When Hansen Ruiz returned from meeting Rachel's family, his car's back seat was stuffed full. Of the gifts he had brought for the Bailey Family, only the two bottles of wine they opened and drank were consumed; all the rest were shoved back into his car. In addition, there were the gifts the Bailey Family had given him: food, clothes, household items, and even toys. It was as if they regarded him as a recycling center, stuffing anything and everything into his car.
The only things the Bailey Family kept were the flowers and the fishing gear.
Hansen Ruiz believed he was quite formidable, thinking he could persuade the Bailey Family to accept his gifts, but Mr. Bailey was even more so. After a lengthy session of polite refusals and insistent offers, he finally resigned himself to loading the gifts back into his car.
By six in the evening, the two of them finally made it back to the bustling and lively City District of T City.
