Cherreads

Chapter 24 - Chapter 24:something interesting..

The following morning the press conference was held in the Tech Haven atrium-glass walls, polished floors, and a podium that suddenly felt too small for the weight of what Debra had to say.

She stood behind it, flanked by her parents. Her father's lip was still healing, a faint bruise shadowing his cheek. Her mother's expression was unreadable-composed, but fierce, she had always been a hard person to read.

Cameras clicked. Reporters murmured. The room was packed.

Debra took a breath. Then another.

And then she began.

"My name is Debra Harrison . I'm here today not just as a member of this company, or as the daughter of one of its founders-but as someone who believes in accountability, even when it hurts."

The room quieted.

"Over the past few weeks, we've uncovered a series of financial discrepancies within our company. Funds were misappropriated. Documents were forged. And the trust of our employees, our partners, and our clients was violated."

She paused, letting the words settle.

"The individual responsible is my uncle as i would like to call him, Mr Aries. He used my father's name to authorize illegal transfers and attempted to erase the evidence when suspicions arose. We have handed over all findings to the authorities."

A ripple moved through the crowd.

"But he didn't act alone," Debra continued, voice steady. "Clarissa Aries, our former compliance officer, knowingly facilitated these actions. She falsified audit reports and silenced internal concerns. She has also been named in the investigation."

Gasps. Pens scribbling. A few reporters stood, already dialing.

"We are cooperating fully with law enforcement. Arrest warrants have been issued. Both individuals will be taken into custody today."

Chaos Unleashed

The moment the statement ended, the room erupted.

"Debra! Did you know about this before the board did?"

"Is your father stepping down?"

"Is Tech Haven facing criminal charges?"

Security stepped in, guiding the family out through a side corridor as voices rose behind them. Debra's heart pounded, but her face stayed calm.

Outside, two police vehicles waited. Her uncle was already in custody - handcuffed, jaw clenched, refusing to look at anyone. Clarissa arrived minutes later, flanked by two plainclothes officers. She didn't resist. Just adjusted her blazer and stepped into the back seat like she was heading to a meeting.

Debra watched from the glass doors, arms folded.

Her mother stood beside her. "You did well."

"I feel like I just set fire to everything."

Her mother shook her head. "You lit a torch. That's different."

Her father joined them, his voice low. "Now we rebuild."

Debra nodded, eyes still on the flashing lights.

And somewhere deep inside, beneath the adrenaline and the ache, she felt it too.

Not relief. Not yet.

But the beginning of something honest.

But something in her broke seeing Clarissa in that police van...a secret she will keep within.

....

By morning, her name was everywhere.

CLARISSA ARIES ARRESTED IN CORPORATE COLLUSION

Some headlines painted her as a hero. Others called her a traitor. A few questioned whether she'd known all along and only spoke up when it was safe.

She didn't read them. Not really. Just glimpsed the words as they flashed across her phone, her inbox, the scrolling news banners in the café window.

She kept her head down. Answered only what she had to. Declined interviews. Let the company's legal team handle the rest.

But the pressure was real.

People stared when she walked into the office. Some nodded, grateful. Others whispered. The board was split-half of them shaken, the other half scrambling to distance themselves from Mr. Aries and Clarissa.

Her father was in meetings all day. Her mother was fielding calls from investors. And Debra… Debra was trying not to disappear inside herself.

Her day moved pretty fast... Or maybe it's because she was shutting put everything else today.

That evening, she returned to her studio. The one place that hadn't changed.

She dropped her bag, kicked off her shoes, and sat on the floor, back against the couch. The silence was thick. Not peaceful - just empty.

Then a knock.

She didn't move at first. Just stared at the door.

Another knock. Then: "It's me."

Her heart jumped.

She opened the door to find Lean standing there, suitcase in one hand, a paper bag in the other.

"I brought dumplings," she said softly. "And I'm not leaving until you eat."

Debra didn't speak. Just stepped forward and wrapped her arms around her, holding on like the world might fall apart if she let go.

"let go now, i know you missed me. Let me dish up" lean said giving her a perk.

"dont dish up let's just eat"

They sat on the floor, eating straight from the bag, legs tangled, music low in the background.

"I saw the press conference," Lean said. "You were brilliant."

"I was terrified.".

"You didn't look it."

Debra leaned her head on Lean's shoulder. "It's like… I did the right thing. But now I'm the face of something I didn't ask for."

Lean kissed the top of her head. "You didn't ask for it. But you owned it. That matters."

They sat in silence for a while, the kind that didn't need filling.

Then Debra whispered, "I'm scared of what comes next."

Lean took her hand. "Then we face it together."

"I know you always here. You wanna do something interesting" Deb asked with hungry eyes. Leaving lean confused as to how she can switch up from sorrow to nasty...

"ummm well... Depends on what you want us to do.." that's all Lean could say looking shy.

" then let me take care of you for tonight just lie down and give me permission to own you for the night" Deb said already lowering the strings of Lean's top with her other hand already exploring underneath the top, with her lips nibbling on her neck leaving wet kisses making Lean lose her senses and all her sanity.. As soft moans escaped from her mouth...

"you wanna take it upstairs" Deb asked already removing the last piece of clothing on her body..

....
