Chapter 304 - Justice League After

YOUTUBE VIDEO: JakeTalksComics

Title: "JUSTICE LEAGUE - INSTANT REACTION"

[The video begins with Jake walking toward his car in a parking lot at night. He's holding his phone, filming himself. His eyes are wide, still processing.]

JAKE: "Hey guys, it's Jake. I just watched Justice League, and I... I want to watch it again. Like, right now."

[He unlocks his car but doesn't get in yet. He leans against it.]

JAKE: "The movie was great. I just need to gather my thoughts for a moment because... okay, I might sound emotional, but this was the first time these characters came together on screen. And I had a similar feeling to when I watched The Avengers. Maybe... maybe even more, because I'm a bigger fan of DC than Marvel."

[He runs his hand through his hair, grinning.]

JAKE: "Seeing Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter all together... all of them interacting... especially Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. For me, like... I'm not gonna spoil anything, but they really nailed the Trinity vibe in this movie. It's everything I wanted."

[He pauses, collecting himself.]

JAKE: "Flash and Green Lantern were great. If I had to pick the weakest character for me not that he felt left out, but if I had to choose it would be Aquaman. He was still good! He just didn't get as much focus as the others."

JAKE: "And the way the movie brought them all together organically... we were all theorizing, right? Like, who would bring them together? Would it be Superman? Who would be the Nick Fury-like figure? But no. No"

[He stops himself, shaking his head.]

JAKE: "If I say more, it's gonna be spoilers, so I'll stop there."

[He smiles.]

JAKE: "Wonder Woman was the best in the movie the standout for me. She had this new theme, man, and it rocks. I felt like she and Superman held the team together. And this isn't really an Avengers-type dynamic, okay? The teams can easily be differentiated by how they came together and chose to stay together. And I think that's gonna be the major difference between the two cinematic universes."

[He opens his car door but turns back to the camera.]

JAKE: "I'm gonna go home and get started on the full review. The movie is spectacular. And Chapter 2 of the DCU is gonna be awesome, if the post-credits scenes are anything to go by..."

JAKE: "JakeTalksComics, signing off. See you soon."

Reviews

Deadline: "Justice League is a great movie that does something different with the ensemble superhero formula. Instead of relying solely on spectacle, it prioritizes character and emotional depth. The DCU has delivered another winner."

The Hollywood Reporter: "What sets Justice League apart is its commitment to making each hero matter. Henry Cavill's Superman grapples with responsibility and manipulation. Jensen Ackles brings gravitas and brilliance to Batman. Alexandra Daddario's Wonder Woman is fierce and compassionate. But it's Sterling K. Brown as Martian Manhunter who steals the show—his portrayal of a survivor carrying the weight of genocide is heartbreaking and powerful. The villain may be a bit of a letdown, but the heroes push the movie so far up that it doesn't matter."

Variety: "Justice League is a film that understands ensemble storytelling requires balance, not just spectacle. Every member of the team gets meaningful screen time and character development. The group dynamics and chemistry are the highlights of the movie, and its structure is very different from other recent ensemble superhero films—a refreshing change."

IGN (Score: 9.5/10):

"Justice League is a triumphant team-up that proves the DCU knows what it's doing. The action is phenomenal, the character dynamics are compelling, and Sterling K. Brown's Martian Manhunter is a revelation. The film stumbles occasionally with pacing in the second act, but the finale more than makes up for it. This is essential viewing for superhero fans."

Forbes: "With Justice League, the DCU cements itself as perhaps the best superhero cinematic universe in operation. Every actor brings their A-game, but Sterling K. Brown deserves special recognition. His Martian Manhunter is tragic, powerful, and unforgettable. This is what superhero cinema should aspire to be."

BBC Culture: "Justice League is a visually stunning, emotionally resonant superhero epic that stands as one of the finest ensemble films in the genre. Henry Cavill, Jensen Ackles, Alexandra Daddario, Damson Idris, Alan Ritchson, Grant Gustin, and especially Sterling K. Brown deliver performances that elevate the movie to another level. The film's exploration of trauma, sacrifice, and unity feels earned and impactful. This is blockbuster filmmaking with substance."

