Chapter 9
It was raining heavily at midnight, with the moon shining bright through the heavy rain. A breakout had occurred at Ryker's prison, when The Shocker, Sandman, and Vulture had escaped.
The helicopter landed at Oscorp, where Norman was waiting.
"You filthy rich swine!" Growled Adrian.
"Good to see you too, Toomes. All 3 of you. Head to level 118, aka Special Projects. Dimitri, come here!" Said Norman.
The three headed down as Dimitri approached Norman.
"Yes, Mr Osborn?" Asked Dimitri.
"Spider-Man is going to be hot on our trail, and Kingpin specifically said he cannot interfere. I need you to handle it." Said Norman.
"I have it under control. Spider-Man will be too busy to look into our business." Said Chameleon.
On Level 118, the trio went down and found themselves in front of The Kingpin.
"Gentlemen. Good to see you." Said Fisk.
"Wait, Wilson Fisk is The Kingpin?" Asked Toomes, confused.
"Yes, in fact. And I am in need of your assistance." Continued Fisk.
"And why would we help rich assholes like you?" Asked Flint, rudely.
"Because, I know what you three want the most. Money. If you help me kill Leland Owlsley. I can give you money beyond your wildest dreams." Said Fisk.
"I'm not like these basic numbskulls. I don't want money, I just want to see Norman Osborn pay for his crimes!" Spat out Vulture.
"I am aware of that, Adrian. But imagine what you could do with all of the money I give you. You could improve your tech in ways Oscorp never could. Besides, all of you can settle the score with a common enemy you three have." Explained Fisk.
"Spider-Man." Snickered Shocker.
Peter reached the address. "This is where Dr Octavius said Doctor Connors' lab would be. Fifth floor." Thought Peter, as he entered.
He walked up the stairs and to the fifth floor. The door to Connors' lab was open.
"Hello? Doctor Connors?" Asked Peter.
All of a sudden, a kid sprang up from behind one of the tables.
"Are you looking for daddy?" Asked the kid.
"Billy, there you are!" Said a voice. From another room, came a blonde man in a lab coat. He was wearing huge glasses, and was missing his right arm.
"Doctor Curt Connors?" Asked Peter.
"You must be Peter Parker! Otto has told me a lot about you." Said Curt.
"So, what do you normally do around here?" Asked Peter, his pen and notebook out.
"Well, my wife, Martha, and I work mostly with genetics. But sometimes we mingle in the chemistry side of things. Right now, we are working on limb regeneration using-"
"Using DNA from a lizard, right? Because lizards can regenerate lost limbs. Then again, so can starfish but starfish are aquatic animals, hence a lizard is the better fit." Finished Peter.
"Wow. That's impressive, Peter!" Chuckled Curt, visibly impressed. "Otto wasn't exaggerating when he said you were one of his greatest students." He remarked.
Both of them walked into the other room, where there were tanks of electric eels.
"As you know, eels have bioelectricity. As you know, bioelectricity plays a huge role in limb regeneration, as proven by scientists Ken Robinson and Colin McCaig." Explained Curt.
A man walked up from behind the tanks, holding a wrench and wearing a brown cap, with protective gear on.
"Ah yes! Peter, meet Max Dillon, a fellow scientist who has been working here for the last few years with me." Said Curt.
"Hey doc! Hey Peter, we've been expecting you." Said Max, in a very enthusiastic way as he shook Peter's hand.
All of a sudden, Peter's phone buzzed as he got a notification from the New York News app he had installed.
"Breaking News! Spider-Man was seen earlier today robbing a bank!" Read the news.
Peter was shocked. "Uh, doc. I have to go. Emergency at home!" Blurted out Peter, as he rushed out of the door.
Spider-Man swung to the scene of the crime, and landed on a nearby fire escape.
"Looks like no one was injured or killed. That's good, looks like faux Spider-Man doesn't kill people." Thought Peter, as he jumped and gracefully landed on the sidewalk.
"There he is!"
"Spider-Freak!"
"Jameson was right about you!"
Civilians were screaming. Luckily, Captain George Stacy was on the scene as well. Someone who trusted Spider-Man.
"Captain Stacy! You have to believe me, I didn't do this." Explained Spider-Man.
"I know, son. After flying criminals and ones who can turn into sand, I wouldn't be surprised if we had a shapeshifter on our hands." Said George.
"Well, looks like fake me didn't hurt anyone."
"And witnesses say he didn't even shoot a single web. Speaking of which, I need to talk to you about something. There was a breakout at Ryker's." Said George.
"Lemme guess, Shocker, Sandman and Vulture escaped." Sighed Spider-Man.
"Yeah. We're losing control of this city." Said George.
"One problem at a time. Now you said that the fake Spider-Man didn't shoot a web, right? That means he couldn't copy my web shooters. That's good, so if I do confront him, I could just web him up." Said Spider-Man.
All of a sudden, George's police scanner said: "Spider-Man spotted causing havoc in the Financial District."
"That's my cue! Said Spider-Man, as he swung away."
Spider-Man swung to the scene, but this time he stuck to the rooftops, where civilians couldn't see him.
"This is just great! Fake Spider-Man got away again." Said Peter.
All of a sudden, his Spider-Sense went crazy as he backflipped out of the way of a vibrational shock blast. When Peter turned around, he saw The Shocker standing behind him.
"Oh great, Herman! Great to see you again." Whined Peter.
