[41:Major Mango]
Well, we all returned to school. At least the attack happened on the last day of the camp, so that was the silver lining. And no one was hurt. Well, except for Aizawa and the Cats to a degree, but that's kind of expected when they're supposed to be protecting students. Anyway, Magne was arrested and put back in prison. She had extra charges put on her. She had a crazy number of attempted murder charges and a few actual murders. That's a life sentence minimum without any chance of parole or bail, or whatever it is here in Japan. Or at least it better be. I don't think Japan is the kind of country to release dangerous criminals because of "systemic problems," or any of that nonsense and idiocy, right?
Anyway, Magne got arrested, and the police interviewed all of us. Especially me, like oh my gods, it was so annoying. So many questions about how I killed the nomus. About how I felt. What my mental state was like. I was kept in an interrogation room for hours and hours. Honestly, the interrogation room did more to my mentality than what I actually did in the forest. I was going to lose my mind, but then Nezu showed up, and I went free. So, shoutout to Nezu.
But now I have to rescind that shoutout, because I am currently in Nezu's office, again, undergoing another interrogation. Okay, it wasn't really an interrogation, but it felt like one.
"Eleanor, this isn't like the attack in the USJ," Nezu told me. Yup, it was about the forest and the training camp. Should be obvious.
"Really? I can name some big similarities. We were attacked by villains and nomus in a place that was supposed to be safe, and during a time when we were all there. Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, and three times is a pattern. So, yeah, this is the same as the attack at the USJ."
"Eleanor, you left a gruesome scene."
"Yeah, I know, Nezu, but what did you expect? You know how my quirk is and the violent nature of it. And do you really think non-lethal methods would work on the nomus? Come on, you think a flashbang or something would do anything? It'd probably just make them angrier and cause more damage."
"Eleanor, it's going to be hard to keep defending you if you do more things like this."
"What? Protecting and saving my classmates?"
"No. Truly, we are grateful for that, but the concern is how it looks. The graphic nature of the bodies left caused quite the scene."
I sighed. Of course, that's all the news focuses on. Look at how bad it looks! Yeah, it looks bad, but that doesn't mean it is bad. "Why does that matter at all? I saved people, and they don't focus on that? What, am I expected to save people while looking pretty? Lives were at risk and this is all people care about? How it looks? Of course, it won't look pretty! We were literally fighting for our lives!"
"Eleanor, we were able to contain it a bit. No one knows it was you who did it, since we kept it mostly hidden, but they know the people who were there, so we can't do much about speculation based on that."
I took a deep breath. "Look, I got a bit heated, I'm sorry."
"I don't blame you. You helped to capture a villain, but it seems there wasn't much coordination. There were very few villains, and most of the attackers were like the nomu we saw during the USJ attack. There didn't seem to be much coordination at all. The nomus were holding the villains back, based on Magne's need to control them. Though the cause of the blue flames in the forest is still a bit of a mystery. Someone mentioned you were heading in that direction when the attack happened. Can you explain why, Eleanor?"
"Well, it was simple. It was blue fire, which means complete combustion. I had to go there to put it out before it spread like, well, wildfire. I went to the location to use my drones to put it out before I returned with everyone else." Yup. This is why I brought up the drones and monoammonium phosphates back then. It's such a good cover.
"Did you encounter or see any villains?"
.
.
.
"No, I did not."
"I see. It'll need to be investigated. A villain like that is dangerous if not accounted for."
"I wish you luck on that. And besides there are bigger problems. Like, how did they even know where we were? I can come up with a few ideas, which means you probably already have, and none of them really sound good." I can't tell if he's suspicious or not. Well, actually, I'm just overthinking it. It's a very standard question considering what happened. It felt a bit awkward at this moment, but as always, plausible deniability, a good alibi, and no evidence make for good circumstances to get away with a lot of things.
"You may leave, Eleanor."
"Just a quick question, Nezu. Will this affect summer vacation? I mean, can we leave the country?"
"That is pending review, Eleanor. We haven't reached a decision."
"Hmm….yeah, no, I'm still going to go on vacation. At the bare minimum for early July. For obvious reasons."
"That'll need permission."
"Nezu, with all due respect, I'm not going to miss out on 4th of July celebrations. Unless you're fine with me setting off enough fireworks at this school to turn night to day?"
"If we allowed an exemption to you, it wouldn't be fair to others."
"I'm an exchange student! Things are already different for me. Everyone will understand. And look, I'm going to America, do you really think they'd try anything over there considering what the quirk laws are like there?"
"That is true."
"And if anyone else wants to go with me, if what they've told me is anything to go by, they'll also be safe. After all, I'm a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and winner of the sports festival. I'm still famous, and do you really think America would let anyone happen to their 'golden girl?'"
"You raise good points. I'll take this into consideration."
"Thanks, Nezu. So, can I leave now?"
"Yes, you may leave. And, Eleanor, please watch yourself. Not everyone will be understanding of your actions, despite the results they may achieve."
"I'll keep that in mind, Nezu."
People really need to know the whole "the ends justify the means" thing. I finally got up from the chair and left Nezu's office. Overall, not bad. The most important thing in this situation is that I saved my vacation. Oh, and I guess Dabi being dead is another thing. Anyway, who cares about him? I also need to tell Momo to make me more of those Re-Ir alloy rods. Those were way too effective.
Weapons technology is a wonderful thing.