The Guardian (4/5 Stars):

"A superhero ensemble done with intelligence and heart. Justice League gives each of its heroes meaningful arcs and moments to shine, with Sterling K. Brown's Martian Manhunter emerging as the standout. The film balances spectacle with character work in a way that feels refreshing in an oversaturated genre. DC Studios continues its impressive streak."

Comments:

u/HolisticDiver

It lived up to the hype. Genuinely one of the best superhero team-up movies ever made.

u/babyishconfiguration661

It's funny how most of the scenes we thought were from the final battle in the trailer were actually from the beginning of the movie. Like, the Martians invaded in the middle of the film.

u/GoofyRecognition

Kinda made the movie stand apart from The Avengers, to be honest. I loved how they all came together organically

u/babyishconfiguration661(replying)

YES! And I loved how Superman already knew most of them. Like, he knew Batman and Wonder Woman. Before the movie, he was basically going around like a happy little puppy trying to make friends with fellow heroes. It was adorable.

u/GoofyRecognition (replying)

Can't wait for World's Finest. Seeing how amazing Henry and Jensen's chemistry is, I need more of their scenes together. Loved every interaction.

u/glaringpragmatism593

Malefic felt a bit undercooked. Other than that, great movie.

u/TacticalPanda92 (replying)

Yeah, I wish they'd given him more time.

u/ErraticInfamy

I wanted the movie to be longer. Yes, even more longer. I did not want it to end, especially the scenes with the League together. Green Lantern and Flash make a great team. Give me a movie with them together!

u/SpeedForceSuperfan  (replying)

Same. Their banter was top-tier.

u/crate_of_hands

The movie was okay to me. But what was the point of Batman revealing his identity? Bruce would never do that.

u/DarkKnightDefender (replying)

Hard disagree. That was a moment of trust. The entire point was Bruce learning he can't do everything alone.

u/crate_of_hands (replying)

He doesn't even know them. Why would he trust them with that?

u/CapLogic (replying)

Superman already knew. Wonder Woman can be trusted she's literal royalty and a diplomat. Green Lantern is a Green Lantern. Aquaman is the literal king of Atlantis. The only person who's "normal" in the traditional sense is Flash. And the movie was building up to this moment where Batman is annoyed by Flash at first, but then cracks a smile at his nervous jokes. It was perfect character work.

u/Bmancholar (replying)

Exactly. Bruce saw that these people were willing to die for Earth and felt like he could trust them. Batman Part 3 was all about this it was setting him up to expand beyond Gotham.

u/FlashFanatic88 (replying)

And Flash's reaction to finding out was hilarious.

u/skeptviewer_42

Unpopular opinion: I didn't like it. They had to nerf Superman so hard for the plot to work. He gets mind-controlled? Come on.

u/Lasrypton (replying)

He wasn't nerfed, he was challenged. Malefic had a Fatherbox and telepathic abilities that specifically countered Superman's strengths.

u/Wondcher (replying)

Also, Superman literally saved the day multiple times. How is that nerfed?

JUSTICE LEAGUE SHATTERS BOX OFFICE RECORDS WITH $803 MILLION GLOBAL DEBUT

The DCU's crowning achievement demolishes Superman's previous record in a historic opening weekend

Justice League has officially become the biggest opening weekend of all time, crushing the global box office with a staggering $803 million worldwide debut.

The ensemble superhero epic, which brings together Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter for the first time on screen, has shattered the previous DCU record held by Superman (2015), which opened to $718 million globally.

The film earned $298 million domestically and $505 million internationally over its opening weekend, making it one of the largest debuts in cinema history.

With an $803 million global debut, Justice League now ranks as the biggest opening weekend of all time, surpassing:

Justice League – $803M

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – $777M

Superman – $718M

The film opened in 4,375 theaters domestically and across 67 international markets, including major territories like China ($89M), the UK ($52M), Mexico ($38M), Brazil ($34M), Germany ($31M), France ($28M), South Korea ($27M), and Australia ($24M).

