In a different District far off, the sun has begun to lower as the temperature gets a bit chilly. Phoenix shivers a bit, rubbing her arms under her sweater.
"Brrr… They weren't kidding about cold, huh?" She asks openly.
"It doesn't help that your sweater is cropped." Wolf points out, looking at her tummy. Phoenix gives a defiant look.
"Excuse me for liking crop tops." She says with a huff.
"Hey, I like having my tummy out as much as the next person, but I dress for practicality." Wolf says, showing off the sleeves of her custom jacket made by the ASA.
"Would you two shut up? We're on a mission right now." Moshiro says sharply as they stay low on this rooftop.
"She's right. But it's not a stealth mission, so don't worry about talking." Axe says while looking out through the streets. Phoenix glares at Wolf a bit with a pouty look.
"I'm still mad at you." She says to Wolf, who is shocked.
"For what??" she asks with a baffled laugh. Phoenix leans closer and whispers upset.
"For kissing Yoko!."
"First of all, they kissed me. And second, what's the big deal? It's not like you and I haven't kissed before." Wolf says openly. Moshiro's head snaps over as even Yoko perks up.
"You guys have kissed?" Moshiro asks as Phoenix blushes intensely and shoves Wolf's face away.
"N-No! We were just.. playing! Cause we were so young, we didn't really know or anything, haha!" Phoenix laughs, flustered.
"Whatever. Not like I really care." Moshiro says while looking away before smirking and eyeing them from the side. "Though the others might." She says. Phoenix cartoonishly cries as she latches onto Moshiro's leg, begging.
"Noooo, please! Don't tell anyoneee.." Phoenix whines. Wolf stares at her for a moment before looking at Axe and Komori.
"What exactly are we doing here?" Wolf asks as Moshiro pushes Phoenix off of her leg. Komori turns and looks at Wolf with a smile.
"As a hero, sometimes the best thing to do is watch and wait. Make sure that everything is going smoothly in the area and act when the time is right." Komori says as Axe straightens up.
"Speaking of right time. It's go time. Komori." He says, offering his hand to her. Komori smiles before taking his hand.
"Watch this! Ever wonder why we're considered a single Director?" Komori asks as the kids watch with wide eyes. Suddenly, Komori begins to glow a bright pink color before Axe tosses her into the air. She flips rapidly over and over as she comes back down swiftly, only to seemingly have transformed into something else entirely. Axe catches a handle of a large item still glowing before the glow disperses with a snap, revealing a large blade. She appears to be a human sized kitchen knife with slight adjustments, giving her a more aggressive, punk look. Axe pulls her back and over his shoulder.
"Tadaaa!" Komori voices from the blade with a slight muffled echo effect to her voice. The group's eyes shine brightly as they're all amazed. "I am the Myth Type: Living Weapon. I can transform into any weapon I want, and with Axe as my wielder, together we are one!" Komori shouts happily as Axe smiles.
"She's truly one hell of a partner." Axe says before turning and looking over the edge. "Now, see that man over there?" He asks, pointing down at a tired, shifty looking guy walking down the street. "That's our target. I saw him mug somebody around the corner. We need to approach him cautiously as to not draw attention." Axe says but as he speaks, Wolf gets an excited look and gets up, leaping from the roof after him.
"Easy! I've done things like this dozens of times!" She shouts as she takes chase after the man. Axe looks stunned as Phoenix shouts.
"Wolf! Stop, come back!" Phoenix shouts over the edge as Moshiro face palms frustratedly. Axe sweats as Komori speaks to him only.
"She might screw up big time. We have to get him." Komori says to him in his mind.
"I know.. Come on!" Axe commands as they all leap from the building after them. Wolf rushes down the sidewalk, bumping into someone who shouts at her. The man doesn't seem to notice her rushing up behind him before Wolf shouts.
"Stop right there, criminal scum!" Wolf shouts with a smirk on her face. Signaling the man, he turns with a shocked look but pulls something from his pocket and instinctively throws it at Wolf's face. It hits her and explodes on contact, throwing her on her back and startling the people nearby. Wolf sits up with a grunt as she holds her face.
"Ow! That hurt!" She shouts as the man looks even more scared before taking off running. The man shoves people around as Wolf chases.
"Wolf! Stop right now!" Axe shouts.
"Wolf, please listen!" Phoenix shouts too.
"It's okay, I can get him! Excuse me, ASA agent coming through!" She shouts back before bumping through people to catch the man.
The man runs down the street and once in front of an alley, he grabs a random person and pulls him in front of himself before pulling out a couple stones from his pocket. They start glowing with a hiss as Wolf's eyes widen.
"Let me go! I-I'll kill him!"
