eyes after hearing him exclaim, "All done. I turn around to find a gentle smile from him.

"Everything looks good miss, here are your results. From the papers, you are all well except for a pain inside your leg. My partner has told me that you were struggling to move your legs so my only guess is that the pain is coming from that part. It shouldn't be a problem now and you should be able to walk normally for the most part, but if the pain becomes more severe, come back as soon as possible because there could be a chance that this could lead to something worrisome.

I inquire, only wanting to return to the security of my den, "Sure. Am I allowed to leave now nurse?"

He handed me a bottle and said, "Yes, we will let you go. All of your baggage are on the side, and here is a bag of medication for your leg. Make sure to put it to the discomfort twice a day, once just before you wake up and again just before bed.

I say "Thank you" and take it from his hand.

I nod my head at his comments, "No worries at all. When you're ready to leave, just make your way to the front so you can sign some papers." The nurse leaves the room after taking his necessary materials and doing so in silence.

I get out of bed and begin to practice walking before going to retrieve my suitcase. I loaded it onto the cart next to it and rolled it out of my room. I follow the directions to move toward the closest elevator and descend to the main floor.

A worker spots me as I leave and approaches me right away.

She offers, "Miss, I'll wheel your bags out. Where shall I take them?" I nod at her with gratitude and let go of the bags.

I respond, "Just to the front." She brings me to the front desk, and I lag behind. The receptionist sees me and hangs up her phone after grinning.

She says, "Hey, what can I do for you?" I give a small smile as I describe the circumstances and directions I received. I shrug and take a few papers as she brings me to a room in the back after a few requests for explanation.

As she does one final scan of the page, she announces, "Your all set." I nod as we say our goodbyes.

The staff member who offered to carry my suitcase said, "To your car miss?"

As I leave the hospital and wait at the front, I say, "No, I'm just waiting for an Uber. I called one earlier so it should be here anytime."

I remark, "You could just leave that there. I'll be good to go from here," and she nods.

Off course miss. Have a wonderful day, she responds as she releases the cart.

I respond, "You too," as she leaves. After waiting for about 10 minutes, the uber arrives, and we instantly load everything.

The driver calls out, "All set ma'am?"

I curtly respond, "Yep," and he leaves.