DOMESTIC BREAKDOWN

Opening Weekend: $298 million

Per-Theater Average: $68,114

IMAX Contribution: $48 million (16% of domestic total)

Premium Format Total (IMAX, Dolby, 4DX): $87 million (29% of domestic total)

INTERNATIONAL BREAKDOWN

Opening Weekend: $505 million

China: $89 million (largest international market)

UK: $52 million

Rest of World: $364 million across 65+ markets

The opening cements the DCU's position as one of the most consistently successful superhero franchises in modern cinema.

"We knew Justice League was going to be big," said Chris Henderson, CEO of Stardust Pictures. "But this exceeds even our most optimistic projections. Audiences around the world have embraced these characters, and this opening proves that the DCU has become a global phenomenon."

The film's success is bolstered by overwhelmingly positive word of mouth and strong critical acclaim:

Rotten Tomatoes: 85% Critics / 94% Verified Audience

CinemaScore: A

Metacritic: 78

Audiences have particularly responded to the film's ensemble dynamics and emotional depth. Sterling K. Brown's performance as Martian Manhunter has been singled out as a highlight, with many calling it one of the best superhero performances of the year.

"This is what we've been building toward," said Daniel Adler, Chief Creative Officer of DC Studios. "Five years of storytelling, culminating in this moment."

Box office analysts are now projecting Justice League could finish its theatrical run with:

Domestic Total: $650–750 million

International Total: $1.4–1.6 billion

Worldwide Total: $2.0–2.3 billion

If these projections hold, Justice League would become: The highest-grossing DCU film ever. The highest-grossing superhero film ever

One of the top five highest-grossing films of all time (second only to Avatar, surpassing Superman)

Title: "JUSTICE LEAGUE - FULL SPOILER BREAKDOWN & POST-CREDITS SCENES EXPLAINED!"

JAKE: "Alright guys, welcome back to JakeTalksComics. If you haven't seen Justice League yet, GET OUT. This is a full spoiler breakdown, and we're diving DEEP."

[He goes through the entire movie breakdown, discussing plot points, character arcs, and action sequences.]

[POST-CREDITS SCENES SECTION]

JAKE: "Okay, okay. Finally. We have TWO post-credits scenes, and let me tell you they are MASSIVE."

[He leans forward.]

JAKE:  "The first one basically confirms: the Legion of Doom is coming."

[He pulls up an image of Lex.]

JAKE: "Now, I'm not sure of all the members yet, but I think Black Manta is guaranteed, since Adler kind of revealed that in last month's interview. Metallo? Maybe. I don't know. I think most of the returning villains will be from Chapter 2."

[He pauses, thinking.]

JAKE: "Also, in the movie, we get some info on Lex. LexCorp is under investigation, and Lex himself could go to jail. So I'm theorizing maybe the events of Man of Tomorrow will change Lex's perspective in some way. Because Daniel Adler mentioned that the title Man of Tomorrow doesn't only refer to Superman. And considering we saw Lex's armor in the teaser... well..."

[He grins.]

JAKE: "President Lex might be happening."

[He sits back.]

JAKE: "Of course, the next big reveal in this scene: Deathstroke, played by Joe Manganiello. Someone Daniel cast like three years ago. They're apparently D&D buddies. So Lex has called in Deathstroke to retrieve something."

JAKE: "Now, here's where we get our connection to Suicide Squad. Other than Waller, Rick Flag Sr., and the mention of Task Force X in this movie what if the reason Waller sends out the Squad is because the Joker gets his hands on the Fatherbox? Which we saw was taken by ARGUS at the end of Justice League."

[He points at the camera.]

JAKE: "And Deathstroke is confirmed to be in Suicide Squad. So maybe he's going after the Fatherbox for Lex. Which means the Fatherbox may be back in play sooner than we thought."

[He leans in conspiratorially.]

JAKE: "Now, I'm gonna make another crazy theory. It'll make more sense after I explain the next scene, so hold on to that."

JAKE: "Let's move on to the SECOND post-credits scene. And we finally have confirmation that the DCU's ultimate villain is Darkseid."

JAKE: "We see Apokolips. Granny Goodness, played by Kathy Bates amazing casting, by the way and Steppenwolf, played by Joel Edgerton. She tells him that Darkseid has summoned him."

