The palace had grown quiet by the time the moon climbed high above Nacrifa.
Most of the torches in the outer courtyards had burned low, their flames flickering softly in the night breeze. Guards still walked their routes along the walls and corridors, their armor clinking faintly with every step, but the lively noise of the day had disappeared.
Night gave the palace a different personality.
Calmer.
Darker.
And much easier for someone unseen to move through.
High above the palace courtyard, perched on the edge of a stone tower, a lone figure sat comfortably with one leg dangling over the side.
The Prince of Darkness looked very relaxed for someone who had just trespassed into the most heavily guarded place in the kingdom.
His black coat moved slightly in the wind as he gazed down at the palace roofs below him.
For a long moment, he said nothing.
Then he chuckled softly to himself.
"Well," he murmured.
"That was entertaining."
