Jiang Shi walked over to where the boy waited, her expression softening slightly as she looked down at him.
"What's your name?" she asked.
The boy swallowed hard, his voice barely a whisper. "L-Liu Chen, immortal fairy,"
"Liu Chen," Jiang Shi repeated. She knelt down so they were at eye level. "I'm sorry we couldn't save everyone. But I promise you this: what happened here today will not go unanswered."
The boy looked at her with eyes that had aged decades in a single day. He nodded slowly, not being able to utter a single word.
There were no emotions on his face and no expectations in his eyes.
What could he even muster? He had already lost everything he had once called "family." The man who did it was dead; there was no revenge to take.
These things no longer held any meaning to him.
For a little boy, such things were even more difficult to comprehend. He was at an age where he was still playing with his friends in mud and on farms.
But now even his friends were dead.
