Chapter 96 - Chapter 096: Heading Off

I had always preferred the vivid earthly tones of a dense patch of woods over any of the scents present within a city or laboratory. Perhaps had something to with being a fucking deer? Eitherway, I sadly did not really get much of an opportunity to enjoy such scenes in my everyday life.

Even most of my time in the game had been spent in the back of a dim (if very high class) bar where I worked on a new plethora of weaponry and my magnum opus.

So finally being outside in the green made it so I couldn't resist taking a deep breath.

To say it was refreshing was an understatement.

"Why is it so rare that we can just agree like this?" I mumbled while lying back on the grass to look up at the occasional clouds floating on by in an otherwise vibrant blue sky. Sun essentially unobstructed to the point I may have worried about tanning if not for that obviously not being possible for me.

Training didn't… Go as badly as I had imagined it would. Sure, we both got our asses handed to us without being able to even touch our illusionary opponent, leaving me wondering how much stronger the actual person could be.

Yet that mere figment of a real person was far less sadistic than my master; at least allowing us to reposition after showcasing our mistakes.

Truly feeling like an actual spar rather than becoming the toy for a sadistic omnipotent god.

Hearing that I could only throw my arm over my eyes while enjoying the heat of the bare sun raining down upon me as I lazed about. "Don't count her out for the last one."

Letting a gentle chuckle escape from my lips.

"Are you paying attention to my little strawberry?" The voice of my mother came out from the prettier looking system though that wasn't surprising. I once again found myself on another video call with the rest of my family… Except Arthur for fairly obvious reasons.

Currently I found herself just outside an encampment made by my metal army - not particularly amazing as it was just a collection of tents. They at least had my heraldry upon them once I had arrived just a bit earlier today. Alexis was obviously still with me even if currently inside said camp due to nature not exactly being her thing.

She was even in the exact same face group as the (most) of our family members; a frowning mama talking to us while daddy quietly watched with his eyes faintly narrowed.

Making it clear he was taking this very seriously.

Not surprising since I had informed them all about everything I had recently learned as well as my various theories on who is doing what. This, of course, also meant they knew that their son was brought into the apparently very real realm of hell. Probably the last thing any parent wants to hear.

That was also why I was currently in camp a few klicks away from the city. I had obviously had them set up here after we got back from showing those damn moon dragons their place - essentially for the same reason every militia group did. Avoids attention that could be bad for the group and the civs.

Although none of that mattered as my bots were currently dismantling everything in and around the camp as we prepared to head out. Something my parents were strongly against. "Yes I am paying attention but none of that changes the fact that speed is very much of the utmost urgency as our enemies won't wait."

Shaking my head with a sigh as it already felt like the fifth or so time that I had already said essentially those exact same words.

"But the dangers are so great that there is no way I am letting you two charge forward without waiting for me and your father to arrive!" Slamming her hands into whatever was currently in front of her. The sound of a loud of different things breaking & clattering across the floor followed sharply behind.

She also wasn't the only one getting violet - finally showcasing where sister got it from - as Alexis snatched the REMR5 from the grasp of a patrolling bronze knight. Proceeding to throw that state of the art weapon onto the floor with a bang. "We don't need you to fucking baby us!"

"Language young lady." Mama didn't yell at Alexis however the smile she gave caused everyone in the call to noticeably straighten up and freeze in place.

Honestly, every scary element we inherited likely came from that woman…

Obviously we all quickly got on as we tried to rationalise our choice to follow whatever trail we can find on that dragon & hyena girl. What I didn't expect was for it to be daddy who spoke up next. "You aren't just charging in blindly hoping to find clues on the relics location, right?"

His voice made me know that he'd tear me apart if I didn't know what I was doing.

Still I nodded with a confident smirk.

"Those girls only have some many places to run as it is quite obvious they have no real clue what they are doing one way or another. As such their next step will likely be to try to lay low and where better to do that than in the city with the most people?" I questioned him back.

He briskly answered back. "The capital."

I simply nodded as he hummed in response; taking a moment to stroke his chin with mama gasping at his obviously less negative reaction than she had initially believed.

"Surely you can't possibly be thinking about letting them run off on their own?" She asked with more worry than anger at her husband - unable to instantly get actively angry at him due to knowing him well enough that he wouldn't be making a rash choice. "It is not like we can feasibly stop them."

Shaking his head with a long sigh as he continued on. "The fact they're even bothering to tell us, with how brash they can be, can be considered a good indicator of their trust in us. Let's put our trust in them as well while we focus on cutting them off as quickly as we can… Just in case. "

Mama's face scrunched up as she obviously wanted to argue back…

Only to let out a sigh as she physically deflated.

"Fine but you two better watch each other's backs or I have your backsides." Saying so while shaking her head in obvious resignation for this brilliant plan of ours. I could have done without the not so subtle threat of spanking at the very end.

Both of us quickly nodded without another word in case we incur the wrath of the true ruler of Porshi.

Much to her bemusement.

Letting out a sigh as the call ended; I simply let gravity do its job as I fell backwards into the warm grass that had been allowed to grow tall and wild. A strange beauty in something so simple. Closing my eye while accepting may be content if I could simply appreciate this scene for who knows how long.

Sadly I had work to do thus I could not enjoy such simplicities for very long - at the very least the next thing on the docket would not require me to move very much. The captain of the unit I brought with me as personal guards walking up while studying his REMR5. "So this is the new kit we need to learn?"

"Indeed but it shouldn't be too difficult as the REMR5 has less recoil than most ballistic weaponry due to its nature as an electro-magnetic railgun. Suit should also act as good enough ear protection that the vibrations shouldn't damage you." Nodding while enjoying the birds off in the distance.

I at least opened my eye to glance faintly in his direction; landing on the gun he held between his hands as he carefully studied every inch. An important process for anyone using a new weapon. "Cooling should be better than your average weapon, however we never used average weaponry, while the lack of explosive propulsion means it will just result in inefficiencies rather than accidents."

"What about those throwers I saw some of the BK's loading into the back of a truck?" He asked with his head motioning in the general direction of the camp.

Although I could only shake my head. "Even though your armour is better than anything else on earth; I still don't want to risk it without first stress testing them. Quark-gluon plasma may as well be the hottest thing in the known universe so I don't want to risk your boys cooking themselves due to proximity when even the bronze knights need protection."

"Tsk that shit must be powerful if literal robots on the other end of them need protection." He half mumbled to himself yet I obviously picked it up due to my superior senses. "Yea I had to develop what could essentially just be called a winter coat with liquid coolant running through them."

"Would our boys not be able to wear them over their clothes to use the throwers?" His question a fair one that I had to think on for a second before giving a shrug.

"We are talking about heat far beyond what I had your armour stress tested against so I still want testing either way and on the field testing would be annoying. Either Way we can just have the bronze boys take care of it for now." I said while pushing myself up at last.

For a second he just stood there as he slowly fiddled around with every part of his new weapon - though eventually he did finish as I readjusted my hat. "We should be ready to head out before first light tomorrow and have more NS-gas than I'd like. What do you hate so much that you'd willingly transport that stuff?"

Good question considering how dangerous my little hobby is; making me think about that question as I looked up at the sky with a smirk crawling across my lips.

"Ever killed a dragon or demon?" I countered.
