Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

Beside me, Briareus's entire tensed body gradually eased up, as I gently held his hand, I could tell all eyes were on me, but I simply didn't care as I stood by his side.

Briareus stilled for a moment, his raging eyes gradually were replaced with incredulous gaze, clearly surprised by my reaction. I could tell his rage had somewhat diminished significantly.

Turning to his brothers I glared at them extremely furious, and disgusted at them. I didn't no idea why they hated him that much, and why they were willing to stoop so low, but it wasn't my business.

However, what I did know was that Briareus was now my business, even though I hadn't known him all my life and it wasn't my wish to be married to him. But he was the first person who had treated me with kindness and care, beside my late mother.

He was the only person who had shown me so much care, after leaving my father's devilish castle, most importantly I was now his wife and he was now my husband.

Also, I had only one option and that was to do my best in this marriage, regardless of the rumors and gossips around him.

Briareus's brothers stared back at me in disbelief. They seemed taken aback by my sudden display of determination. I took a deep breath, composing myself.

They glared at me for a moment, clearly showing their hostility. They scoffed but said nothing, it was clear they didn't want to push the situation further.

"Well, I wish you both a happy married life." The crown prince said, taking another gurp of wine from his wine glass slurring over his words.

"Thank you." I said stiffly, not backing down, glaring back at them. His brothers said nothing but I could tell there was a strange glint in the eyes of the crown prince when he said that.

Briareus raised his gaze up to their eyes, as if printing what happened today in his mind. Before walking away with my hand in his leaving the dinner party.

**********

Throughout the walk from the dinner party, it was filled with silence. Briareus was completely silent as he held my hand, I could still feel he had an incredulous gaze filled with surprise.

From time to time he would stare at me briefly, as though in deep thought. The reason Briareus kept quiet wasn't because he had nothing to say, but rather he was at a loss for words.

If anything could be said, this was the first time in his entire life someone had ever stood up for him. He kept staring at her, unable to fathom the reason she stood up for him.

He wasn't someone who believed in the word love, so why would she stand up for him? Why would she go that far? Even after hearing all those rumors and what his brothers had said in front of her.

Ever since he was born everyone was either afraid of him, or hated him it was to the point of rumors spreading about him, yet even after hearing all those things she wasn't afraid or scared of his presence.

A girl who had just become his wife, who barely knew him, surprised him and showed his cold and cynical heart warmth and care. He kept seizing her up along the way, the more he did he realized how beautiful she now was in his sight.

Once they arrived at their chamber, Briareus who had been staring at her all this while suddenly noticed she seemed to be lost in thought.

Concerned, Briareus approached Maybelline, taking her hand gently in his own. "Is something bothering you, Maybelline?" he asked, his voice filled with both curiosity and worry.

Maybelline sighed, her gaze downcast. "Nothing," I replied, trying to make her voice devoid of worry.

Briareus squeezed her hand, silently reassuring her. "I understand," he said softly.

"Would you like to go outside with me?" He asked.

Maybelline eyes widened in surprise and anticipation as she considered Briareus proposal, the idea of going out feeling the fresh scent of flowers and grasses brushing against her face thrilled her.

Briareus had noticed how she liked being outside the garden, so he wondered how she would react if he told her about his proposal and his guess was right.

The moment he said this to her, he could see the genuine desire in her eyes.