The man threatens, but Wolf doesn't even hesitate, scaring the man and the civilian so the man just throws the stones at Wolf, who catches them. Instantly, they explode with a burst of smoke and fire as the man takes off down the alley. He quickly jumps over the fence as Wolf charges out of the smoke.
As the man continues running out of the alley on the other side, Wolf just punches through the fence, tearing it down as the man runs away. Wolf slides to a stop and lifts her hand, pointing at the man running away before firing a purple lightning bolt at the man, but it misses and hits a light pole next to him. People scream at the sudden loud burst of electricity as the man ducks from the sparks but keeps running away. Wolf clicks her tongue in frustration.
"Whatever, I can catch him!" She says, preparing to run, but before she can, Axe slaps her hard on the back of the head before quickly grabbing her shirt collar and lifting her off the ground.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?!" He shouts. "You do not use your powers over a large civilian populace!" Axe shouts, fuming as Wolf is stunned by the sudden act, too stunned to speak. "Over 80% of the world's population is Typeless. Your job is protecting them, not causing destruction and chaos." Axe says with a sharp tone as Wolf stares at him.
"I was just.. trying to…" She says softly as Komori speaks up.
"She just got a little excited. Give her a break." Komori says as Axe huffs and lets her go. As Wolf hits the floor, Phoenix grabs her by her jacket collar and shakes her aggressively.
"WHAT'RE YOU DOING?? YOU'RE GONNA GET US IN TROUBLE!" Phoenix shouts, shaking her. Axe sighs again and looks around.
"Thanks to her, we're gonna have to find him again. And now he'll probably call for backup." He says before eyeing the group of people staring at them and checking each other out. "You two, go make sure these people are okay and tell them the ASA is looking for a criminal in the area and it's under control." Axe says, pointing at Moshiro and Yoko. They nod and do just that. He then turns and looks at Wolf and Phoenix. "We're gonna find the criminal." He says as they focus and nod.
Elsewhere, in a dark hall of a seemingly abandoned building, the man looks outside with a nervous look. He sweats before leaning back behind the wall and pulling out a phone. He calls someone and lifts the phone to his ear before speaking.
"Hey! Hey, you need to come get me now!- Wha- no, I'm not at the meeting point! I can't! I think the academy knows, they sent agents after me. Well, I bombed one in the face, but she just got back up! No- no, I have what you need, just come get me!"
The man shouts into the phone frustratedly when suddenly, a large blade stabs through the wall next to his head. He screams as he falls over, dropping his phone. He rolls onto his back as he crawls back away from the people standing before him.
"You should've been a bit more cautious. I know your Frequency now, so it was easier this time." Axe says as Phoenix steps forward.
"Turn yourself in, criminal. We are agents of the Academy of Superior Abilities, and we've come to arrest you." Phoenix says firmly.
"Heh… you kids have no idea what's going on here.. Things aren't as they seem. Don't believe me? Just look at him!"
The man shouts nervously before launching glowing stones at Axe, who quickly bats them away with Komori now transformed into a bat. One of the stones smacks the man in the head as he falls back.
"Well, that was easier than last time." Wolf says as Axe keeps his eyes on the man. The man then starts chuckling to himself before speaking.
"You kids have no idea what's going on here…" he repeats. "It doesn't matter what you do. The truth will come out." The man says before sitting up, slumped over a bit. "You especially. You purple eyed freak." He says, looking at Wolf. Wolf gets an intense look but doesn't do more as he keeps talking. "That's what they call you, right? You should be helping us." he says as Wolf is surprised. Phoenix looks at the man with serious eyes.
"That's enough. Do you surrender?" She asks. The man lifts his hands up in a surrendering pose before letting them drop to the ground in defeat. Phoenix huffs in satisfaction. "Good. Wolf, let's tie him up." Phoenix says as Wolf nods.
Before they can do anything though, suddenly a large scythe is placed against the man's neck before running clean through him. The partners watch with intense eyes filled with shock, disgust, fear and much more. They watch as the man's head rolls on the ground and his body goes limp, hitting the floor. Phoenix is shocked as Wolf slowly turns and looks at Axe holding Komori as a scythe, staring at the man's body with no remorse.
"You… killed him?.." Phoenix stutters out as an anxious, crooked smile spreads across her face and fear in her eyes.
"Why'd you do that?" Wolf asks intensely as Axe simply walks forward, crouches down and grabs the small crossbody bag the man had on him. Axe opens it and looks inside before closing it.
"We got what we needed. Well done, you two." Axe says while stepping towards the entrance.
Without moving, Wolf and Phoenix look at each other with uncertain eyes before they hear a noise. They look back and see the man's body sitting upright again. Axe turns around and looks as well as the headless body begins to stand up in an inhuman way. Phoenix looks even more scared than before as Wolf tenses up.
