Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

(A/N: I have no idea how this chapter became this long)

[10:Railguns? Maybe? This Time?]

The nurse's office was kind of fun, actually. Barely anything happened, so I just played on my tablet. And when something did happen, my drones just healed anyone up with the nanobots. All I really did was control a few settings on my tablet to regulate what the nanobots should focus on. It was free money.

So, this is where I am right now. While the others were in English class, I'm here relaxing, earning that sweet Yen. Now, Recovery Girl's quirk heals things faster in a short amount of time, like when she healed Midoriya's broken bones in seconds, but there are limits to it, and not everything needs her quirk to be healed. The nanobots can do what her quirk can, but sometimes slower, depending on what's being healed. My nanobots can also be used in situations where her quirk can't be used.

"Eleanor, your nanobots really do push the edge of today's medicine. Do you fully understand what's happening?" Recovery Girl said. She's a sweet old lady, and while I won't say anything, some of the students who came in here seemed a bit relieved they didn't need to be kissed by her to heal.

"I'll be honest, not really. I don't know much about biology or medicine. That's outside my scope of knowledge." And it was. If you ask me about math, physics, engineering, computer science, materials science, a bit of chemistry, and all the stuff a person needs to work at a defense company to make weapons, then I know that, but biology and medicine not so much. The little I do know of them is from the chemistry knowledge I have.

"But you were able to explain to Aizawa what the nanobots could do."

"I know what they can do, but if you told me to give you details that involve biological and medical technical knowledge, I'd do very bad. I admit that I simply don't know."

"Knowing what they do is enough. You don't need to have in-depth knowledge."

"That's good, I'm not exactly a nurse or doctor."

"I know. Isn't the entire reason you're here for more money?"

"Nezu told you?"

"Yes. Nezu has told a few people already. Don't worry, he's keeping it in a close and trusted circle."

Right. "Close and trusted." Sure, totally. They definitely don't want to gather information on the limits of the nanobots and my character to see if they can trust me to know about All Might. Or, they can send All Might in his small form. They'll assume I don't know about that and pretend that All Might in his small form is a different person.

Nah, they won't be that dumb. Nezu is too smart, and he'll know that I'm smart enough to connect the dots. They'll want to really see me as trustworthy, but if things get desperate…their hand will be forced. It would be nice to see if All Might could be helped, but I'm not exactly going to push the issue or force it in any way.

Just then, the bell rang.

"It was nice seeing you, Recovery Girl."

"See you tomorrow, Eleanor. Here, have some candy." She placed some pieces of candy in my hands.

"Thank you."

/\\//\\//\

It's almost time. For the moment I've been waiting for. The class with All Might.

It would be a pleasant wait…if only—

"Hey, Eleanor, can you help with this English assignment? You're from America, right? So, you must know everything about English." Denki was all up on me, begging for help on some English assignment. And he's not off to a good start.

"Denki, um, you committed a fallacy, which tells me you…need to study more. Or maybe you haven't reached that part of the English course."

"What's a logical fallacy?"

Alright, I have a feeling I'll be a tutor for all of this, but at least he's asking questions, which is more than some people are willing to do.

"It's an error in reasoning and argument, but that doesn't mean the conclusion is automatically wrong. Now, I don't know 'everything about English,' but I know a bit. In this case, your conclusion is sort of right, but your reasoning is flawed. You'll need to watch out for these whenever you debate or write an essay."

"So, do I have to avoid these all the time?"

"Oh, absolutely not, only in debates and essays. In real life, in a conversation with the average person, feel free to use all the fallacies you want; that's what people do all the time anyway. Especially online. Arguments with the average person are based more on feelings and emotions rather than facts backed up with proper sources, and even if someone does cite a source, they're probably also committing a fallacy. People care more about being 'right' than they do about about finding the truth."

"Is this still English?"

"Yes, but the English you, but also everyone else here, learns is…very formal and not what the average person will talk like. I'm trying to give a glimpse of more the reality."

"So, why are we learning this?"

