(Avenger's Tower, New York)
I stared him in the eye.
He stared back into mine.
He raised an eyebrow.
My soul left my body.
"Director! Nick! Nicholas, even!" I panickily let out, taken aback by his presence in our living room.
"Do not call me that." He said, his voice stern as ever.
"Understood." I really didn't wanna risk pissing off someone who could freeze my bank account with one call.
"What brings you to our neck of the woods?" I questioned.
If he had business with the Avengers, he would have been on the upper floor, where they live. The fact that he was down on our floor was not a good sign.
"I'm here to tie up a few loose ends on the contracts for the new team. Spiderwoman decided she needed a few days to look it over. She's smarter than the rest of you, at least. Now that I was done with that, I was about to head out."
"Oh great! Well, don't let me stop you, and have a safe flight back to the Helicarrier!"
As I finished my sentence, I quickly walked past him, trying to get away. Before I could, however, I felt his hand grab my shoulder.
"You know, while I have you here, there is something you could do for me."
"...There is?"
"Yes, yes there is."
...Fuck.
15 minutes later, I was back in my room. The man just shows up and dumps work on my shoulders. Goddamn it. Well, at least I'm free for the day. The 'assignment' can wait till tomorrow.
I changed my clothes to something comfier, and set up my game console and monitor. The room was looking good. I had to bring Lucy over, as well. My neighbor was currently taking care of her, but i missed my girl.
I checked my phone, and sure enough, Gwen had texted me about starting the movie night.
I walked over to her room and knocked on the door.
"Come in" her voice came from across the door.
I opened the door slowly, and took in the room.
It was similar to mine, yet different. White floors and grey cabinets, just like mine. Same general layout as mine. But posters of various rock bands, warm yellow lamps and a large 50 inch tv made it rather distinct from mine.
"I like what you've done with the place." I said, walking in.
Her head popped out of the bedroom as she heard my voice.
"You think? I'm still tryna make it feel more like home."
I walked over and saw her shifting some boxes around in her bedroom, still moving in apparrently.
"Oh yeah, definitely. Although, immediately blowing your first month's salary on a 50 inch was a bold move."
"Gotta have a tv for movie night, right?" She said, putting down the last box and walking into the main room.
"True that. So, is the rest of the team coming, or just us?" I asked, sitting down on the dark grey couch facing the tv.
"Well, I invited them, but Laura is still at the X-men school, Viv went back to visit her parents, and Riri is working on her suit. So I guess it's just us." she said grabbing the remote and turning on the TV.
"Well, I took the liberty of ordering some pizza, so more for us, I guess." I answered, definitely happy. Because of the pizza, just to be clear. Nothing else.
"Perfect. So, any idea what movie we're gonna watch?" She asked, handing me the remote.
"Oh yeah."
(Two Hours Later)
"...Holy shit."
"Yep." I answered.
"Why the fuck would they stay there past the first day?"
"I genuinely don't know."
"I mean, they had to realize something was off after the hammer thing?"
"Apparently not."
We had just finished 2 entire pizzas, and the movie Midsommar. Horrifying watch. 10/10 would not recommend if you enjoy being sane.
I got up and grabbed the dirty paper plates, taking them to the garbage can and tossing them in.
"If you think that was bad, next time we're watching Hereditary." I said, chuckling.
"...what does that mean?" Gwen asked, clearly unnerved.
"Don't worry about it. So, did you like the movie?"
"I LOVED it." she replied, standing up and stretching.
"That's good, because that movie is weird enough to make even Fury raise an eyebrow." I said, throwing out the pizza boxes too.
"...Just raise an eyebrow?" She asked, stopped in her tracks.
"He's an international super-spy, what can ya do?" I responded, eliciting a chuckle from her.
"Alright, this has been fun, but we should head to bed. I have to wake up early tomorrow, and so do you." Gwen said, turning the TV off and walking over to me.
"Huh? Why?" I asked, not remembering any important plans for tomorrow.
"School." She answered, with what I could swear was joy out of anticipation for my despair.
"...Fuck".
(Avengers Tower, The Next Day, After School)
I walked out of the elevator alongside Gwen, my phone up to my ear as I spoke.
"Hill, you seriously couldn't think of any excuse for my absence other than HEMORRHOIDS?!"
"Fury told me to make an excuse, he didn't say it had to be a good one." She responded, stifling her laugh.
"Then choose to make a good one for MY SAKE!" I yelled, exasperated.
"Try to stay out of the hospital next time. Good luck." She said before hanging up on me. My social credit with the school staff is RUINED.
"What was that all about" Gwen said, clearly overhearing everything and trying not to laugh.
"...Nothing." I responded as I walked away.
As I walked away, Riri passed me, but not before saying something.
"Hey, heard about your hemorrhoids, tough luck."
I turned around to look at Gwen with the most betrayed face I could muster.
She simply shrugged her shoulders, laughed and walked off to her room.
I swear to god, this girl...
Ugh, assignment. I have to just get over it.
I walked back to my room, put on my Slingshot suit and walked back to the balcony. I dived off and began to swing my way towards the dock.
Time to begin my newest mission as the Huntsman.
