Murong Yuanqing clapped his hands and said, "That seems to be the case. There is indeed very little record about the Upper Dantian. However, years ago, I read some ancient texts, and the 'Eastern Medical Book' cited: 'The Upper Dantian is the abode of the spirit.'
"I also remembered, the 'Immortal Scripture' says: 'The brain is the ocean of marrow, the Upper Dantian; the heart is the Scarlet Fire, the Middle Dantian; three inches below the navel is the Lower Dantian. The Lower Dantian is the abode of essence; the Middle Dantian, the abode of qi; the Upper Dantian, the abode of the spirit.' An elder responded: "We all only cultivate the Lower Dantian, but it seems the Upper Dantian is to cultivate the spirit!"
