The man outside the door seemed unprepared to encounter other people.
He looked at Gu Mian and the others emerging from the elevator, then at the person Gu Mian was carrying, who was radiating malevolence.
Understanding something, he put away the knife in his hand, took several steps back, and bowed deeply to Gu Mian and his group.
The man said nothing.
He remained bowed for several seconds, then silently straightened up and walked into the elevator.
Bai Lu watched as the elevator doors slowly closed, until the figure inside was no longer visible.
"He was expressing his gratitude to us. Since he couldn't thank the judge who presided over his case in person, he thanked us, fellow adjudicators, instead," Bai Lu mused. "Was he holding a knife because he intended to kill someone?"
She didn't know this man's story, but she knew it was a story for which a group of people would willingly dedicate themselves and make sacrifices.
