Somewhere in an underground lab...
"Sir, these are the results from the tests we conducted with the blood you gave us," said the chief assistant—once a medical ninja and scientist in Kirigakure, now one of Orochimaru's underlings—presenting him a report.
"Hmm, blood type is good enough, no trace of injuries, has good regenerative power... Hmm, this is not enough. I need more data about the boy," Orochimaru said.
"We are sorry, sir, but we need more samples if we want to find all of the data about the boy. The bone marrow, bones, hairs, a little bit more of the DNA sample would be nice as well... Oh, if we can get him here, it would be for the best," the doctor said. Being from Kirigakure had its benefits, at least in this case, as he was not averse to killing at all. In fact, he joined Orochimaru because he was unable to do his research peacefully in Kirigakure anymore.
"This may have to wait for some time," Orochimaru dismissed the man before opening his other files on the table.
Kaida Uchiha had stayed in the village for whole month. No sign of him leaving the village. Also no sign of any Kaguya ninja in Konoha as well. Maybe Toad Sage has doubts about me being your spy, so don't trust any more messages from me, Orochimaru-sama.
With the encryption and juinjutsu he had implanted in his spies, there was no way he would get a fake message. It meant the boy was staying in the village, and even perfectly hiding Kimimaro as well.
'It is always more fun when prey tries to resist, hide in their burrows,' Orochimaru thought, then slowly turned toward the little girl trying to hide in the cage in the room.
"The look on their face when they find out that the home they have been thinking of as their safe place is not so safe in reality," a sickening smile came on his face, frightening the life out of the poor girl who couldn't even scream because of the seal he had placed on her.
"So you have been recently promoted as a chunin. Congratulations," Jiraiya said to the ninja sitting in front of him—a completely average chunin who just came back from a simple delivery mission and found himself drinking with the legendary sannin himself.
In front, he was going all fan vibes, but in reality, he was sweating buckets sitting with Jiraiya.
"Thank you, Jiraiya-sama," the man said.
Smack! Jiraiya smacked the empty glass down on the table before continuing.
"You are such a good guy. I am sorry for doubting you. You know, there are reports about you always taking a break during missions whenever something happens in the village, and how there have been several messenger hawks spotted in the same area wherever you go to complete your missions. I am sure all of those are just coincidences, right?" Suddenly, all of the redness on Jiraiya's face vanished, and he became completely sober, like all of the wine he drank was nothing but water.
This sudden change spooked the ninja a little, but he still maintained his composure surprisingly well, showing a little bit of pain and shock, but mostly repulsion, like Jiraiya had just insulted his parents.
"I am sorry, Jiraiya-sama, but I have been nothing but loyal to the village and will always be. I am not sure why you think I am a spy, but trust me, this is nothing but a misunderstanding," the chunin said, standing up while speaking, a little anger evident in his voice.
"Hmm, I was hoping to do this the civil way. Ah! Leave it. Let's see what my friend has prepared for me this time," Jiraiya said, standing as well.
And suddenly, the customers in the pub stopped chatting, looking towards the ninja and Jiraiya with complete focus.
'This is a trap.'
"Do you think Jiraiya-sama will need a trap for someone like you? It's for the safety of the civilians that we are here," the bartender said, taking away the glasses.
The ninja became visibly tense at the situation, started looking all around for any escape route, but the whole room was packed with people who were most likely ANBU, and not to mention Jiraiya himself was present in the room.
And even if some miracle happened and he managed to run away, there was no way he would be able to leave Konoha anyway.
"Hahahahahaha! Good, good! As expected of the spymaster of Konoha, you were able to find me even with all of the failsafes I used, but there is no way youuu will be able to get any information from me, Toad Sage," the chunin said before activating a seal present right next to his heart.
"Why did you think I wasted so much time chatting with you?" Jiraiya laughed while saying that, his hand already present on the seal, trying to stop it from killing the man.
But it was way too close to his heart, and the chunin himself trying to activate the seal, which made stopping it increasingly tricky.
"Wait, what are you doing to me?" the chunin actually panicked for the first time when he saw various arrays forming on his body after Jiraiya placed his next hand on his head.
"I can see that I can't save you, but I don't need you alive to get the information. I just need to save your brain from the seal your master has given you. So you can die while knowing that your death made little change," Jiraiya said.
"Nooo!" the chunin shouted, as he actively tried to overload his brain with chakra to burst it. Sadly, it was not possible. Just like how you can't kill yourself by holding your own breath, there is no way the same energy whose whole function is to keep you alive will kill you.
Even if you try, in less than two seconds, the ninja died from the effect of Orochimaru's seal, but Jiraiya was able to save his brain from getting destroyed.
"Where is that Yamanaka?" Jiraiya shouted, still holding his hand on the chunin's head to make sure his brain didn't get destroyed.
Soon, a blond ninja came forward and, without need of any order, started reading the memories of the chunin.
Splat!
'A second array?' Jiraiya moved before he could fully process what was happening, shielding the Yamanaka from the juinjutsu seal coming toward him.
Alas! He was unable to save the brain anymore.
"He is getting too thorough with his preparations," Jiraiya said, looking toward the corpse lying on the floor—once a respected chunin of the village, now died as a traitor.
"Jiraiya-sama, I was able to read a little bit before... all that."
"Good, what was it?"
"His latest order was to track someone in the village and notify someone when that person leaves the village, but I could neither get the name of the person he had to track nor whom he had to report to. I am sorry," the Yamanaka ninja said.
"No problem. This much is enough," Jiraiya said, solemnly looking toward the Uchiha compound.
