Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Getting in Black Ops - RE1 Movie

Ghiin's eyes flew open as a blood-curdling scream pierced the air. He bolted upright, heart pounding, and took in his unfamiliar surroundings. Gone were the marble pillars and lavish furnishings of Mount Olympus. In their place loomed dense, shadowy foliage and the damp earthy scent of the jungle.

Another shriek sent a chill down his spine. He scrambled to his feet, pulses of adrenaline urging him to run, to fight. But something was wrong. He felt leaden, sluggish. He raised a trembling hand and willed his godly aura to manifest. Nothing happened.

"My powers," he whispered. They were there, but muted somehow. Concealed. He was exposed, vulnerable. Fear and confusion overwhelmed him. Where was he? How had he gotten here?

The underbrush rustled nearby. Ghiin whirled around, fists clenched. A hideous creature burst through the leaves, blood and viscera dripping from its gnashing teeth. Ghiin leapt backwards with a yell, barely avoiding the monster's grasp.

He took off running, his breath coming in panicked gasps. The creature pursued him, its snarls growing closer no matter how hard Ghiin pushed himself. Thorns and branches tore at his skin and clothes. Still he ran, his mortality never more apparent.

Up ahead, the trees parted to reveal a towering gothic mansion blanketed in fog. Ghiin raced for the front door, the monster's fetid breath hot on his neck. He slammed the heavy door shut behind him and sank to the floor, heart hammering against his ribs. He was alive, for now. But he was trapped, and more vulnerable than ever before.

Ghiin's chest heaved as he tried to slow his frantic breathing. The grand foyer was dimly lit by flickering gas lamps, shadows dancing across dusty furniture covered in white sheets. His senses strained for any sign of movement, but the mansion appeared abandoned.

He rose cautiously to his feet, wincing at the scratches that marred his arms and face. His clothes were ripped and stained with dirt and blood. Ghiin took a tentative step forward, then jumped as a hidden speaker crackled to life.

"Welcome, newcomer," said a smooth male voice. "I am your guide to the game. You have many questions, I'm sure, but time is of the essence. This will all be explained soon."

Ghiin opened his mouth to speak, but the voice continued.

"Right now, your priority is to reach the briefing room. Head upstairs and follow the lights. Your squad is waiting."

Squad? Game? Ghiin's mind reeled, but he knew he had no choice but to follow the instructions. He climbed the winding staircase, illuminated by more flickering gas lamps. Dread gnawed at his insides. What deadly situation had he found himself in?

At the top was a long hallway lined with doors. One was outlined in an eerie glow. Ghiin approached it warily and turned the knob.

Inside was a group of ragtag individuals who eyed him with suspicion and fear. Before Ghiin could speak, a tall man with close-cropped hair stepped forward.

"I'm Lieutenant James," he said briskly. "We've all been gathered for the same fucked up purpose. Now line up so we can get this nightmare over with."

Ghiin took his place in line beside the other wary individuals, sizing them up as James paced before them.

"Our mission is to escort a woman named Alice to the Hive and back," the lieutenant said. "Those are our orders from command. I don't know this Alice or what the hell this Hive is, but I know we'll be facing dangers unlike anything we've seen before."

He paused, jaw tight. "Stick together, watch each other's backs, and we might just survive this godforsaken game."

With that, James turned on his heel and marched out of the room. The ragtag group exchanged uneasy glances before following.

Ghiin stayed towards the back of the group as they made their way out of the mansion and into the surrounding jungle. The humid air clung to him like a damp towel and exotic bird calls echoed through the trees. It was disorienting, dreamlike. Or nightmarish.

They had just reached a small clearing when a woman stumbled out of the underbrush up ahead. Ghiin tensed, ready to defend himself, but she didn't seem to notice them.

Her clothes were tattered and she had numerous scratches along her arms and legs. But what drew Ghiin's gaze was her face—strikingly beautiful, but with a hollowness in her eyes that spoke of trauma and fear.

"Alice," James said in surprise. "You're early."

The woman turned sharply, swaying a little on her feet. "Who are you?" she rasped. "Where am I?"

"She has amnesia," one of the squad members murmured.

James shot him a glare before turning back to Alice with a gentler look. "We're here to help you. We'll keep you safe."

Alice shook her head slowly. "No one is safe here."

A chill went down Ghiin's spine at her ominous words. What had this poor woman endured? And what fresh horrors awaited them all in the depths of this twisted game?

James guided Alice to sit on a fallen log while the rest of the group gathered around. She still seemed disoriented, her gaze darting nervously among the shadowy trees.

"Alice, we need you to try and remember," James said urgently. "What can you tell us about the Red Queen?"