"Denki, English is the lingua franca of the world. You're learning English, so you have better opportunities after school."

"Oh, okay, that makes sense. So, can you help me?"

"Yeah, sure, what do you have?"

"Look."

He placed the assignment on my desk. I looked it over, and it was covering grammar and writing. Oh, geez, this is going to suck. How do I teach this? If you ask me, I just go by what "feels right" or "sounds right." This covers some grammar rules. One of them is the indefinite articles of English.

"Okay, Denki, pay attention. You're using 'a' and 'an' wrong. The difference is simple, and I see your mistake here. You're right in knowing to use 'a' before a word that starts with a consonant, and 'an' before a word that starts with a vowel. However, you're missing another part. That rule doesn't always apply. Here you wrote, 'in a hour.' It should be 'in an hour.' The rule of when to use 'a' or 'an' also matters on the sound of the word. The word 'hour' starts with a vowel sound, so you use 'an' before it. You understand?"

"Oh! I got it!"

"Didn't they teach you that?"

"He wasn't paying attention." That was a nice jab from Momo.

"Hey!"

"Denki, just go sit."

"Thanks for the help, Eleanor!"

I have a feeling he won't be the only one to ask me for help on this stuff.

Can this training just start alread—

"I am here! Coming through the door like a hero!"

All Might! Yes! Thank you for saving me! You truly are the symbol of peace!

Unlike me, who was celebrating for my own reasons, the others were looking at him with awe and wonder. I would if I spent time here instead of just being whisked and dropped in this world. But enough of that, I'm free from this classroom!

"Welcome to hero training! Probably what most of you have been waiting for! This is where you will learn the basics! But first, your costumes!" The compartments in the wall slid out smoothly. This kind of stuff is cool.

Well, I already have my costume, and it was a very simple process for me. The only thing I needed to do was make a winter modified version. I let the school handle that. They have a full design already, so just make it wintery.

Time to suit up.

/\\//\\//\

This feels very nice. And the coat is awesome. Maybe the skirt could be a little longer, but it's Azur Lane, some of those costumes can get…attractive. Yeah, let's go with attractive, even if it's a bit of an understatement at times. Though I'll be honest in saying that I may or may not have spent a "bit" of money on them. But can you really blame me? I mean, Prinz Eugen in that bunny suit? Come on now, they know what they're doing. The USS—I mean, the KMS Prinz Eugen is one of those early "waifu" ships in the game.

Alright! Time for the team-ups. And of everyone here, I really hope I got Momo. She's the only one I believe is smart enough already to understand the things I say. That's not to say everyone here is dumb; they can all learn and get smart, but Momo is already smart enough to understand advanced topics.

/\\//\\//\

Call me Daniel Bryan, because yes, yes, yes! I got Momo!

I'm in Team C with her. Everything else was the same. Coincidence? Hmm…well, it's not like it's hurting me, is it?

Now, I just have to sit back and wait. While also coming up with a strategy.

I have time, since the first fight will be between Midoriya and Bakugo.

"Let's draw!" All Might reached into the boxes and pulled out Midoriya and Bakugo's teams. So far, everything is as normal, but my presence so far hasn't really changed much. I haven't done any big actions to cause any significant change…so far. But it's not like there's going to be some big event that will kickstart and cause unpredictable and nonsensical changes, right?

That was sarcasm.

"Teams A and D will stay out here, while everyone else follows me to the monitoring room!"

/\\//\\//\

Everyone else was watching, but I already had plans.

"Momo, we need to come up with a plan. Both for if we're the bad guys or the good guys."

"Shouldn't we watch to see what the inside is like?"

"I already have that covered." I turned over my tablet that had a live view of what was happening inside. Not the building that Midoriya was in, since that'll get destroyed, but one of the other ones that will get used as backup. "Those are small spy drones, meant only for recording live video. It doesn't have any of that fancy stuff. I have them scouring the building and uploading the footage to my tablet, so it can make a map and 3D model of the building."

"When did you do all this?"