"Not just me this time, Spider!" Cackled Shocker.
That's when Vulture swooped up from behind Spider-Man, grabbing his suit from the back, flying up and then slamming his face on the rooftop.
"You too, Adrian?" Asked Spider-Man.
Suddenly, a huge wave of sand wiped Spider-Man off of the rooftop, as he fell off and landed on a smaller roof.
"And Marko! Guess that makes 3." Moaned Peter, as he got up.
The three villains stood in front of Peter. "No one to save you now, Spider-Man!" Cackled Sandman.
"No!" Yelled a voice, as Daredevil landed next to him.
"Yes! Let's see you bozos take us down now!" Taunted Spider-Man.
But the villains just smiled, and then laughed loudly.
That's when Daredevil took out both his batons and joined them together, making a staff, and slammed Spider-Man's back with enough force to destroy a wall.
"AAAAAH! WHAT THE HELL?" Yelled Spider-Man.
"Daredevil" walked up to the side of the villains, and took off his mask, revealing his white mask.
"Call me… The Chameleon." Said Chameleon.
"And what should… I call all… four of you? The Jackson Four?" Groaned Spider-Man.
"Call us… The Frightful Four!" Shouted Vulture.
"Oh great, that's worse." Said Spider-Man, as he shot a web at Vulture and pulled him down.
Sandman made a huge hammer out of his arm and whacked him across the roof. While Spider-Man was in mid-air, Shocker blasted a huge vibrational blast, sending Spider-Man flying across the rooftop. Vulture grabbed Spider-Man's back with his talons and slammed him into the wall of a building, then scraped his face at high speed against the road, cracking his lenses and tearing away pieces of his mask.
Vulture flew him up and threw him on another rooftop. With Chameleon.
Spider-Man could barely stand up as Chameleon grabbed him and kneed his chest, before spin kicking him and grabbing Spider-Man's leg, and pulling him to the ground.
"These web shooters will be in handy for my impersonation of you."
"Didn't your mom tell you to keep your hands to yourself?" Asked Spider-Man, as he webbed Chameleon's legs and pulled him down.
Shocker shot a vibrational blast, but Spider-Man tumbled out of the way, causing the blast to hit Vulture.
Sandman came up from behind Spider-Man, but Peter shot a web. Except, his web shooters were missing.
"Hurkk!-" Before Peter could even finish his thought, Sandman punched him away.
Peter managed to get up, but Chameleon somehow had his web shooters. He pulled Spider-Man towards him with a web, and elbowed him in the face. Vulture swooped Peter into a wall, as Shocker blasted a huge vibrational blast, causing Spider-Man to be thrown right through the brick wall and plummeting down to the street below.
Sandman quickly made himself into a palm, and grabbed him before he fell to the ground. But then he made himself into a fist trying to crush Peter, and brought his hand down on the sidewalk.
The four villains came down, as Peter could barely stand up. When he did stand up however, Vulture shot out two metal knives disguised as feathers at Spider-Man. The feathers pinned Spider-Man shoulders to the wall, and then Chameleon webbed him up.
Chameleon then approached a near-unconscious Spider-Man.
"Listen, and listen closely. The Kingpin wants you out of the picture. So I suggest that you look the other way for once." He threatened.
"I'll never… look the other… way again." Said Peter, before falling unconscious.
Spider-Man woke up on a stretcher in an ambulance on a hospital bed, his mask still on. George Stacy was sitting next to him, along with another doctor.
"Wh-what?" Spurted out Peter, his speech slurred.
"Easy son, you've been through a lot today." Said George.
"Mr Spider-Man. My name is Michael Morbius. Don't worry, I haven't taken your mask off." Said the doctor.
"I appreciate the help, Mr Morbius, but I can take care of myself. Captain Stacy, the Frightful Four, as they're calling themselves, are working for The Kingpin. And The Kingpin is Wilson Fisk, who's fighting a gang war with Leland Owlsley, or The Owl who has a clan of ninjas-"
"Slow down, Spider-Man." Interrupted Captain Stacy. "Wilson Fisk is The Kingpin?"
"His influence runs deep, even in the police force. There's no way you can even detain him without any hard evidence." Explained Spider-Man.
"And he's hired these villains to fight a gang war with businessman Leland Owlsley, who also has a clan of ninjas?" Asked George.
"Me and Daredevil found that out." Replied Spider-Man.
"You're working with Daredevil?" Asked George surprised, with a hint of disapproval.
"He saved my life. Anyways, Owl runs an ancient society called The Hand. Kingpin and Owl have been fighting for New York for a long time. Fisk blackmailed Norman Osborn into creating these supervillains." Continued Spider-Man.
"Hold on, Norman Osborn is part of this too? It's all connected." Said George.
"Exactly. With The Frightful Four on his side and Oscorp tech, Fisk can fight The Hand and kill Owlsley." Said Peter.
"This is big. New York is in danger. I assume you and Daredevil are on it?" Asked Spider-Man.
"Yeah we are. I won't let New York be a battleground for a gang war. I won't let innocents be harmed and I will stop Fisk."
"Whatever it takes."
Chapter 10
Peter crawled up to a rooftop, every part of him in immense pain, his heart beating a mile a minute as he lay down on the roof, breathing heavily.
"It's all so much to take in. Kingpin using The Frightful Four to win a gang war against The Owl and The Hand. Norman Osborn working with Fisk. Daredevil going missing after finding out that his dead girlfriend is alive, and the Homecoming preparations." He thought
"Shit! The Homecoming preparations. I never showed up!" Exclaimed Peter, as he took out his cracked phone and quickly called Liz.
