Pei Ye felt the gaze of Lu Yuque, but he did not turn around.
He looked up and waited, but there was still no sign of Chi Sheng, though the Black Cat arrived as expected shortly after.
These past days, Pei Ye's fate had been thin as paper, and the cat too was listless. As it flew over, it appeared like a small shadow, silently perched on the branch, watching the two.
Pei Ye rubbed its slightly curled fur and held its small body in his arms, scratching it gently.
No words were needed between them, even though they didn't converse much that day. They exchanged necessary information, hearts aligned, working toward a common goal even if apart.
Pei Ye thought, perhaps the cat wasn't his anchor, but it always lived aboard the ship.
"Please escort Miss Lu back first," Pei Ye said. "Lian Yupi seems immobile, with Bone Vein siblings and Nandu here. I'll rely on the sword and Mirage Realm to maneuver."
"What about the other Zhushi Sect members?"
