Dylan Young got up and carefully placed Nell Harris's hand by her side.
In the darkness, he stood by the bed, watching Nell Harris and Scarlett Glenn for a while.
Both were sleeping soundly. Scarlett, being small, was not a stable sleeper and had kicked off the blanket. He gently covered them both and leaned down to kiss each of their foreheads.
Dylan said softly, "Sleep well, I'll be back soon."
He returned to his own bedroom and pulled out a dagger, a personal weapon that had been with him for many years.
Dylan pushed open the window and climbed out.
He moved quickly and silently, like a phantom in the night. With a few leaps, he was already behind several people standing downstairs.
The four individuals were speaking in hushed tones.
"I just went up to check it out. It's the unit on the second floor, a total of three people, a man, a woman, and a child. I saw three shadows, two on the bed, and one on the floor in the master bedroom on the east side."
