Chapter 275 - Chapter 275:The Weight of the Past

Ash and Misty moved quickly along the sparkling stream, the sunlight filtering through the canopy above them creating dancing patterns on the clear water. The forest around them was alive with gentle sounds birds chirping, leaves rustling, and the occasional cry of wild Pokémon in the distance. Despite the urgency of their mission to find Salveyo Weed for Tracey, the two walked hand in hand, drawing comfort from each other's presence.

Misty squeezed Ash's hand, her voice soft but determined. "We have to find it soon. Tracey looked really bad back there."

Ash nodded, his expression focused yet calm. "We will. I can feel the Viridian energy stronger near water. It should be close."

As they rounded a bend in the stream, a small Poliwag suddenly popped out of the pond, its big eyes locking onto Misty immediately. The little tadpole Pokémon let out a happy "Poli!" and waddled straight toward her, rubbing affectionately against her leg.

Misty blinked in surprise, then laughed softly. "Hey there, little guy! You're friendly, aren't you?"

The Poliwag looked up at her with sparkling eyes, clearly smitten. It hopped excitedly around her feet, refusing to leave her side.

Ash chuckled. "Looks like you've got a new admirer."

Misty knelt down and gently patted the Poliwag's head. "You're cute, but we're kind of in a hurry right now."

Despite her words, the Poliwag followed them determinedly as they continued searching. A few minutes later, Misty spotted a cluster of Salveyo Weed growing near the water's edge, their distinctive leaves shimmering under the sunlight.

"Found it!" Misty cheered, carefully harvesting a generous amount.

Ash smiled proudly. "Great job. Let's head back."

As they turned to leave, two familiar figures emerged from the trees ahead James and Meowth. Both looked extremely worried, their usual dramatic flair replaced by genuine anxiety. They froze when they saw Ash and Misty.

James's eyes widened. "Ash… Misty?"

Meowth's tail twitched nervously. "Dis is bad timing…"

Ash's expression turned serious. He could sense their desperation through his Viridian power. "Why do you two look so desperate? What happened?"

James hesitated for a moment, then spoke quickly. "It's Jessie. She was accidentally hit by a Venonat's Stun Spore. She's completely paralyzed. We need Salveyo Weed to make a cure."

Misty's eyes softened with concern. "Jessie? Is she okay?"

Ash studied their faces carefully. He could tell there was more to the story than just the paralysis. Something deeper was troubling them. He made a quick decision.

"Misty, take the weed back to Giselle and heal Tracey. I'll go with them to help Jessie."

Misty nodded without hesitation, though she gave him a worried look. "Be careful, Ash. And come back soon."

The Poliwag, which had been following Misty, gave a happy cry and stayed by her side as she hurried back toward the camp.

James and Meowth led Ash through the forest toward the small abandoned shelter where they had left Jessie. The walk was quiet, tension thick in the air.

When they arrived, Jessie was lying on a blanket inside the dusty shelter, her body completely rigid from the Stun Spore. Her face was flushed with a high fever, and silent tears still lingered on her cheeks. She looked exhausted and vulnerable a far cry from the loud, dramatic Jessie they all knew.

Ash knelt beside her, his expression softening. He gently placed a hand on her forehead, sending a small wave of Viridian healing energy to ease her fever while he prepared the cure.

"James, Meowth help me crush these leaves," Ash said calmly, pulling out the Salveyo Weed he had taken from Misty.

The two Rocket members worked quickly, their movements showing clear care for their teammate. James mixed the crushed leaves with fresh water while Meowth helped hold Jessie's head up so she could drink the remedy.

After she swallowed the cure, the effects began to take hold. Jessie's body slowly relaxed, and she let out a weak groan as feeling returned to her limbs.

James sighed in relief. "Thank goodness…"

Meowth wiped his eyes. "We were really worried, Jessie."

Ash folded his arms, looking at the trio with a steady gaze. "Now spill it. I know there's something else bothering you. That wasn't just about the Stun Spore. Tell me what's really going on."

James and Meowth exchanged glances. After a long moment, James sighed deeply and began to speak.

"It's Jessie… she found something earlier. A letter from her mother. It turns out… everything she believed about her past was wrong."

Meowth nodded sadly. "She thought her mom abandoned her for a better life. But da truth is her mom was part of Team Rocket's research division. She left Jessie behind to protect her from da organization. She even died because of it."

James continued, voice heavy. "Jessie's been breaking down ever since. She's questioning everything her life in Team Rocket, her choices, her future. We've been trying to support her, but she's lost. We… we're thinking about leaving Team Rocket too. But we don't know how. Or what comes after."

Ash listened quietly, his expression softening. He already knew parts of Jessie's backstory from his previous life, but hearing it now seeing the genuine pain in their eyes hit differently.

When they finished, Ash let out a slow breath.

"I understand," he said gently. "Jessie… you don't have to carry this alone anymore."

At that moment, the System chimed in Ash's mind with new missions.