Alice's brow furrowed. "Red Queen..." she murmured. Slowly, her eyes refocused, clarity returning to her expression. "She controls everything here. This whole place."

She swept her arm around, indicating the complex built into the surrounding cliff face. "It's her hive. Her experiment."

"To do what?" Ghiin asked.

Alice met his gaze. "To wipe out humanity. She's manufacturing the ultimate bio-weapon, something to make the entire human race extinct."

Shocked murmurs rippled through the group.

"My god," James breathed. "We have to shut her down."

Alice shook her head gravely. "It won't be easy. She'll fight to the death to protect her hive."

Ghiin felt a chill, knowing their mission just became much more dangerous. But it was also now much more critical. Failure meant the end of everything.

"We move forward as planned," James said firmly. "We'll find a way, for all our sakes."

The group solemnly gathered their gear. Ghiin took a deep breath, bracing himself. The very future was at stake.

The squad moved silently through the shadowy corridors of the underground facility, the only sounds the echo of their footsteps and the hum of unseen machinery. Ghiin's senses were on high alert, straining to detect any sign of danger.

Up ahead, James signaled a halt, raising his fist. They had reached a large set of steel double doors. Cautiously, he pulled one open, sweeping his gun barrel through the gap.

"Clear," he whispered.

They filed into a massive warehouse, filled with crates and strange equipment. Far across the room, Ghiin spotted a rail line running into a pitch-black tunnel.

"There's our ride," James said, pointing. "Let's move."

They crossed the warehouse quickly, footsteps loud in the cavernous space. As they neared the tunnel, the beams of their flashlights fell upon a sleek bullet train parked on the tracks.

Ghiin tensed as he noticed a figure slumped in one of the cars, features obscured in shadow. He raised his weapon warily.

As they drew closer, the figure stirred, slowly lifting his head. Ghiin's eyes widened.

"It can't be..." he murmured.

The man peered at them groggily. It was Alice's fake husband from the life she thought she knew, before her memory was wiped. His presence here made no sense, but also raised deep unease in Ghiin about the true nature of this place.

James eyed the man suspiciously. "Who are you? Why are you here?"

The man shook his head in confusion. "I...I don't know. I don't know where here is. Or how I got here."

Alice stared at him in shock. Ghiin exchanged an uneasy look with James. They had no answers, only a growing sense of wrongness. But the mission remained. They had to press on.

James turned to Rain. "Get this train running. We're going to the Hive."

Rain nodded and headed towards the front of the train. After a few minutes tinkering with the controls, the engines rumbled to life.

The squad filed onto the train, taking positions throughout the cars. James and Alice sat up front with Rain, going over schematics of the Hive facility.

Ghiin chose an empty compartment near the back. As he settled into a seat by the window, trepidation crept through him. He peered out at the dark tunnel swallowing up the train as they accelerated.

They were committed now, hurtling towards the depths of the Hive and its deadly secrets. He thought back to the games he had played, the Resident Evil films he had seen. None of them could have prepared him for this.

Ghiin glanced around at his squadmates, hardened soldiers focused on their task. But he sensed the same disquiet in their tight expressions, their watchful eyes.

The stakes were far greater than any of them could have imagined. Failure here might mean more than death. Their souls could be lost forever in this digital hell.

Ghiin steeled himself and tightened his grip on his rifle. Whatever they faced ahead, he had to be ready. For his sake, and the sake of his new comrades.

The train sped deeper and deeper into the hive's subterranean depths. Ghiin watched the dark tunnel walls race past, broken only by the occasional service light blinking ominously.

He glanced around at his squadmates. Some were checking weapons or gear, while others stared silently ahead, lost in thought. The hissing grind of the train wheels and rumble of the engine were the only sounds.

After some time, the train began to slow. Ghiin peered out the window and saw they were pulling into a platform area. The walls and floor here were clinical white, brightly lit with fluorescent lights.

"This is it," James called out as he moved to the doors. "Weapons ready. We don't know what's waiting for us out there."

The squad jumped into action, chambering rounds and drawing weapons. Ghiin's heart pounded as he got to his feet. This was the moment they had been hurtling towards, and there was no turning back now.

With a hiss, the train doors slid open. James leapt out, sweeping his gun across the empty platform. One by one, the squad filed out behind him, fanning out in tactical formation.

The sterile white walls and fluorescent lights gave no hint of the horrors that undoubtedly lay ahead. Ghiin strained his senses, but could detect nothing beyond their harsh breaths and the echo of their footsteps.

Where was the Red Queen? Her deadly creations and traps? The silence and stillness only amplified the dread creeping through him.

They had arrived, but their true test still lay ahead. As the doors hissed closed behind them, Ghiin knew there would be no going back now. They would succeed in their mission, or die trying, in the depths of the hive.