[Jake pauses dramatically.]

JAKE: "Now, here's my wild theory. What if... Steppenwolf is in Suicide Squad?"

[He holds up his hands defensively.]

JAKE: "I know, I know. It sounds crazy. Maybe it's too much. But think about it the Fatherbox is on Earth. Steppenwolf is being summoned, maybe to retrieve it. The Squad might be going after it after Joker gets his hands on it. Now remember, Batman won't be in Gotham, since he might be on Warworld at the moment with Superman, as World's Finest is all about that."

[He shrugs.]

JAKE: "I expected maybe a glimpse of Darkseid, like how Thanos was shown in The Avengers. But it looks like they're saving him for later. And honestly, I'm okay with that. Build him up. Make him terrifying. The general audience is more familiar with Thanos, so DC has that shadow hanging over them."

[He claps his hands together.]

JAKE: "Alright, guys. That's the breakdown. Justice League is a masterpiece. The DCU is firing on all cylinders. Let me know your theories in the comments. What do you think the Legion of Doom lineup will be? Is President Lex happening? Will Steppenwolf show up in Suicide Squad?"

[He points at the camera.]

JAKE: "JakeTalksComics, signing off. See you in the next one."

@CapMarF019

THREAD: Justice League is literally just The Avengers with a DC coat of paint, and nobody wants to admit it. Let's break down how Adler BLATANTLY copied Whedon:

J'onn/Ma'alefa'ak = Thor/Loki (brothers as hero and villain ✓)

White Martians = Chitauri (alien army ✓)

Waller = Fury (government overseer ✓)

Fatherbox = Tesseract (glowing MacGuffin ✓)

Darkseid tease = Thanos tease (purple villain ✓)

Even the STRUCTURE is the same: assemble the team → alien invasion → portal in the sky → big battle → tease a bigger bad.

DC fans really out here acting like this is original when Adler literally ctrl+c ctrl+v'd the entire Avengers playbook. At least ADMIT you're watching a $300M fanfic.

Oh, I'm sorry, did you just discover that "hero and villain as brothers" is a trope that's existed for literally THOUSANDS OF YEARS???

Also, Darkseid was created in 1970. Thanos in 1973.

Darkseid inspired Thanos.

Thanos is literally nothing compared to Darkseid.

Darkseid is a god playing mortal, while Thanos is a mortal playing god.

So actually, Marvel copied DC. Sit down.

Okay, let's actually break this down properly because this discourse is exhausting:

Hero's brother as a villain. This is a trope older than cinema. Romulus/Remus, Cain/Abel, Thor/Loki, Scar/Mufasa, J'onn/Ma'alefa'ak. Accusing Justice League of copying The Avengers is like accusing The Lion King of copying the Bible. Even the dynamic between Thor and Loki and Ma'alefa'ak and J'onn are completely different.

Waller ≠ Fury. I mean, come on. Do I need to explain?

Fatherbox ≠ Tesseract

Darkseid ≠ Thanos

These films use similar GENRE CONVENTIONS. Superhero team-ups tend to share certain elements, but they tell fundamentally different stories with different structures and themes.

[He explains more]

I could go on. These films share a GENRE, not a script.

Y'all realize you can like BOTH, right?

Avengers was great. It pioneered the team-up formula.

Justice League evolved that formula with a different structure, deeper themes, and better character balance.

Both can be good. This isn't sports. You don't have to pick a side.

Also, accusing superhero team-up movies of being similar is like accusing rom-coms of having similar plots. It's a GENRE. Tropes exist.

@FilmCriMike

Film professor here. Let's talk about the "copy" accusation:

Genre conventions ≠ plagiarism.

Western films have:

Gunfights at noon

Standoffs

Revenge plots

Similar archetypes

Are they all copies? No. They're genre films.

Superhero team-ups have:

Heroes assembling

A larger threat

MacGuffin artifacts

Justice League and The Avengers use these conventions differently:

Different structures

Different themes

Different villain motivations

Different emotional cores

This is like saying Goodfellas copied The Godfather because both are mob movies.
