The way Bruno lost was surprising even to the spectators and judges. Matthew's attacks were too deadly, too precise, too... impressive.
There was practically no room for error; he did it perfectly. And Bruno knew it.
When the two arrived at the dressing rooms, Bruno found an opportunity to approach Matthew. He didn't even think twice before bowing deeply to him when they were alone.
"I don't think you've done anything wrong that you need to apologize for," Matthew said, staring at him.
"No, sir." Bruno shook his head. "I was disrespectful to you. I mistakenly thought you were mocking me when, in fact, you were trying to teach me. That's why I'm here to apologize."
Matthew nodded gently but smiled. "Did you know that scholars of the mind once said that we cannot control the thoughts that come to us, but that it is human nature to control ourselves so as not to let them surface?"
"Huh?" Bruno didn't understand his words.