"Hey Peter." Said Liz.
"Hey Liz! I'm so sorry I couldn't show up for the Homecoming preparations! I just got so busy that I completely forgot about it." Blurted out Peter.
"Wait, you didn't show up? Oh my god, I'm so sorry! I didn't notice you weren't there." Replied Liz, surprised.
"Wait, you weren't waiting for me?" Asked Peter, thoroughly confused.
"No, why would I? I mean, don't take it the wrong way, but surprisingly many volunteers showed up." Explained Liz.
"Oh. Well, I guess we'll talk later?" Said Peter, in a sad tone.
"Yeah. See you later Peter!" Replied Liz, seemingly not picking up on his sad voice.
Peter hung up on the phone and just stared at the dark night sky.
"She doesn't like me, I guess." He thought.
All of a sudden, Daredevil jumped on the rooftop, batons in hand.
"Oh come on, Chameleon! Give me a goddamn break!" Shouted Peter as he went to punch him.
Daredevil moved out of the way. "Peter, what the hell are you doing? It's me Matt!" Exclaimed Daredevil.
"Oh, it's you. Long story to explain. Where've you been?" Asked Spider-Man.
"I went to an old friend called Stick. He leads a group called The Chaste, and they're the ones who trained me when I was a kid, and then Elektra. The Hand had revived her using a forbidden technique called Black Sky." Explained Daredevil.
"Look, it's been a long day, so can we continue this tomorrow?" Asked Peter, completely exhausted.
"Okay, but listen. Owlsley is escalating his plans. He's planning to kill Fisk soon and take control of New York entirely. And I also heard word of you committing crimes. Jameson is gonna have a field day with that one." Said Matt.
"Yeah, that was the work of The Frightful Four, aka the boy band that Fisk put together to fight The Owl. It consists of Shocker, Sandman, Vulture, and some new dude called Chameleon. He impersonated you and together the four of them kicked my ass." Explained Peter.
"Okay. We'll talk tomorrow." Said Daredevil.
Spider-Man swung to a building, and landed quickly to catch his breath.
"I need answers now. And only one person can provide them right now." Thought Peter, as he swung to Norman's penthouse.
Back in his home office, Norman was just wrapping up new Oscorp paperwork, while on the phone Dr Mendel Stromm.
"No, Stromm. This time Globulin Green will be a success, I can assure you. No, it's not unethical! What happened last time won't happen again, I can guarantee that." He said to Dr Stromm, over the phone.
Spider-Man swung threw an open window and landed in front of Norman. "Norman Osborn." He said, through gritted teeth.
"I'm gonna call you back, Mendel." Said Norman, hanging up the call. "I've been expecting you, Spider-Man." He smirked
"Cut the shit and tell me why you're working with Fisk." Demanded Spider-Man.
Norman took a deep breath, and looked remorseful. "He…he…"
"Tell me!" Yelled Spider-Man.
"He threatened to hurt Harry, okay! He threatened to hurt my son!" Spat out Norman, his eyes welling up.
"Fisk threatened to hurt Harry. That's why you helped him."
"I never wanted things to turn out this way! I couldn't let him hurt my son. I already lost my wife, I couldn't lose Harry too!" Pleaded Norman.
"I'm sorry, Mr Osborn. I promise Fisk will pay for his crimes. If I stop him, then Harry will be safe." Said Spider-Man.
"Th-Thank you, Spider-Man." Stuttered Norman, as Spider-Man swung away.
As soon as Spider-Man left, a smug grin came on Norman's face, as he called back Dr Stromm.
"Stromm. As I was saying, Fisk cannot expose the Globulin Green incident. We shall go through the procedure again." Said Norman.
Next day, Peter hurried to school, only to be blocked by Flash.
"What's up, Puny Par-WHOA!"
Peter shoved Flash away to the side and rushed to Liz.
"Hey Liz! I came to school early to help with Homecoming prep-"
Peter walked to Liz, only to see her kissing a taller, more athletic looking man.
"Oh, hey Pete! This is Hobie Brown, my boyfriend." Said Liz, enthusiastically.
"Oh. Hi there." Said Peter.
"Hi, Peter. Liz tells me you're a genius."
Peter could only say a "huh-huh" as he walked away and towards class.
Harry and Gwen quickly came to Peter's side.
Gwen was the first to speak up. "I'm so sorry, Pete. I'm really-"
"No, Gwen. Don't be sorry. There's no point feeling sorry for Peter Parker anymore…" Said Peter, with a heavy sigh, as he walked on.
Everything was falling apart. Harry in danger, New York in danger, Jameson always shitting on him, Liz getting a boyfriend and Aunt May not being able to pay the bills.
"No, I can't thing about all of that right now. I need to focus on taking down Fisk and Owlsley, once and for all." Thought Peter.
Harry caught up with Peter. "Peter listen, you shouldn't blow off Gwen. She's just trying to be there for you." He said.
"Harry, look. I don't have time for you guys right now."
"What do you mean you have no time for us? What are you so busy doing?" Bombarded Harry.
"STUFF OKAY! AUNT MAY CAN'T PAY THE BILLS, JAMESON GIVES ME A LOUSY-ASS PAY, AND LIZ IS WITH SOMEONE ELSE! AND YOU EXPECT ME TO BE ALL HAPPY-GO-LUCKY RIGHT NOW?! WELL THEN LET'S ALL HOLD HANDS AND FIND THE POT OF GOLD AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW, HUH?!" Shouted Peter.
