Chapter 463: Get Out!
"I'm back."
The moment Luke opened the door, the first thing he saw was, unsurprisingly, that pure-white figure.
"Oh~ You can already get out of bed? That's a whole day faster than I expected. I suppose that's what I should expect from the summit of this world."
Hearing Luke tease her, Edelweiss rolled her eyes.
"Don't use my title for something so shameless. Seriously…"
She was not lying in bed.
Instead, Edelweiss sat beside the table, which was covered with all kinds of food.
Judging from the containers, all of it had been delivered.
Luke looked slightly surprised as he removed his coat.
"How did you know I'd come back?"
"Normally, with injuries like mine, there was a decent chance I'd stay at the hospital."
"You're not the type who obediently lies around in a hospital bed."
Edelweiss understood Luke quite well.
She had not been overly worried about his injuries either.
Luke had already told her beforehand what he intended to do during the semifinal.
Since Luke believed he could handle it, Edelweiss would not fret unnecessarily.
She was not an indecisive woman.
And when it came to trusting Luke, there was probably no one in this world who surpassed her.
"Still, my girlfriend didn't even visit me while I was hospitalized."
"How heartless~"
"Ah, how heartbreaking~"
"Someone didn't even come watch her boyfriend's incredibly dangerous semifinal in person. Tsk, tsk…"
Luke hung up his coat and smiled teasingly at Edelweiss.
"…If you're that dissatisfied, then don't eat."
"I'm apparently an incompetent girlfriend anyway."
"And whose fault was it that I couldn't go out in the first place?"
Edelweiss shot Luke a look.
She would have liked to leave the room.
But that required having the stamina to do so.
Being able to get out of bed today was already an achievement.
Even now, her legs still felt weak.
Edelweiss sighed, glared at Luke, then said,
"I watched the semifinal live."
"And I'll go watch the final in person."
"Now go wash your hands. I'm starving, and I've been waiting for you before eating!"
Seeing her expression, Luke finally stopped joking.
He obediently washed his hands, then sat down at the table.
There was quite a variety of food.
But truthfully, the taste was merely acceptable.
Food delivery was not especially developed in Japan.
It was expensive and usually mediocre, so Luke and Edelweiss normally avoided ordering it.
Today, however, was an exception.
Besides, neither of them was particularly picky.
Luke had lived as an Adventurer before.
Forget mediocre but perfectly normal food.
Inside the Dungeon, if some horrifying concoction was what you needed to restore your stamina, you swallowed it anyway.
Edelweiss had also spent some time living as a fugitive when the entire world first placed a bounty on her.
Back then, simply maintaining a stable life had already been difficult.
There was little room to care about food, clothing, or other comforts.
Only after Rebellion began helping her did Edelweiss's quality of life improve somewhat.
Later, once the intensity of the manhunt faded and fewer people bothered her, she formally settled on the sword peak Edelberg and finally returned to a comfortable life.
So neither of them was particularly demanding about food.
They ended up enjoying the completely ordinary meal anyway.
...
While Luke and Edelweiss were eating, Ikki had also finished his training and returned to the hotel.
The one-versus-eight battle had been far more difficult than he expected.
But precisely because of that difficulty, it could force him to improve further in a short period and grasp that tiny possibility of victory.
So after returning to the hotel, Ikki did not head back to his room.
Instead, he walked in another direction.
"…Why are you in my room?"
"I have a small favor to ask you, Ouma-nii-san."
"At times like this, family is the only thing you can rely on, right?"
That was right.
Ikki had come to Kurogane Ouma's room.
"Get out."
Unfortunately, Ouma had absolutely no interest in hearing his request.
He rejected him mercilessly before Ikki could even explain.
Naturally, Ikki had no intention of giving up.
"If I had another option, I wouldn't have come all the way to a place like this."
"…You barge into someone else's room uninvited, then have the nerve to call it 'a place like this'?"
Ouma was family, one year older, and Ikki was the one asking him for a favor.
Yet Ikki's tone was remarkably disrespectful.
But that could hardly be helped.
After all, his older brother had not only cooperated with criminals but had personally helped lead an attack on Ikki's school.
"If you need someone's help, go bother literally anyone else."
"Stop annoying me."
"Or do you seriously have no friends?"
"Heh. I really don't want to hear that from you, Ouma-nii-san."
"…You could show at least a little respect for your senior."
"Haha. You can make jokes too, huh?"
"My long-lost biological brother finally reappears, only for me to discover he became a criminal's lackey."
"Does an outlaw like you really qualify as my senior?"
"I already look down on you as much as humanly possible."
"Or would you like me to grab a magnifying glass so I can 'look' even farther down?"
"…You really do hate me completely."
Whether it was Shizuku's influence or something Luke had infected him with, Ikki had somehow achieved the rare feat of utterly crushing Ouma in a verbal exchange.
Even Ouma frowned at the relentless barrage.
Still, he had at least some self-awareness.
He knew perfectly well that he had done plenty of things worth hating.
So Ouma sighed helplessly.
"Fine."
"Tell me what you want."
"I want you to help me train."
"Tomorrow, before the final begins, I want you to be my opponent in a mock battle."
"I see."
"So that's why you came to me."
Ouma immediately understood Ikki's reasoning.
Among all the competitors still staying at the hotel, the strongest person Ikki could realistically ask to train with was the Sword Emperor of Wind, Kurogane Ouma.
Excluding Luke, who was his opponent, and Stella, who was still undergoing treatment, there were almost no competitors capable of matching Ouma.
The only one who might have a chance of defeating him was Sara Bloodlily, who could summon Twin-Wings.
But in a real battle, now that Ouma already knew Sara's methods, he would never give her enough time to paint freely.
So Ouma would still hold the advantage.
More importantly, Ikki did not know Sara personally.
He could hardly ask a complete stranger for such a demanding favor, especially when she was also a member of Rebellion.
That left Ouma as his only real choice.
Among every competitor in this year's Seven Star Sword Art Festival, aside from Stella and Ikki himself, not a single person could confidently claim they were capable of injuring Luke.
Even monsters on Amane and Sara's level had failed.
Only Ouma—At the very end of his match—Had managed to touch Luke.
As a training opponent specifically meant to prepare Ikki for Luke, Ouma was more useful than anyone else.
