The midnight chimes began to ring. A shadow was looming in darkened corridors.
The hem of the white nightgown swept over the floor, hiding cautious footsteps that blended well into the quiet darkness, and the steps halted only when it arrived in front of a room among many rooms that lined up on the left and right sides.
A faint jingling sound of dull metal disrupted the stillness of the night. Before long, a click sound signaling the door opening followed suit, making the movement to pause for a certain moment of time and resuming after the stillness was back to lull in the dimness.
Once the door was cautiously pushed open, a silhouetted figure was found lying alone on the large bed inside the dim, spacious room.
The night air was chiller than the days before. It was all thanks to the dancing flame in the fireplace that dispelled the chill so that the shadow was now enveloped with warmth.
