Lucille Matthias gently nodded, smoothed her hair, and walked out of the cell.
Step by step, she traversed the corridor. Rounding a corner, she spotted Kris Cooper being dragged by several people.
"Bastards... let go of me... let go..."
Upon seeing Vera Wave in the corridor, Kris Cooper stopped struggling.
As the men turned to look at her, Christopher Cooper and Bailey Hansen promptly released Kris Cooper.
Rushing forward to the bars, Kris Cooper gazed at Vera Wave inside the gate.
"Vera..." His amber eyes softened from indignation. "You were joking with me, weren't you?"
Vera Wave looked through the barred gate at the man, whose suit and shirt were rumpled. She took a slow breath and stopped just two steps away from him.
"Kris, I'm sorry."
The smile on Kris Cooper's face gradually stiffened, his eyes filling with disappointment.
"Why?" he asked in a hoarse voice.
Vera Wave hesitated for a long time before speaking softly, "I'm tired!"