"When All Might was explaining what we would be doing. Look, you can think about it later, but we should get started on this."

"Right, yeah. What's your plan?"

"I'm going to use non-lethal stuff to take down whoever we get. You know, drones attached with flashbangs, stun guns, tasers, or any other fancy movie-like spy gadget you can come up with."

"Aren't the drones loud? The rotors make a lot of noise."

"Don't worry, the drones I'll make will use a hybrid mag-lev assisted bladeless propulsion system. It'll be very quiet. At most, it'll only be a faint buzz or an electrical hum of sorts. And it'll be perfect for such close and tight spaces."

"Wait, why not just use magnetic levitation by itself?"

"Because it's impossible. In a physics sense. The Earth's magnetic field is too weak and uniform for that. I'd need an external magnetic structure or the drone carries something it can push against. This uses something called magnetohydrodynamic propulsion."

"Can you explain that?"

Yeah, I don't blame her.

"Yeah, this might also help with your quirk and stuff, so pay attention. It's very simple; it works by using electric currents and magnetic fields to accelerate conductive fluids. It uses the Lorentz force to push the fluid backward and propel it forward. In this case, the air is a fluid. This makes the drone have instant thrust vectoring, no blade Mach limits, and no mechanical stress from rotation, just to name a few things."

"So the drone punishes the air with fields? Ok, but how would this help me with my quirk?"

"That's right, Momo. Our quirks have some similarities, mainly in the creation part. You need to know the molecular structure of the item you make, and I need to come up and know the 'blueprint' of whatever drone I design in my head. If you understand this stuff, you may be able to make advanced technology by creating the parts one by one. The stuff civilians can't buy."

Man, if Momo worked in my industry, imagine the possibilities. If I had her power, I'd have so much fun testing out a bunch of theories that I can weaponize and sell. I could work in some cool military lab and help humanity! Actually, a bit of an oxymoron there, isn't it? Well, the military had GPS technology first before civilians, so…there's some truth to it.

"So, what's our plan now that the noise problem is taken care of?"

"Listen—"

We were distracted when we heard a sudden rumble and loud noise. I looked at the camera, and it reached the point where the building Midoriya was in was blown apart. Hmm…alright, plenty of time left.

"Should we watch?"

"No, there'll be other opportunities to observe their quirk, and if you really are curious, just ask me; I know the quirks of everyone here."

"How? Everyone here hasn't told you, and you haven't interacted with everyone here."

"I've been here for a bit. Anyway, listen up."

/\\//\\//\

As expected, Midoriya's team won. Tenya got too into playing a villain, and Bakugo handed Uraraka an amazing opportunity when he blew up the place. Bakugo is quite literally the opposite of an MVP. He actively contributed to his team's loss. This is an objective-based trial, not a deathmatch of sorts.

Anyway, Midoriya went to the nurse's office. I thought All Might would tell me to heal him, but I guess he thinks the damage is too severe. It makes sense from his perspective. I should teach more about the abilities of nanobots. It is what it is, I guess.

"Next is Team C as the villains and Team G as the heroes! Go to the new site to begin the trial."

Show time.

/\\//\\//\

"This is a big place. How do we know which floor to go to?"

"Just think a little, Denki. I'll plug in my earjacks into the wall to listen."

"Begin!" All Might's voice boomed through their earbuds.

Denki and Kyoka cautiously entered the first floor. Kyoka moved quickly, sticking close to the wall, before finding a spot to plug into. Her earjack extended and plugged into the wall.

Instantly, an immense buzzing sound, as if a million flies were next to her, filled her ears. She quickly unplugged from the wall and covered her ears.

"Kyoka, what happened!" Denki checked on her to see how he could help.

"That's not good."

"What's not good?"

"I can't use my quirk to find them, it's too loud. The only thing I could hear was that they're on the top floor. And from so much noise, they've probably made it a bunker."

"So we just have to storm up the floors? There shouldn't be too much resistance then!"

