Chapter 6 - DECEPTION?

Silence

Four pairs of eyes stared at the weird creature sitting on the bed. She was acting more like she came for a vacation than an actual captive.

Xander narrowed his eyes and signalled Zane who rolled his eyes and gave orders. At the arrival of food, uncaring if it could be drugged or poisoned, Kauleen dug in. She ate leisurely and elegantly as though dining in a 5-star restaurant; completely uncaring of the four pair of eyes watching her every move. After the meal, she had the urge to go back to sleep but knew her captors will undoubtedly lose all patience.

Locking eyes with Zane who sat right across from her, she studied him closely with a tilted head while giving a quiet look of 'i ain't talking till you do'.

Zane pushed a file in front of her and Kauleen arched a perfect brow and opened the file indifferently. She was met with an extensive report of all her 'deeds slash crimes' over the years. An arrogant smirk formed on her lips

"Your purpose" , He said

But she actively ignored him, suddenly engrossed in just how far she had progressed in her mission...

..damn... 807 908 rogues and 65 000 mutants in ten years? I should retire soon..

Zane rubbed his brow in exasperation and spoke beneath his mask

" Miss King..."

Kauleen's eyes flashed, sharpening immediately. The other three tensed immediately, ready for any attack. Despite their innate confidence in their abilities and obvious advantages as advanced creatures, this woman wasn't to be underestimated.

But all she did was to toss a USB drive from who knows where, surprising them all. At the entrance, she'd voluntarily dropped all weapons and allowed to be scanned for anything hidden without any struggle so the sudden appearance of a device completely undetected by their devices and senses was trully unsettling but understandable given the reputation of the Kings. No one evertrully discovered the extent their technologies had progressed and the thought that she might be hiding more than she displayed put them on edge.

She was too dangerous to be left alone and her constant killing of rogues and mutants, while helpful to both worlds, was alarming and out of control. Their frustration only mounted upon the discovery of her lineage. The Kings are basically royalty despite their downfall. After the wipeout, the only survivor, their female heir had disappeared completely from the face of the earth and it was concluded that she might have died too. Suddenly discovering she'd been around all these while and living right under their noses was quite a blow to the pride of the rulers of both worlds.

Unknown how they got the knowledge, the main task assigned is to determine just how useful the woman will be and if she could be controlled. The assets of the Kings were to great to give up and while there had been many trials over the years, no one has succeeded in claiming them.

Zane narrowed his eyes at the drive and studied the woman sitting accross from him for any clue on what it might hold but she remained unchanged with thesame nonchalant aura that seemed ingrained in her bones. He raised a brow at Xander and gave a signal to the twins standing guard at the door, watching the exchange with quiet vigilance.

Aftet setting up an advanced laptop, the USB drive was plugged in and a distorted image came on.

In a large carven hall, a dense ball of energy glowed a faint blue hue. It gave of a feeling of a beating heart as the glow flickered with an interval of a second. A woman came into view. She limped as she struggled to walk, blood pooling every where but her eyes held a feral determination. In her hand, a frim grip enclosed a large syringe filled with a strange green solution.

"Laura!"

Her head whipped around and her features, despite the madness filling her eyes, were exquisite. She bore an uncanny resemblance to Kauleen with the only difference being her blonde hair which was matted in blood and sweat.

A group of men followed her- vampires. They stood a distance away and carefully tried to reason with the crazed woman.

"Laura, this is not necessary. You'll end it all! All the research and work will go to waste!!" The tall male at the forefront said, his voice urgent and desperate

The woman only sneered and turned to plunge the needle into the strange energy

"No!!!"

With the scream came a sound of gunshot then a loud sound of explosion as the screen went dark.

Then a few more clips came up, each more gruesome than the last, depicting betrayal and schemes that run deep. The first footage had been from two hundred and forty seven years ago and the most recent was just ten years ago- 31st December 2283. Right there in the footage depicting a happy celebration sat the supposed dead woman from more than 200 years ago...