Everyone in the hallway was staring at him and Harry, including Dr Octavius.
"Peter. What the hell?" Asked Harry, completely taken aback.
"Peter. My office, now." Said Otto.
Liz just stared at Peter as he walked to Dr Octavius' office.
"Sit down, Peter." Said Otto.
"Look, Dr Octavius, I didn't mean to cause a disturbance. I'm sorry." Said Peter, trying to explain himself.
"While that was unethical, I've seen worse in the hallways. What I did want to tell you, however, is that Dr Connors wanted to offer you a job of sorts at his lab. A summer internship."
"Really? No way!" Said Peter, instantly becoming enthusiastic.
"I'm glad you're happy now, Peter. Now, I'd appreciate if you go an apologize to your friends. After all, Homecoming is in a few days." Chuckled Otto.
Spider-Man met Daredevil on the rooftop.
"So, what's your idea now?" Asked Spider-Man.
"The gang war is escalating. Soon enough, it's gonna explode. Here's the plan: You go after The Frightful Four and The Kingpin, and I go after The Owl and The Hand." Said Daredevil.
"Got it. When do we start?" Asked Spider-Man.
Daredevil took a deep breath.
"We just did."
Chapter 11
Homecoming was tomorrow. The school was in utter chaos for preparation, as Liz organized everything. Harry, Gwen, Hobie and Flash were all running helter-skelter in order to put the banner up. Carl was there just to eat, while other students put up balloons and other decorations.
The only student missing, was Peter Parker.
"I wonder where Peter has gone off to? He always seems to be disappearing like this." Said Gwen.
"He just has a lot on his plate, especially after yesterday's meltdown. I'm sure glad the school forgot about that." Replied Harry.
"Figures. I was going to ask him if he was going to go to Homecoming with me. Guess I'm all out of luck." Sighed Gwen.
"Hey, don't look so down, Gwen. I'm sure someone will ask you out." Said Hobie, trying to cheer her up.
"Yeah. As much as I hate to admit it, I do feel bad for Parker." Admitted Flash.
"Wow. Now that's something I never thought I'd hear the great Flash Thompson say!" Chuckled Harry.
As all the other students were preparing for Homecoming that evening, Peter was watching them from the skylight above the gymnasium. He sighed as he saw Liz with Hobie, and put on his mask.
"Hobie's a great guy, but c'mon!" Sighed Peter, as he put on his mask and swung away.
"Goddamnit Fisk! How do I take you down?" Thought Peter, as he called up Captain Stacy.
"Spider-Man? What's wrong?"
"The gang war is escalating. I need to put Fisk away before it threatens all of New York. He basically owns half of the police force, so how do I get him arrested?" Asked Peter.
"You're gonna need hard evidence. Evidence that cannot be explained by his lawyers." Replied George. "And there's only one place you can get that."
"Fisk Tower. Well, looks like I'm headed for the belly of the beast! Hopefully, the belly is as big as Fisk's." Joked Spider-Man.
George chuckled and hung up. Spider-Man decided to call Daredevil and see what he was doing.
"Matt, I'm headed to Fisk Tower to get evidence to expose him. Where are you?"
"Peter. I'm heading to Chinatown. A restaurant called The Red Lantern is a front for The Hand. I'll call you once I'm done with them." Said Matt, as he cut the call and went through the top window of the restaurant, which was completely empty.
"Okay, but I'm sending a friend there just in case. You can trust him." Said Peter, as he cut the call.
Tables and chairs were arranged normally, with red lanterns hanging from the ceiling.
That's when Daredevil's Radar Sense went crazy, as he recognized a familiar sound. The sound of a Sai cutting through the air. Daredevil quickly moved to the side as the silent ninja's Sai missed Daredevil. Matt grabbed the arm of the ninja and slammed it to the table, breaking it, as the ninja yelled in pain.
"Where's Owlsley?" Asked Daredevil. "You've got 204 more bones which I can break. Now tell me where is he!" He threatened.
"Downstairs! But there's more like me!" Protested the ninja.
"I'm counting on it." Said Matt, as he slammed the ninja's head to the table, then made his way down to the basement.
Five more ninjas came, but Daredevil managed to take them all down with a series of kicks and flips. Soon enough, all 5 of them were groaning on the floor in pain, and Daredevil hadn't even broken a sweat.
Down in the basement, everything was silent. Matt couldn't hear a thing. But, he was able to smell gasoline. A lot of it.
That's when Matt finally heard something: A spark of fire.
Before he knew it, he was surrounded by flames, and he heard a heartbeat. A person was standing in front of him.
"Your time is over." Said the person.
Matt's eyes went wide. "Elektra?"
"I'm sorry for what I am about to do, but it has to be done for The Hand!" Shouted Elektra, as she stabbed Matt in the leg.
Daredevil groaned by the pain. He was overwhelmed by the sound of the fire, and since all of his senses were heightened, the warmth from the fire was making his hot, and gave him a burning sensation.
Elektra kicked him down. "You will pay for joining The Chaste!" Said Elektra, as she brought down her Sai on Daredevil's chest. However, Matt kicked the Sai out of her hand and into the fire.
He stood up. "Elektra please, snap out of it! It's me, Matt!" Pleaded Daredevil.
