"You really don't know how hard Zhenzhen has it. That kid is too proud. She's out there working sales promos, standing for ten hours a day just to earn a hundred yuan. When I visited Jiangcheng this time, I felt so sorry for her. She can barely make ends meet on her own, let alone help anyone else—at least don't exploit her! Otherwise, when's she ever going to catch a break?"
Mei Yinan didn't say if she believed Grandpa Jiang's words or not, but it was clear she didn't believe him. Not only that, she felt Grandpa Jiang couldn't control Jiang Xiumei at all.
But old folks, the older they get, the softer their hearts grow. He really did imagine his own grandkid on his feet all day just to earn a bit of tuition and living expenses—not only taking crap from outsiders, scraping by on meals, but also getting screwed by family… sigh.
