"What's going on?"
The sudden turn of events startled everyone.
The leader of the Nine Peaks Sect team, a middle-aged man named Han Shan, was highly experienced. His pupils constricted as he tensed up and sent a Divine Sense Transmission, "Form up! We're under attack!"
The dozen or so disciples immediately dispersed. Each held a Magical Treasure that emitted a faint glow, their energies linking together to form a small barrier. The light from the barrier drove back the surrounding darkness.
But the dense forest in the distance remained silent and grim. There was no sign of movement, only the pained groans of the Nine Peaks Sect disciple who had been attacked first.
Han Shan remained vigilant, his Divine Sense spreading out as he activated a palm-sized Ruyi hanging from his waist. Instantly, his perception was greatly enhanced. The night-shrouded mountain forest, for a thousand li in every direction, appeared clearly in his mind.
He immediately spotted a dark figure.