Elektra stopped for a second. "Who?" She asked.
"Matt Murdock! We were both trained by Stick, we fought crime and then The Owl killed you! Please remember, Elektra!" Continued Daredevil.
Elektra hesitated for a second, then took out a smoke pellet, and threw it on the ground. She vanished, leaving Matt in the smoke and fire.
Daredevil managed to make it out of the restaurant, gasping for air as he fell to the ground. Luckily, Spider-Man had sent a friend to help: George Stacy.
George quickly rushed to Daredevil's side and helped him up. "Are you okay?" He asked.
"It was a trap. Owlsley knew we were coming. Did Spider-Man send you?" Asked Daredevil.
"Yeah. He's headed to Fisk Tower to gather evidence on Kingpin." Replied George.
"Shit! He's in danger!" Exclaimed Matt, as he rushed away.
Spider-Man slowly crawled through the window of Fisk Tower, and to the main server room.
"Voila! The server room should have all of the evidence I need to put Fisk away." Said Spider-Man, as he approached the huge computer and inserted a pen drive, copying all of the criminal data in the server.
"Perfect, now to-"
Before Spider-Man could even complete his thought, he was swept into a wall by a huge wave of sand.
"Oh Jesus Christ, can't you give me a freaking break?!" Shouted Spider-Man, as Sandman and Vulture stood before him.
"Let's show this bug what it means to mess with The Kingpin!" Said Sandman, as he aimed a cannonball of sand at Spider-Man, who dodged at the right time.
"THAT'S IT!" Shouted Vulture, as he swooped towards Spider-Man, grabbed him and went through the glass building, out into the air.
"I've had enough of you!" Yelled Vulture, as he slammed Spider-Man's face to a wall, but this time Peter was ready. He grabbed Vulture's talons and pulled at them, causing Vulture to yelp in pain, and let go as Spider-Man fell to the streets below.
In the nick of time, Peter shot a web at a building and swung away, barely missing the street below.
However, he swung straight into a wall of sand, as Sandman grabbed his legs and threw him into a lamppost.
Just as Sandman was about to hit Peter, he backflipped out of the way. Spider-Man shot two webs, and they went through Sandman.
"That won't hurt me, freak!" Taunted Sandman
"I wasn't trying to!" Replied Spider-Man. The webs which went through Sandman attached to another lamppost, and Peter pulled them down, straight onto Sandman's head.
"Ungfff!" Said Sandman, as he fell to the ground.
That's when Vulture came swooping, aiming all of his metal feather-knives towards Spider-Man.
In an instant, all of the metal feathers from Vulture's wings were being aimed at Spider-Man, who managed to dodge most of them. He webbed up two of them, and swung them back at Vulture, hitting Adrian's wings.
"AAGH!" Shouted Vulture.
Sandman got up and aimed a barrage of Sandballs towards Spider-Man, who jumped out of the way.
All of the sandballs hit Vulture, who went flying into a car.
"You'll pay for this, you little shit!" Yelled Sandman, as he turned himself into a huge boulder of sand and raced towards Spider-Man.
"Oh shit!" Said Peter, as the ball hit him, and he went barrelling down the street.
Vulture got back up. "This is the end for you, Spider-Man!" He exclaimed, swooping straight towards him. However, Spider-Man jumped above Toomes and landed on his harness. Peter shot two webs, at Vulture's wings, and began to steer him, right towards Sandman at an insanely high speed.
"What are you doing?!" Blurted out Vulture.
"Sandies and old men, fasten your seatbelts!" Exclaimed Spider-Man, as he steered Vulture straight towards Sandman. Peter jumped off just at the right time as Vulture crashed into Sandman's face, knocking both of them out of the fight.
Daredevil landed next to Spider-Man. "It was a trap. I'm glad you were able to take those two down, though." He said.
Spider-Man chuckled. "Nice try, but that trick isn't gonna work again, Chameleon!"
Spider-Man shot a web at Daredevil's mask and pulled it down, revealing Chameleon's white mask.
All of a sudden, Shocker appeared out of nowhere and vibro-blasted Spider-Man with the biggest shockwave he had ever created.
Spider-Man was hurled straight to Central Park, and into a tree.
"Unhhh…goddamnit…" Groaned Peter, as he got back up to his feet.
Chameleon kicked Peter back into the tree. Peter tried to dodge, but Chameleon used the web shooters that he stole from Spider-Man in their last encounter to push him back to the ground. Shocker vibro-punched him down.
Spider-Man kicked Chameleon's knees and got back up. Then, jumped over Shocker, and kicked him away.
Chameleon swung over to Spider-Man and shot a web, but Spider-Man jumped out of the way, grabbed the web and pulled it towards him, kicking Chameleon in the face.
Shocker blasted another shockwave, but this time Peter moved out of the way and it hit Chameleon, knocking him out.
"Huh?! Oh shi-"
Spider-Man kicked Shocker in the face, cracking his helmet into two. He then brutally pulled the gauntlets off of Shocker, and delivered a devastating blow to his face, knocking out Herman.
"Bet you're shocked I was able to beat you, huh? Oh man, I think you cracked all of my ribs!" Chuckled Spider-Man.
That's when the real Daredevil showed up, and saw Chameleon lying unconscious wearing Matt's suit.
"He's got to stop impersonating me." Said Daredevil.
"Good news is, The Frightful Four are down for the count. Bad news is, Fisk is nowhere to be found." Said Peter.
