Alex sat in his room and spoke softly.
"Mingyue, sometimes I wonder, is it all fate?"
Her answer came at once.
"Fate? That is bullshit, Alex.
Your life is carved by your own hands."
She did not pause as she went on.
"If, at that time, you had rejected Vesa, or you had decided not to go to that research facility, would you have become a progenitor?
The same is true for me. There are so many moments where one different choice would have sent me somewhere else.
Our lives now are the result of our own choices. I will never agree it is decided by fate."
"You are right," Alex said.
"What is with you today? Being so sentimental now," she asked.
"One of my family just reminded me how selfish I am, and I realized she is right."
"Oh? What did you do, Alex?"
Alex told her what had happened with Olivia.
He repeated Olivia's words about her family and what she had shared with him.
Mingyue went quiet for a moment.