"Why do you have to say that? It's Momo, who knows what things she's made. And then Eleanor. Did you see her in the quirk tests Aizawa had us do?"

"A quick blast of electricity should be fine."

"Fine."

As the two of them went up the floors, not a single obstacle greeted them. Not even a stray object.

"This feels too easy." Kyoka whispered.

"You did say they were probably shut in on the top floor."

"I know, but…I thought there would be some traps on the way there or something."

"This is going to be an all-or-nothing showdown then."

As they continued going up, they started hearing a faint buzzing get louder and louder until they had to start talking louder and louder to compensate for so much noise.

"Is there a bee colony in there! What could they possibly be doing‽" Denki yelled as he covered his ears.

"Denki! You have to blast everything as soon as we see it! It's a bunch of noisemakers!" Kyoka yelled.

They started going as fast as they could just to get rid of the noise.

At the peak, the buzzing reached its loudest. The two of them ran to the door, but before they opened it, Kyoka got her earjacks ready to unleash shockwaves. Seeing this, Denki was also prepared. At the same count, they opened the door only to be met with a metal reinforcement behind it.

Kyoka wasted no time and shot a shockwave to destroy it. Behind it, they saw seemingly countless drones flying around with their loud rotors. Denki shot a blast of electricity that chained across multiple, destroying them instantly.

"Be careful! They could be anywhere!" Kyoka shouted as her shockwaves also destroyed multiple drones. Their area of effect attacks rapidly destroyed all the drones. In the silence, they looked around.

"Something isn't right," Kyoka said as she looked around the top floor. "Why haven't they attacked us yet? Or when we were distracted, taking out those drones?"

"Hey, Kyoka, I think there's a bigger issue. Where's the bomb we're supposed to find?"

Just as Denki said, when they looked around, the only thing they saw was parts of broken drones, and there was a smell of electrical burns. They kept looking around, just to be sure, but as they did, Denki heard an out-of-place humming noise near them.

When he looked to see what it was, it was a sleek-looking drone, but he had no time to look at it for too long.

"Kyoka, get down!" Kyoka instantly got down before Denki unleashed a surge of electricity at the drone, but unlike the others, a transparent and blue shield absorbed the electricity, leaving a light-orange spot where the electricity hit.

"Huh?"

"What?"

Unfortunately, Denki and Kyoka's reaction was short-lived before the drone suddenly let out a loud bang, followed by a light white smoke.

Denki and Kyoka instantly experienced temporary blindness along with afterimages wherever they looked. Their ears started ringing, and they started to stumble around from loss of balance.

"Denki!"

"Kyoka!"

They tried to shout to each other, but even when they were so close, they couldn't hear anything except for the incessant ringing.

What felt like hours was only a few seconds before the effects slowly started to wear off.

"Kyoka, are you okay?" Denki asked as he rubbed his eyes.

"Kyoka?"

No response.

"Kyoka, don't play around."

"5 minutes left!" All Might's voice boomed through the building.

"Kyoka!" Still no response.

"Please calm down, Denki. We wouldn't want anything bad to happen now, would we?"

When Denki turned around to see where the voice was coming from, he saw Eleanor, who had Kyoka in a chokehold in front of her. Kyoka tried to struggle, but she couldn't do anything. Her earjacks were restrained by a wire. And her mouth had a piece of tape over it.

"Eleanor! Let her go!" Denki shouted, ready to send a blast of electricity.

Eleanor moved Kyoka directly in front of Denki. "Woah, there, Denki, you wouldn't anything to happen to her, would you? And such typical hero talk. That won't work here."

"How about this, Denki. If you surrender, I'll let her go. A very simple proposition."

"That won't happen."

"Are you sure about that?" Eleanor reached behind her and pulled out a handgun, and held it to Kyoka's head.

Kyoka's eyes widened as she felt the barrel on the temple of her head. She shivered a little, but with the knowledge of this being a trial, it didn't scare her as much.

"That's fake!"

Eleanor pulled the gun away from Kyoka's head and aimed it at a stone pillar.