"Same thing with Owl. We need to find them quick. Thanks for sending Captain Stacy to help." Said Daredevil.
"Thanks." Said Peter. That's when his phone started to ring. Gwen was calling him.
"Oh, I have to take this. I'll see you tomorrow." Said Peter, as he swung away.
"Hey Gwen, what's up?" Asked Peter.
"Hey Pete, I sorta had to ask you a question." She said, nervously.
"Sure, what's up?"
"I was kinda hoping you'd like… to be my date for Homecoming tomorrow." Said Gwen.
Harry was right next to Gwen, and he was jumping with excitement.
"Oh, yeah sure!" Said Peter. Never in a gazillion years did Peter think Gwen would ever ask him out.
"Cool! I'll see you tomorrow at 7?"
"Yep, sure!" Said Peter, enthusiastically.
Gwen hung up the call as Harry was squealing with excitement.
"Yes! Anyways, Harry. Who are you going for Homecoming with?" Asked Gwen.
"Believe it or not, Aunt May knew that you liked Peter and she certainly knew that Peter was gonna say yes to you. So, she actually found me a girl." Explained Harry.
"Aunt May found you a girl? What's her name?" Prodded Gwen.
"Apparently she's one of Aunt May's friend's niece. Mary Jane Watson."
Chapter 12: Homecoming
"Stromm, is the Globulin Green ready?" Asked Norman, hesitantly. Him and fellow scientist Mendel Stromm were in the Oscorp lab in The Bronx, perfecting the Globulin Green formula.
"Norman, I still feel this is dangerous. What happened last time-"
"Won't happen again. Trust me, Mendel." Said Norman.
"In that case, the formula will be perfected by tonight. Will you be here?" Asked Mendel.
"I have to drive my son to that Homecoming of his tonight, but I'll be here." Said Norman. "Ready to see my greatest creation come to fruition." Said Norman.
Fisk sat in his tower, planning his attack on Owlsley and The Hand. After The Frightful Four was arrested, he had no protection. Luckily, he had a contingency plan in place in case if Spider-Man and Daredevil interfered in his plans.
He called one of his men.
"Are they in place?"
"Yes boss. All 12 of them."
"Perfect. Tonight, we end this war." Said Fisk.
All of a sudden, cops kicked down Fisk's door and approached Fisk with handcuffs, led by Captain Stacy.
"Wilson Fisk, you're under arrest. We have damning evidence linking you to the acts of The Frightful Four, and the breakout at Ryker's." Said George, as the cops slapped the handcuffs on him and escorted him out.
"Captain. You're making a big mistake."
"We'll see about that." Replied George, holding the pen drive which Spider-Man had given him last night, which had all of the evidence needed to put The Kingpin away.
When Fisk was taken away and the cops left, Spider-Man came swinging in to meet George, who had stayed back.
"Well, that's The Kingpin taken away. Now for The Owl." Said Spider-Man.
"I'm hoping Daredevil is on it." Said George.
"We are. Only problem is, he runs an army of ninjas."
"You can deal with it, right?"
"Of course. But for now, it's time I take a break." Said Spider-Man, as he flipped out of the window and swung away."
Peter went home to meet Aunt May
"Peter! Ready for tonight? I've got your tux ready." Said May.
"Thanks May. I'll be at Gwen's by 7."
Aunt May asked Peter to sit on the couch.
"You just remind me so much of Ben. How enthusiastic he was on our first date, the beautiful tux he wore to prom, and just how hopeful he was. I miss Ben." Sighed May, her eyes welling up.
"I know, I miss him too. But, he wouldn't want us to think about what happened in the past. He would want us to live life as it is, enjoying every aspect of it, all while remembering how he made us so happy." Reassured Peter.
"Thanks Peter. You really are the brightest part of my life. Oh, by the way, I found a girl for Harry!" Said Aunt May.
"You did? Who?" Asked Peter, inquisitively.
"One of my friends, Anna, has a niece. Mary Jane Watson."
"Oh my god, you set him up with that girl you've wanted me to meet for the past 3 months?" Laughed Peter.
"I figured since you're going with Gwen, might as well help Harry for a bit." Chuckled May.
"Okay, I'll see you later!" Said Peter, as he headed up to his room.
Peter headed to his room and quickly called Matt.
"Matt, what's up?"
"Just heard that Kingpin got arrested. Nice work."
"Thanks, but The Owl is still out there. Work is still undone." Said Peter.
"You have your special night today. Take a day off."
"Thanks Matt." Said Peter, as he cut the call.
The night had finally come. Homecoming was in an hour, and Peter had to go to Gwen's. Her dad would be dropping them off at school, where Harry and Mary Jane would be waiting.
"You ready?" Asked May, as she drove Peter to Gwen's house.
"As ready as I ever will be, I guess." Said Peter, as he got out of the car and approached Gwen's door. Her house was significantly bigger and nicer than his. With trembling fingers, Peter rang the bell, as Captain Stacy opened the door.
"Peter! Great to see you again. Very smart tux!" Remarked George. Gwen appeared behind him, wearing a beautiful blue dress.
"Hey Pete!" She said.
"Hey. You look really nice." Said Peter, who was at a loss for words.
George invited him in, as Gwen's mother, Helen greeted him.
"Peter! You've grown a lot since I last saw you, and muscular too!" She said.
Peter smiled shyly, as Gwen chuckled and blushed.
