The light came softly through the curtains. Pale gold. Gentle. It crept across the white sheets, touching skin, warming the space between them.
Noah's eyes opened first.
He lay on his back. His long black hair spread across the pillow like spilled ink. His golden eyes, still soft with sleep, looked down at the woman curled against his chest.
Lilith.
Her silver hair was loose. It pooled across his arm, across the pillow, across his chest. Her face was relaxed. Peaceful. The cold mask she wore in battle was gone. In its place was something softer. Something vulnerable.
Her breath was slow. Even. Her lips were parted slightly. Her lashes were dark against her pale cheeks.
Noah watched her for a long moment. His expression remained calm. Cold. But his eyes held something else. Something warm.
He did not speak. He simply lifted his free hand. Traced a lock of her silver hair. Let it slip through his fingers.
Lilith stirred.
