And it came in.
It was in his Mind Space.
The stars were going out from the edges, the way they had in the cell. Long grey fingers were spreading across the dark, faster this time. It knew the way.
The little red light was very dim.
'Luna!'
'I can't.' Her voice was barely there. 'Lexie, I'm sorry. I told you. I can't do it twice.'
The fingers reached the table. They went past the three chairs. They went past the glass, round the red light, back into the dark, to the place where the colourless hole was waiting.
'THERE,' said the cold voice, everywhere at once. 'Show me. Show me what it is...'
Alex stood up.
He stood up in his own head, between the grey fingers and the dark. He had never stood up in there before. He'd always been sitting in a chair.