That's when George got a call.
"Captain Stacy here. He's being moved now? Oh okay, I'll be there in 15 minutes." Said George, over the phone.
"Kids, we should leave for Homecoming now, I just got a call from the precinct."
"What's wrong?" Asked Peter, sounding curious, but not too curious.
"Well, if you must know, The Kingpin of Crime: Wilson Fisk, is being moved to Ryker's right now."
"Oh. Okay." Replied Peter, a little confused as to why he would be moved so early, when he was just arrested earlier that day.
That's when Peter realized: Fisk owned half of the corrupt police in the force.
Peter was ready to tell Captain Stacy, but George and Gwen were already at the car. Peter quickly texted Matt the issue, and joined Gwen and George.
"So Peter, what do you like to do when you're free at home?" Asked George.
"Oh, I uh… love reading! Yeah, especially those novels by Nikola Tesla." Replied Peter, who couldn't tell him that he spent his time fighting crime.
"That's great! I can see why Gwen is so fond of you!" Laughed George.
"Dad!" Protested Gwen, before joining in on the laughter himself.
Peter checked his phone and saw that Matt hadn't responded back.
"Well, here we are kids! Have a great time." Said George.
"Mr Stacy, wait. I…uh…need to tell you something." Said Peter.
"Okay…Gwen, why don't you join Harry and the others!" Said George.
"Okay, but make it quick, Peter!" Said Gwen, as she entered the school.
Now it was only Peter and George in the car.
"So, what was it you wanted to talk about?" Asked George.
"You said The Kingpin was being moved early right? But what if he's bribed those cops, and they're driving him elsewhere?" Suggested Peter.
"Oh my god. Wait, how do you know so much about this?" Asked George.
Peter hesitated. "Because I'm Spider-Man." Said Peter, shaking nervously.
George's eyes widened. "Oh."
"Well, I don't know how I feel about my daughter dating Spider-Man." Chuckled George.
"You're not gonna arrest me or anything? Or like, ban me from seeing Gwen ever again?" Asked Peter, confused.
"Kid, you've been through a lot, even before you wore the mask. As Spider-Man, you've nearly died so many times. You have put your life on the line so many times to help others. Any other person would have quit the first time they got beat up. But you somehow take those punches, and hit harder. That just proves to me, that you're not just doing this for fame and attention, you're doing this because you truly care about this city. Now you tell me, how can I arrest a person like that?" Asked George.
Peter smiled. "Thank you, Captain Stacy." He said, as he walked out of the car, and George drove to the convoy that was carrying Fisk.
Peter walked into the gymnasium, and saw Harry, Gwen, Flash, Hobie and Liz, along with another beautiful red haired girl.
"Oh Peter! This is Mary Jane Watson." Said Harry, introducing Peter to the red haired girl.
"Call me MJ." She said to Peter.
The group kept talking about what a great couple Peter and Gwen make, but something was bugging Peter. Something in the back of his neck.
That's when he got a call from Matt.
"Daredevil?" Asked Peter.
"Spider-Man. Hello there." Said Fisk.
"Fisk?! What have you done with Daredevil?" Asked Peter.
"He's fine, and so is Captain Stacy. If you want them alive though, I need you to do me one favour. Don't interfere in my business tonight."
"I will stop you."
"And in the process, Daredevil and Stacy will die painful, excruciating deaths. I can assure you that much." Said Fisk. "Look the other way, just this once." He said, and he cut the call.
Peter put his phone in his pocket, as he stared around him. The music seemed to dim out, and he could hear his heart beating. He saw his friends all dancing together. He saw Gwen, and wondered how she'd feel if he ditched her. This was the night he had been waiting for the past 15 years. The aura was magical, and he was tempted to stay.
The music came back. He was back in the party, with voices all around him, seemingly trying to distract him from the situation he was in, tempting him to stay with his friends.
Then he remembered what happened the last time he ignored his responsibilities. What happened to Uncle Ben. What happened the last time he looked away.
Peter clenched his fists.
"I'll never look the other way again." He said, as he rushed out of the door of the gymnasium, leaving his friends, and most importantly, leaving Gwen.
Fisk stared out of his window in Fisk Tower. "This is the day." Said Fisk.
Daredevil and Captain Stacy were tied up to chairs in the office.
"Stacy. You seriously thought you could arrest me? Even if you had the evidence, you didn't even think for once that I was prepared? Pathetic?" Mocked Fisk.
"When Spider-Man gets here, he's gonna kick your sorry ass." Said Daredevil.
"And look at you! The dreaded Devil of Hell's Kitchen, tied up to a chair. I could take off your mask right now, but I just don't care enough." Said Fisk.
All of a sudden, the door was kicked down, as The Owl stood in the doorway.
"Owlsley. Where are your ninjas?" Taunted Fisk.
"I don't need anyone else to kill you." Said Owl, as he extended three talons from each hand,.
"Very well." Said Fisk, as he rushed at The Owl.
Both started throwing punches randomly at each other, hoping to hit the other, until Fisk grabbed Owl, and slammed him into the wall.
Owl stabbed Fisk in the back, but that barely had any effect on Fisk, as he slammed Owl down onto the table, completely destroying it.
That's when Leland stabbed Fisk in the stomach, and his leg.
"AAAAGHHH!" Yelled Fisk, as Leland repeatedly stabbed him. However, Fisk grabbed three Owl's fingers, including the talons, and snapped them back!
