Jackson Russo took a deep drag from his cigarette, nearly finishing it in one breath, then stubbed it out and exhaled heavily.
"Are you guys heading out?"
He deflected the question, clearly not wanting them to meddle in his affairs.
"You've been to the hospital?"
Jackson pursed his lips, "Yeah, I flew there."
It had only been about an hour since lunch. If they had really gone to the hospital, just undergoing a check-up would have taken some time. There's no way he'd be here now.
Anyone with a bit of wit would have heard the sarcasm in this exchange.
Joel Russo's expression remained cold and stern, "What happened?"
"Nothing."
"Get out here!"
Jackson stayed in the car the whole time, answering each question Joel threw at him, remaining unseen and unreadable.
Though brothers typically don't pay much attention to formalities, Joel ultimately lost his temper.
"..." After a moment of silence, Jackson finally opened the car door and stepped out.