BANG

The bullet chipped the stone pillar as small chunks fell to the floor and a small gray cloud disappeared into the wind.

Eleanor put the gun to Kyoka's head.

"Still think it's fake?" Eleanor asked with a smirk as she looked at Denki. She could feel Kyoka trembling in her arms as she kept her in a chokehold. She could see the look of shock on Denki's face.

"You're serious?"

"I'm a villain. I don't follow rules. Just surrender, Denki. You already lost."

Kyoka started to struggle, shaking her head and trying to lift her feet. She tried speaking, but only mumbles came out. Denki didn't know what she was trying to do, but he knew she was trying to signal something.

Unfortunately, it was too late to catch on.

All of a sudden, a sound came from behind him, but before he could turn around, he was trapped in a net as he fell to the ground.

"Good one, Momo. Told you the plan would work," Eleanor said as Momo finally revealed herself.

Denki tried to use his electricity, but the net stopped it from spreading too far.

"That's a rubber net," Momo said as she tied the capture tape around Denki, using rubber gloves just in case he tried to do anything.

Eleanor herself also tied the capture tape around Kyoka.

"Villian team wins!" All Might's voice said through the building.

Momo and Eleanor released Denki and Kyoka from their restraints.

"That was evil, Eleanor."

"I was on the villain team, Kyoka, I simply did what I think a villain would do. Using someone as a body shield and putting a gun to their head seems kind of villainous to me, and it's also a typical villain move."

"I guess."

"Where was the bomb?" Denki asked.

"With a lot of help from Momo, we moved it to the first floor, Denki. In fact, when the trial started, we were still moving it. The drones here were only meant for noise so Kyoka couldn't use her quirk to find us and to distract you two into thinking we were on the top floor. In reality, we were following you two from the start. We kept track with a drone of mine. The plan went differently from what I intended, but the results are all that matter. I was going to have you two waste all the time by having to go back all the way down while dealing with traps and drones."

"Was the gun necessary?"

"It worked, didn't it? And relax, there was only one bullet in it and it was meant for one-time use."

"It was so scary."

"Relax. Let's go back."

/\\//\\//\

This is a bit weird. I'm being looked at…well, weird.. What did I do wrong? I did the trial in a way that was efficient and villainous.

"What? Is there something on my face?"

"That wasn't fair," Iida said to me.

"Who said it has to be fair? And do I have to explain that, since I'm on the villain team, shouldn't I act like one? Plus, I don't think villains follow the rules or care about looking 'honorable' or whatever."

"She raises a good point." What a nice girl Tsu is. And very honest. I like people like that. They tell it how it is.

"Young lady, your methods are those of a villain, but this was a trial; you have no need to act as you did. The purpose of the teams is to separate, not to take on the role." All Might said to me.

Okay, maybe I went a little bit overboard.

"Alright, that might've been too far." I looked at Denki and Kyoka. "I'm sorry, Denki, Kyoka, can you forgive me?" I bowed a little, which I think is the right way to do it.

"This is a learning environment. We're here to guide you to be a proper hero."

/\\//\\//\

So, everything else went as I remember it should. Now, I was back in my dorm, relaxing. I was on a coach watching a movie on the TV when someone entered. It was Nezu. I wonder what he wants this time. He entered and sat next to me.

"I heard about your performance in All Might's class."

"I already apologized for the gun thing, Nezu. And some of my classmates understood it, even if they said they didn't agree with my method. Please don't tell me I'm getting in trouble over this. The gun is one-time use. No one can pick up and use it after I shot it. I had Momo make it like that, even though it took a bit of convincing. Oh, and please make sure she doens't get in trouble. The entire plan was my idea.

"You're not in trouble, and neither is Momo."

"So, what are you here for?"

"I'm here to watch a movie. Did you put something good on?"

A movie? What?

"Yeah, it's an oldie, but it's good."

"We'll see."

Huh? What? What is he getting at here? Doesn't he have work to do? There's no way he has time to watch a movie.

Whatever, as long as I'm not in trouble.
