Chapter 183 - Into the Storm: The Last Stands Begin(182)

Suddenly, a loud beep pierced the room. On the monitors, weapons began to power down. Shields dropping one by one, green lights turning red. As confusion swept over the guards face.

" What the– " one of them said. " Oh no… we're going to face serious consequences with our commander and Cesar. "

If only they knew that the daughter of their nation leader was the one putting a stop to their plans. The very same little girl who used to follow Cesar around hoping one day she would make him proud. To say that she was proud of the lady she was becoming. As the guards barked at the stranger, " Hey! Whoever you are, step away from the controls! "

But instead of flinching, Starfania stood, slowly turning towards them. Her posture almost resembled her father when he was addressing his kingdom. Chin held high and eyes that could make a person tremble before them. The light from the screens cast a gleam across her armor. Just enough to reveal the sigil of the Dragon Savior etched into the armor. While the blue sapphire on the hilt of her sword gleamed in the light. The guard's laughter died instantly. They stared.

"... That symbol… " one whispered.

" Their face–it's hidden, but that emblem…I thought they were myths. " the other murmured, suddenly pale. Starfania took a step forward, the sound of her boots echoing in the tense silence. Her voice was steady, a calm contrast to the fluttering hearts around her. "Myth or not, I am here."

She let the weight of her words settle like a fog, drifting between them. The soldiers exchanged hesitant glances, uncertainty creeping into their expressions.

As the tension thickened like a storm about to break, one of the guards, his face twisted in anger. " I don't care if you're the Dragon Savior. Now. Step back or suffer the consequences. "

A jolt of adrenaline surged through Starfania, her heartbeat thundering in her ears–but she stood her ground. Every instinct screamed to move, to run, but she forced herself to remain still. Calm. Unshaken. Her helmet masked her expression, but not her voice. Despite her courage, the soft undertone of youths slipped through–reminding them, and Starfania, that she was just a child. The second guard hesitated, glancing at his comrades with unease.

" You're sure that's necessary? " he muttered, his voice laced with unease. " She's just a kid. "

Something in his tone–genuine, conflicted–cut through the tension for a brief moment. The hardened shell of duty cracked, ever so slightly. But that moment was fleeting. With a shift in his stance, the second guard drew his blade, determination flashing in his eyes as he stepped closer. The room shrank, silence wrapping around them like a noose. She didn't wait. With a swift practiced motion, Starfania unsheathed her sword, the cold steel glinting under the control room lights. They stood face to face, blades drawn, locked in a quiet standoff. The first guard froze in horror, uncertain weather to intervene or retreat. Then–a blur of motion from above. The guard had stepped directly beneath the vent. In perfect sync, Lyam and Aeron dropped down. In a single, fluid strike, they tackled the guards to the ground. A scuffle. A shout. And then silence.
