The environment at Mountain City Zoo is very well-done. Aside from the giant panda exhibit which is fitted with soundproof glass for the careful protection of the national treasure, other animals are kept in a semi-wild setting whenever possible.
The fixed exhibit has semi-open tourist paths, and living environments are set up according to the different habits of the creatures—like the red panda exhibit, where the visitor paths are quite unremarkable, with half-walls built up to waist height. On the inner side of the wall, there's a lush, green forest.
The simulation of the natural environment is exceptionally good.
Every few steps, there are enrichment toys fixed with hemp ropes on tree trunks. The red pandas walk and climb, interacting with tourists at close range, providing an excellent experience.
