Chapter 112 - Training as a Slime (109)

Fear has a power, a grip over the unknown. And whatever the unknowable was gifted the title of the God of the Gaps. In the slumber of a cavern, the God of Fear held the reign of a Goddess. The golden chain shackled around her neck, her wrist, and bound her legs.

The God with ebony hair was neither her master nor was the youthful goddess enslaved. For they both act in unison. During moments of fear, the beings of this world would cower and pray for God to help them pull through all odds. And when their calls are unanswered, the God of Fear enslave them.

But from time to time, a brave slime or two will break through their bottlenecks and find the courage to overcome the fear. But in the ancient past, during the battle with the mother tree, both the God and Goddess appeared in their ethereal form, bestowing and enslaving the slimes with blessings and curses.

To this day, a few families bear the cursed fate, while others enjoy the fortunes the blessings bring. Frowning at the trembling elf before him, the God of Fear curiously cast a glance. The elf reached his hand towards the Goddess - God of Gaps - who appeared as a bright tunnel of light.

"I don't want to die..." he muttered, a letter clenched in his hand.

As the Goddess reached out to the elf, the lean God in black satin cloak carved the soul from the elf and cast it into the nether world. A convenient portal setup by the administration committee of the afterlife, a service by Truck-Kun affiliated.

"Gabby, elves are troublesome."

"Fiero, the letter is from Santa. Surely, the elf deserved to stay alive."

"Old friends might be our new enemies," the God scoffed.

"Oo tiny Fiero scared of a tiny organization," the Goddess giggled.

The God of Fear traced her soft neck with his index finger and pulled her chin close to his.

He forced his supple red lips on her pink, petal-like lips.

With a knowing smile, he looked at his blushing Goddess. Her golden locks and innocent face hide her manipulative nature.

"Fine."

The letter unfurled itself in the air.

"Dearest Gentle Gods and Goddesses

The new entry of slimes had enrolled with a fair number of reincarnates and spirited-aways.

There are also numerous who had met their fortunate demise.

Their souls have been recycled through the straits of the Netherworld, and what remains are their cores.

You're humbly invited to collect these purified cores from the Goddess of Gaps this coming An Domhnach.

Yours Truly

Santa Claus of EO."

"Another troublesome task, tsk." Fiero frowned.

Ever since the great battle, these two God and Goddess had not stopped working. The Santas had been working them to the bone, making full use of their capabilities.

And just when they had some time to themselves, wanting to reward themselves with some alone time, the elf teleported into their cavern.

"If only fear was not immune on him! I would have!" Fiero continued with fire in his pupils.

The Goddess stroked his chest, and laid her head on his heart to calm him down.

"We can always have a baby another time. Besides, thanks to them, we were able to shed our human forms and enjoy immortality, power, and wealth."

As soon as she finished the sentence, 100 barrels of cores were teleported into their chamber.

The Goddess clenched her teeth and shouted, "Enough! This is too much!"

A barrel that was about to pass through the portal was immediately retracted.

"I think they heard you Gabby," the God of Fear looked at her cute, fuming face with hamster-like cheeks.

A thud was heard behind them. They turned and saw an extra-large barrel of cores with two words written on it - "Your commission".

The 2 Gods cried in unison. Despite their status, they were just lowly workers to the Santas. Whatever happened to the alliance? After all the fluff, was the talk of glory, and a comfortable future just a rose-tinted dream sold by them?

The 2 Gods could not help but feel cheated.

A small jelly-like corgi started to lick the God of Fear.

"What is this?" The God levitated the tiny dog.

"Isn't this a trace of primordial holy energy?" the Goddess asked.

"How could this be? Shall we eat it?" the God of Fear asked.

Seeing how the corgi did not tremble in front of them even once, and wagged its energetic tail even more enthusiastically. The Goddess smiled and said, "Shall we just keep it? It isn't afraid of us and even showed affection towards us. Keeping it alive will be quite entertaining since it has divine nature."

The God of Fear laughed and felt amused, "Well, this is refreshing. I look forward to meeting this new batch of enlistees and scare them hahaha."

"This will keep us entertained for a while...shall we name him?" She asked.

"Well, it does resemble our Corgi on Earth, but if we do name him, we will be sad when he is gone. Are you sure you want to invite God of sadness?"

"Then we shall name him ' '." The Goddess of Gaps said.

"And when he passes, his primordial power will become part of you. You cheeky Goddess."

The Goddess in shackles give a cheeky smile and buries her head into Fiero's warm chest.

"Just a nano second more..." she moaned.

"Just a nano second..." said the God of Fear as he dived underneath the blankets with the Goddess in chains.

Merely symbolic chains...