Leland yelled in pain, as Fisk grabbed him, and threw him out of the window, down to the streets below.
"NEW YORK IS MINE!" Shouted Fisk, as he turned from the window.
"I don't think so, Stay-Puft!" Shouted a voice, as Spider-Man came in crashing through the window with Owl's unconscious body, and kicked Fisk in the face.
Behind Peter, another person jumped in. Elektra.
"Matt! I remember everything now." She said, as she freed both him and Stacy.
"You do?" Asked Matt, surprised.
"I went to The Chaste, they helped me remember that The Hand had killed me." Explained Elektra.
Matt smiled. All of a sudden, Leland started laughing.
"What's so funny?" Asked Peter, who was fighting Fisk.
"You were wondering where all of my men were Fisk? Well…" Replied Owl.
All of a sudden, an explosion rocked the tower, and then George noticed something.
"Guys!" He yelled.
On the street, about 70 Hand ninjas were rushing through, attacking anyone they could see.
"Matt, Elektra. Deal with The Hand ninjas. Captain Stacy, evacuate other streets and get every cop on the scene! I'll deal with Michelin Man here!" Said Peter.
Daredevil and Elektra nodded as they jumped out of the building, carrying Captain Stacy, as they rappelled down carefully.
"I gave you a choice. You should have taken it!" Shouted Fisk as he lunged at Spider-Man ad slammed him to the ground, pummelling his face in.
"And you still haven't taken that breath mint!" Retorted Spider-Man, as he web-kicked Fisk out of the doorway, and into the hall. When Spider-Man started to deliver a flurry of kicks and punches to Fisk, he grabbed Spider-Man's leg and threw him across the length of the hall. Them, Fisk choked him and threw him down the emergency stairs.
"This city is mine!" Shouted Fisk, as he punched Spider-Man again and kicked him down further. But, this time, Spider-Man slid under Fisk's legs with a web, then he pulled the web, causing Fisk to trip and then tumble down the stairs. Spider-Man then tried to swing kick him, but Fisk grabbed him and threw him off of the stairs. Luckily, Spider-Man landed three floors down.
He stumbled into the hallway of that floor, as Fisk bust through as well and brought his boot down on Spider-Man's back.
Meanwhile, Daredevil and Elektra were trying their best to fight the horde of ninjas, but they seemed to be endless, and Captain Stacy quickly drove to his precinct.
George rushed inside the precinct to tell his cops, only to see five of his most trustworthy cop aiming their guns at him, with other cops being held hostage.
"Sorry Captain, Kingpin's orders." Said one of the cops, smirking.
"ALL OF YOUR ALLIES ARE GOING TO DIE! I'VE RUN THIS CITY FOR SO LONG! I AM THE KINGPIN! WHAT ARE YOU?" Shouted Fisk at the top of his lungs, his boot pressed on Spider-Man's back.
Peter clenched his fists.
"I am Spider-Man." He said, as he got up and webbed Fisk's face up. Then he pushed his boot off of him and pulled him down.
"AAAGH!" Yelled Fisk.
Spider-Man quickly webbed up Fisk temporarily. "I'll be back soon, stay put!" Said Spider-Man, as he jumped out of the building and swung towards the police precinct.
George was still being held at gunpoint, until Spider-Man came swinging in and kicked one corrupt cop in the face, before disarming the other four.
"You okay?" Asked Spider-Man.
"You look worse than me, where's Fisk?" Asked Stacy.
"I webbed him up. I'll go back for him later. Right now, you need to bring all your cops out to evacuate the city blocks where Hand ninjas are." Said Peter, as he swung back on the street to assist Daredevil and Elektra. He swing kicked a few and then punched out a couple.
"You guys got this?" Asked Peter.
"We got this, Spider-Man. Go!" Exclaimed Elektra, as Peter swung away back to Fisk Tower.
Fisk had returned to his office on the top floor to get a gun. Hence, when Spider-Man returned, Fisk shot him in the leg.
"AAAAGHHHH!" Yelled Spider-Man in the pain, as Fisk headbutted him, cracking his left eye lenses. Fisk brutally tore off pieces of Spider-Man's mask, but Peter kicked him away with his good leg.
"You little shit!" Shouted Fisk, but Peter webbed up his face and kicked him down, knocking him out.
Peter rushed to the huge window to look down at the street, and saw cops helping Daredevil and Elektra fight the ninjas, as the army dissipated.
That's when Fisk tried to kick Spider-Man out of the window, however, thanks to Spider-Sense, Spider-Man dodged and Fisk fell out of the window.
Luckily, Spider-Man caught him just in time, and held him high above the streets from his white collar, as a helicopter shined a spotlight on them.
"It's over Fisk. New York will never be under your control." Said Spider-Man, as he threw Fisk back inside the office, next to Owl's unconscious body. "You lost, Kingpin." He said.
But Fisk, started to laugh. "Spider-Man. I always have contingencies! I planted twelve bombs across New York. Anytime now, they're gonna go off!" Laughed Fisk.
Just as he said that, an explosion rocked the city, and then another, and many more! As policemen rushed into the office to arrest an unconscious Owl and a laughing Kingpin, Spider-Man swung to the top of Fisk Tower. Only to see smoke billowing from a few parts of the cities, most notably The Brooklyn Bridge, The Oscorp Lab in The Bronx, Times Square, and a section of Queens.
"Oh god, one blew up in Queens. AUNT MAY!" Shouted Peter.
