The next level after being born knowing is learning to know. However, learning to know is also an impressive level, as at least these people are actively seeking the truth of the world. Those who think of learning only when in a predicament, in Confucius' view, belong to the third echelon.
Of course, to Confucius, the worst situation is to be in distress and yet still not think of learning; such people are beyond saving.
In the eyes of later generations, Confucius is a sage, but Confucius himself is self-aware. He believed he was not born knowing, but merely loved learning.
Yet Confucius believed there were indeed people born knowing in the world.
But in the world, there are also those who know of their birth!