Axe's eyes stay sharp as the body twitches, making horrid noises. Bone crushing and flesh tearing, an arm like appendage grows out of the man's severed neck. His body contorts and becomes larger and more inhuman as his two regular arms grow in length a bit, with his two middle fingers fusing together on both hands.
His legs invert, making his knees go backwards as his clothes tear. His body changes color to a more pale white as markings become apparent along his body and limbs. The head arm looks more like a crooked crane with two hefty hook like digits at the end with heavy knuckles. As it seemingly finishes transforming, suddenly, a hole appears in its chest with an awful noise. The hole is perfectly smooth and round, going all the way through its body.
"You're one creepy mutha-" Before Axe could even finish his sentence, the creature extends its head arm and slams it into Axe with snapping speed, smashing him through multiple buildings behind them. The partners are shocked by the sudden attack.
As the creature pulls its arm back, it carries the bag Axe took in its main arm. The partners stare at it before it suddenly lifts its two other arms and points its palms at them each, holes in the center of the palms. Instantly, explosions come bursting out and hit them both. Phoenix puts up an energy shield just in time to block the attack as Wolf is blasted out the window behind her and onto the street.
"Wolf!" Phoenix shouts before focusing her attention on the creature standing right before her, closer than it was a moment ago, looming over her. "Stay back!" She shouts at it as she expands her shield to cover her from it more.
The creature looks at her for a moment before slowly lifting its hand and pushing it through her shield as though it was made of jelly. Phoenix's eyes widen in shock when suddenly a slicing sound it heard as the creature steps back, its arm hitting the ground.
"I should've figured a Soul like yours would be fractured." Axe says as he steps back into the building through the smoke and dust. A spinning object goes flying through the air before snapping back towards Axe and he catches her. It's Komori in the shape of a bladed boomerang.
"Fractured? A Soul Fracture? So he's a Torn?" Phoenix asks, keeping her shield up as she looks at Axe step next to her then back at the Torn.
"That's right. Ever seen someone turn Torn in real time?" Axe asks her. As he does, the Torn lifts its severed arm and looks at it before regenerating its limb almost instantly.
"No… I know it can happen randomly, but… I just thought it was when people gave up hope. Not when they…" she says as she thinks about the man's death and looks at Axe, who doesn't remove his gaze from the Torn.
Outside, Moshiro rushes over as Yoko flies on down next to Wolf, who props herself up, holding her slightly bleeding head.
"Wolf! You alright?" Moshiro asks.
"Yeah, I'm fine. He just got me by surprise." Wolf says back as they look into the building and get wide eyes.
"Phoenix. I want you to fall back with the others." Axe says clearly. Phoenix looks determined as she keeps her shield up.
"No way! We're here to help you!" Phoenix says with passion in her voice.
"I said…" Axe speaks as Komori transforms into a curved cane and quickly wraps it around Phoenix's waist, yanking her back. "Go to the others!" He shouts as the Torn quickly slams its claws down where Phoenix was standing with insane speed. Before it could do anything to her, Axe launches her through the open window and right into Wolf's arms. Wolf catches her as they slide back a bit and quickly look back into the building. In an instant, the Torn is sent flying through the wall, smashing into a wall of a building across the street. Out of the dust, Komori's large knife blade self goes flying and impales the Torn into the wall behind it. Axe comes charging out of the smoke and extends his arm out for her. Komori then turns into the bright pink energy and transforms onto Axe's hand, turning into large knuckle dusters. Axe spins around and slams his fist into the Torn's body swiftly upwards. With a focused stare and some effort, a clicking sound is heard as Komori shifts and blasts an energy wave into the Torn, sending it flying to the air, black goop blood spilling around. In that single moment, Axe turns around and points a finger at the group.
"Spread out and start ushering people far away from the area. Keep them safe and keep doing so until I say otherwise." Axe commands as the group looks intense.
"But you're a Director. Shouldn't a single Torn be easy to handle?" Wolf asks as Axe turns to face the Torn and exhales sharply in frustration.
"Just do what I say." He says firmly before jumping after the Torn. They quickly get to their feet as Moshiro grabs Wolf's shoulder and pulls her with them.
"Come on! We gotta move!" Moshiro says.
"But I'm right, aren't I?" Wolf asks as Moshiro looks up at the two beings about to clash.
"It's not…" Moshiro says with a bit of hesitation as Axe flies into the air, closing the distance between them. Komori transforms back into her large knife form as Axe holds her firmly.
"Axe, those markings. You know what that is…" Komori says with slight concern in her voice.
"I know. It's a Grand Fracture." Axe says as the creature falls through the air, already recovered from any damage it just took.
